SPEAKER_03

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of In the Creek with Danny and Kevin, a coast-to-coaster session of B2 Mental Crocks. I'm your co-host, Kevin Sentrum, and with me as always is the Minnesota mangler, Danny Moran.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, man. Hey, Danny. Some of those names in Minnesota, I don't know, man. I can't name them things. It's all those Indian names. They're hard to pronounce.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny. Joe Vedovnik, our friend, sent me a message a while back when we had finished a coaching carousel.

SPEAKER_01

Hold on. The Minnesota Mangler, huh? That's pretty witty right there, Mr. Stenstrom.

SPEAKER_03

That was mine. Joe's the one that came up with the next part in this here. So you you kind of messed it up, which I will tell you, it is easy to do with some of these names. I have a few disclaimers. One, I listened to Down the Alley podcast, which is on Minnesota High School across, so I know some of these names. Two, my wife's cousins live in Minnesota. Okay. Grew up in Minnesota. So some of these names I know from that. So I waited a few months to bring this out of the Minnesota Mangler because although a lot of conferences, and you mentioned this with Prior Lake, I think last week or the week before. Yeah, last week. One of them that is recruited heavily in D2. Well, the GLVC, which we're going to talk about tonight, recruits very heavily other conferences. So I'm like, GLVC, Minnesota Mangler, they kind of they kind of fit. You know what I'm saying? They go together.

SPEAKER_01

I wonder how many kids from Prior Lake, Minnesota are in this conference. So the Minnesota City, so Vedovnik came up with the Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

Joe Vedovnik came up with the Minnesota City or Minnesota High School name game. And then we have six for you tonight. I don't know how this is going to translate through a podcast. We're going to try our hardest. I'll spell them out. We've got six different names. I want you to try them.

SPEAKER_01

This is fun.

SPEAKER_03

And then I will tell you what they really are.

SPEAKER_01

We're going to try to do this, uh. All right.

SPEAKER_03

We're going to do it. All right. Number one is spelled S-H-A-K-O-P-E-E.

SPEAKER_01

Can you use that in a sentence? No. I can't, because then you get it. S-H-A-K-O-P-E. Shakopi? Shakopi. It's Shakopee. Shakopee, Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

O for one.

SPEAKER_01

I don't have my buzzer with me tonight.

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't either. Here's the second one. E-D I N A.

SPEAKER_01

Edina, Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

That's close.

SPEAKER_01

E Dina.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, number three. W-A-Y-Z-A-T-A.

SPEAKER_01

W-A-Y-Z-A-T-A. Y Zada.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, E. Y-Z-A. You were close on that one, though. Z?

SPEAKER_01

Z is an E. That's an E sound.

SPEAKER_03

It's Y-Z.

SPEAKER_01

It's that Midwest accent.

SPEAKER_03

The way I like it, you actually got the Y versus the Way.

SPEAKER_01

Y Z. It's spelled Zada. You said Z-A-T-A.

SPEAKER_03

I'm telling you, Danny, these are not easy.

SPEAKER_01

I gotta get partial credit.

SPEAKER_03

It rolls off the tongue if you live in Minnesota.

SPEAKER_01

If you're from New York, it doesn't. Wazetta, Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

Number four. This is the one I'm the one you butchered before. M-A-H T-O-M-E-D I.

SPEAKER_01

M-A-H Ma T O To M-E-D-I. Medi. Matamedi. Matamidi. Matamidai. Matamidi Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

That's right. Okay, number five. We got two left. O W A T O N N A.

SPEAKER_01

O W A T O N N A. Awatana.

SPEAKER_03

Ding ding ding. I'll give you that one. Owatana. I will give you that one.

SPEAKER_01

Owatana.

SPEAKER_03

I'll give you that one. Okay, last one. Six.

SPEAKER_01

C-L-O-Q-U-E-T. Well, Q-U-E-T is K. So cloak K. Ding ding ding. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I'll give you that one too. Not bad for a Long Islander.

SPEAKER_01

I got one out of six. I got a partial for Wazata. So it's Matamida.

SPEAKER_03

I thought you said Owatana. You said Owatana, right?

SPEAKER_01

So it's Shakapi. Shakapi. Shakapi. Shakapi.

SPEAKER_02

Edina. Wizetta.

SPEAKER_01

Wizetta. Matamidae. Matamida. Matamidae. That's a weird one.

SPEAKER_02

Oatana. Cloquet.

SPEAKER_01

Owatana. Cloquet. And priorite. And there is Joe Lake.

SPEAKER_03

Minnesota City name game in the crease.

SPEAKER_01

Joe Vitovnik. He's the man coming up with this stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Minnesota name game. I'm like, I'll try it. And you were. I have to give you a lot of credit there, Mr. Moran. That's not easy. You came in cold. You came in cold trying to warm up.

SPEAKER_01

You got me on that one. It was a cold day at work, too. It was I'm not warmed up at all.

SPEAKER_03

I

GLVC Preview

SPEAKER_03

bet. But today, Danny, we are talking about the GLVC. And this conference, I think, Danny.

SPEAKER_01

Got that nice little shuffle beat. Yeah, the GLBC cow.

SPEAKER_03

This is a conference where they really beat each other up in conference play. As a matter of fact, there has been a different team who has won each of the last five conference tournaments, and that's thanks that little fun fact. I have to give thanks to Coach Stocks for providing that team. But listen to this. In the GLVC, Meryville winning twon in 2025, Lewis in 2024, Rockhurst in 23, Lindenwood in 2022, and U Indy in 2021. That's how much parity is in this conference.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Good conference. Top to bottom, if you ask me. Yeah. Tough, tough conference. And a lot of these teams are ranked, Cov.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and you'll hear some I've got some quotes from some of the coaches later on as we go to their team and what they talk about. And I'll tell you what, you look at this, even when doing this homework, it it becomes a crapshoot at the top, Danny. Those top four teams. Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I don't know. They're they're all pretty even. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like I agree with you on that part. They're all very good teams. They're all like nationally ranked and and just you know, they they this this is a really good conference, Co.

SPEAKER_03

It's very good. So do you want to start off with the champs from last year?

SPEAKER_01

Sure.

SPEAKER_03

Meryville Saints?

SPEAKER_01

The Saints. Coach Stark, Scott Stark, the D2 Coach of the Year in 2025.

SPEAKER_03

Right, with his D2 assistant of the year, M Mathune.

SPEAKER_01

Located in town and country, Missouri.

SPEAKER_03

Right there in St. Louis.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, suburb of St. Louis. A little over 6,000 undergraduates there. They were 14-5 last year, four and one in conference, ranked number 13, and made it to the second round of the NCAA's, Cav.

SPEAKER_03

They made it all the way to the semis.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

They lost to Tampa.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

They went on runs, Danny. They had a they lost to LR in their first game in overtime. Then they went on a four-game win streak before losing to Tampa. And then St. Leo. So they lost two in a row. And then they went on a six-game win streak. They lost before losing to UND in the final game of the regular season. They bounce back. They win the GLVC championship and they continue that run by beating Anderson and Limestone in overtime before falling to Tampa.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they beat they beat Anderson, who was number seven in the country. Uh beat them 16 to 10, and they beat number four Limestone and sent them home for the last time, Kev. Yeah. So Meryville's got something special. They were the last team to play limestone and they beat them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and that was a great game. That was a really, really good game. And you know what?

SPEAKER_01

They played Tampa pretty good, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

12-8 was the final, you know. But you know, Tampa's pretty strong. We all know that. But Maryville was pretty good in that game. They did not suck. They gave Tampa a little bit of a hard time, especially in the first half. Second half, Tampa kind of took a little control. You never thought that Tampa was going to lose that game. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

You're right. But if you think about, we usually see now we saw Meryville in the tournament, NCAA tournament the year before in 24, along with Lewis. I didn't think they made it out of the first round. Maybe. But to go on that kind of run in 2025 and beat the teams they did in the tournament, that is just really, really strong for their program.

SPEAKER_01

They're a really good team. And like last year, what I liked about them, I always liked Maryville's offense. I always thought that they they moved the ball well. A lot of guys can score. It's not just one or two guys with the Saints. It's a multitude of players and a multitude of scorers. They got guys on the bench. They deep their really good squad. But last year, their defense was pretty damn good. They only gave up like nine goals a game. They were good on defense.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they were very good. They were just well rounded. Not any gaps in in their play whatsoever. Now this year, they have some key losses. They lose Dylan Radke, their goalkeeper.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Jake Greeby, their MIDI, a number two scorer, 29 goals, 18 assists, and number four, Clayton Sorrett. Along with short stick D mini Dagan Carlson.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Four four starters that have been there for a while. Yeah. But I don't think it's going to be a problem. I don't think it's going to be a problem whatsoever.

SPEAKER_03

I agree with you. At first, when I saw that, I kind of try to go find losses first, and then you're looking at who they're returning.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Justin Simonson, Colin Tobias, Ben Mickett, Trent Simei. Just go down the list of scores. And it goes to exactly what you're saying, Danny. They have multiple scores. So if you had like one or two that were really, really good, which they did, Jake Greeby, Clayton Surrett, you got a bunch of guys after them. They're still there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And Kev, if you remembered last year before Greeby and Surrett kind of became the guy, you remember who the guy was from Maryville prior to that? And when he left, we were like, oh, that's a huge loss, Reed Arsay. Yeah. When they lost Reed when he graduated, we were like, oh man, he's gonna, that's a tough loss. And then you know what? The year before that, they had Zach Baker, who balled out was like an all-American from Maryville. So this is a team that knows how to recruit. They're deep, they're strong, they do a lot of good things well. Uh, like you said, Justin Simonson comes back, 40 goals, 43 assists, Captain.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, and he he's coming back number one straight.

SPEAKER_01

83 points, first team all GLVC. I mean, crazy.

SPEAKER_03

All American. Ben Mickett at midfield, all American. Jeez.

SPEAKER_01

First team all conference attack, uh, Colin Tobias, 27 goals, 18 assists, Trent Zemey, who silently plays really well. He might not be the cratest goal scorer, like the guy, give me the ball, give me the ball. But he's dangerous when he you don't leave him open. He's gonna bury you.

SPEAKER_03

And then the other thing is if you got him and Ben and Chris Anderson, guys like that at Newfield and Connor Caval, like look at that's the other thing that Meryville does really well. They move the ball really well.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they're a good team, man. Good well coached. They have Fogo, Shea Rayburn comes back. He was a 56% Kev second team all GLC, uh, All-American honorable mention last year. Defendant Cody Comier comes back, 27 ground balls, 11 cause turnovers. And their man, John Charlton, this kid is badass, man. 75 ground balls, 37 cause turnovers, defensive player of the year in the GLBC and a second team All-American. He's he will be anchoring the defense, and who to be better out there but John? And you know what? And they got defensor, uh, defenseman Tyler Yerstead coming back. You know where he's from?

SPEAKER_03

Where's he from?

SPEAKER_01

He's from an easy town in Minnesota. Egan. It's probably pronounced Agan or something.

SPEAKER_03

No, you got that one right. You're good.

SPEAKER_01

You're good on that one. Egan, Minnesota. Uh 37 ground balls and 16 clause turnovers. Kev, Maryville Saints, uh solid squad, top to bottom.

SPEAKER_03

Now look at also on face-off, Andrew Skifstad returns, and he was at 60%. So you got two, Shea Rayburn and Andrew coming back. The real hole, and I don't know if it is, is is Dylan Ratke. Yeah. He was at 57%. Now, coach says Evan Alfano, who's taking over from, have has spent the last two years under his wing. So sometimes that can actually help, right? You're not coming in as a freshman. You get to see, you get to get that tutelage from a guy like Dylan. We have to see what he can do if he can seamlessly come in and take over.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure he'll be just fine. I think Coach Stark does a great job up there, out there in talented country near St. Louis. Yeah. Um well coached. I always like their offense. Excellent ball movement, excellent IQ. I believe Kev that they will be one of the best teams in the country if they can fill that goalie spot.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, if Evan comes in and is right around that same he's above 50%, and what they're returning on D and what they've got on offense, they are going to be a tough out.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, they're gonna be tough. I think that, like I said, they'll be one of the better teams in the country if they can just fill that goalie spot.

SPEAKER_03

I love what Coach Stark sent to us, and I'll read it off because I thought it was really cool. He said, We graduated some important pieces from the 2025 group, the kind of guys who make coaching look easy. I love that sentence. However, our staff feels confident that a combination of internal growth and key transfers will keep our foundation strong. From the beginning, our goal has been to build this program with sustainability in mind rather than being a one-hit wonder. And we just talked about that, Danny. I just mentioned it. You look at you, yes, Breeders say Zach Baker, like you know, just the list goes on and on.

SPEAKER_01

They come right in. It's just not even like it's not even re-regrow. It's just like plant and go. Yeah, and plug and play.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They're good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that they are really they are gonna be fun to watch again this year.

SPEAKER_01

I like their uniforms that the black and the red kind of sharp, actually.

SPEAKER_03

I like I said, I don't see a drop-off from them at all. They're gonna be right up there uh mixing it up in the middle of the city.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they were ranked number 13 at the end of the year, so I think they'll be ranked higher than that, I think, this year in the beginning of the year. We'll see.

SPEAKER_03

I'll tell you, these these first four teams we're gonna talk about, I have a tough time picking like who's gonna be number one, number two, number from just in the GLVC. Now you add in the top 20. I I think all four of these will be in the top 20.

SPEAKER_01

Well, if you go by the past history of this, it's not gonna be Maryville who wins.

unknown

Right?

SPEAKER_01

It's gonna be somebody different this year, right? Yeah. Yeah. If you go by the history.

SPEAKER_03

How about we go to the Lewis Flyers?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the Flyers. Joe Peruzzi. Located? Where's him located, Kev? Romeoville, Illinois. Romeoville, Illinois. That's not far from Chicago.

SPEAKER_03

That's close. Yeah, that's a that's kind of like a suburb, I think. So they're not going to be able to do it.

SPEAKER_01

They were number 14 in the country last year, Kev, at the end of the season. 12-5 overall, 3-2 in conference. Signature wins. They beat Newberry 12-10, which was a big, big win for them, and they beat UNDE 9-5.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then you look at this too. They they lost to Meryville and they lost to Rockhurst in the regular season. Then they turn around five days later. This will tell you how close in competition this conference is. Five days later, after losing to Rockhurst, they beat them in the GLVC semis.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So Lewis Lewis had a little bit of an up and inconsistent, you know, won a game, then lost a game. Maybe they shouldn't have lost, you know, one of those. Remember, we were talking about it last year. Yeah. We were like, all right, what happened with Lewis? Maybe there was an injury to a couple of key players. We don't know. You know that, Kev? We don't we're not privy to that information unless we're like actually watching the game, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but if you look at it too, I mean, they played a tough schedule. You played teams like Newberry, Limestone, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

No. They put they put tough schedule.

SPEAKER_03

Westminster. I mean, they there's not Seaton Hill. I mean, you know, you you go from Seaton Hill, you're looking at their schedule last year, you go from Seton Hill to Merryville. To you, Wendy. I mean, like, there's all of these, they're all like that. Top 15 teams.

SPEAKER_01

Top 15 teams in the country. I mean, among the better teams in all of Division II. That's who's on their schedule. You know, Joe, Joe's not afraid. They don't step down. They're a very good physical team. Uh, they lose Fogo, Dom Torello, though. And he was Fogo of the Year last year for the GLVC Kev. He was at 62%.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Now they do have Dylan Kendrick returning. He's at 50%, he was at 57%. Obviously, Dom got the bulk of it. Yeah. Dylan also plays short stick D MIDI and goes back and forth, which Coach says, look, it he's very versatile and he's a threat to score. My concern is like if he is going to get a lot of D MIDI time as well as face-off, I don't see that.

SPEAKER_01

That's a lot of work. I see. I see him just, I don't know what they're going to do. Maybe they have brought in a face-off guy.

SPEAKER_03

Coach told us that he's going to take faceoffs at the X.

SPEAKER_01

So they'll probably have somebody else at short sticky. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm sure they'll have someone else, hopefully, at face-off. You right to give him a spell all the time, depending on what they want to do with him.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. They will. They will.

SPEAKER_03

They're goalie, Caden Donahue returns, and he did a really good job of stepping in after Rhea Rath left, you know, graduated. He was at 58%. Phenomenal.

SPEAKER_01

They got a bunch of guys coming back, Kev.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Malachi good, 50 goals, 24 assists, 74 points. Like boy, just balled out. Tacman, uh second team all GLVC last year. Attack Paul Ruskowski comes back, had 35 goals and 12 assists. Now, last year they had a pair of freshmen that contributed and played really, really well. They're going to be sophomores this year. Uh, Camden Rapis and Lance McCann, uh, respectively, 16 goals and 12 assists for Camden and uh 13 goals and six assists for Lance. So I think these freshmen come back as sophomores. I think they're gonna be much improved, much better.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. As a matter of fact, coach said Lance McCann at MIDI is gonna be joined by two limestone transfers, Carter Kaczynski and Josh Shelfi. Now, Josh.

SPEAKER_01

Wow, Carter Kaczynski's at Lewis.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And you know what I think about him.

SPEAKER_01

He's good, man.

SPEAKER_03

Josh's Shelfie or Shelf he was at Lewis in twenty twenty three, transferred to limestone for twenty twenty four, and now is back at Lewis. So he knows Lewis. Carter Kaczynski comes in, and with Lance McCann, who was only a freshman last year. You also add in Jackson Merendan, Liam Forsyth, and Jake Weinkoop. They've got that's two strong lines right there, MIDI lines.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they're gonna be tough, man. Lewis is gonna be tough. Caden Donnie, you said comes back. LSM Joe Janda comes back. He was really good last year, man. He was very good for them. 34 ground balls, 15 close turnovers. Just a guy that wreaks havoc out there on the field.

SPEAKER_03

But they also bring back, well, Logan Sushi comes back at LSM. 63 ground balls, 27 cause turnovers. Tyler Davis at D Pole along with Zach Odolino. So you look at uh Davis O'Dolino and Janda, probably at that close D with Logan Sushi as the main guy at LSM.

SPEAKER_01

Now, and you know where defenseman Tyler Davis is from? Where? Dinah! He's from Adinah, Minnesota, Kev. Ding ding. Where's the bell? We need the bell. We need the bell. There we go. The bell.

SPEAKER_03

You deserve applause too for that one. Look at you learn. Look at you.

SPEAKER_01

Tyler had 48 ground balls in 25 cross turnovers last year. Kev, the Lewis Flyers averaged 46 shots per game. Their man up was at 51%. They clear at 90%. Led the conference in penalty kills percentage at 75%. Led the conference in goals per game. Conference, 14%.

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

And led the conference in points per game at 23. This is a very strong GLVC squad, deep in talent and depth. And Lewis plays a physical brand of lacrosse. They are among the country's best at causing turnovers and scooping up ground balls. They are a menace on defense. They're a team that doesn't back down from anyone. We'll play the limestones, we'll play the Tampas, we'll play the big boys. They look to outphysical opponents, which I kind of like being a Long Island guy. I like that physical brand of defense. Like I said, they look to physical, outphysical opponents, and they're good at it. My only question for them is at face-off, what kind of because you know Torello was good at 62%. I mean the both of them are good, but Torello is really good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, and I I agree with you because if they're using Kendrick both at face-off and short stick D MIDI, I mean, just the face-off, if you're doing that, it's not, it's first of all, it's not face-off get off anymore, really. Then that's wears and tears on your body. So if he's playing at short stick D midi, if he doesn't, if they don't have another face-off guy to give him a little break, I don't see him at short stick D Middy that much. Now, luckily, Coach says that they're the deepest they've ever been at D mid with Michael Turbovich, Dylan, Anthony Matteo, who he says is a freak athlete. He missed 24 with an injury, so he'll be a huge addition back from and Mark Crowley, who returns for his fifth year after an ACL injury. So if those two guys stay healthy, along with Turbovich, I mean, and Dylan, there's four guys that are going to be in there in the mix for short stick. So there isn't much of it. I think they're poised to be right there again this year. There's just like Meryville, really no drop-off. They've got a really good mix returning.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Lewis is good. They got a lot, a lot going on there.

SPEAKER_03

And here's what Coach Peruzzi said. And I I always I always quote Coach Peruzzi every year we do these previews because he he encapsulates, I think, the conference better than we do. So I might as well just let him talk for us, right? Coach Peruzzi said GLVC is always a fun league because there aren't a lot of teams, but all teams are physical, well coached, and tough environments to play in. They all make you earn everything. I think this league is an any given day type of league. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day, and that is a testament to the great coaches and culture we have across this league. The parody this year will be better than ever. The league has the potential to be a two-bid league year in and year out at a minimum.

SPEAKER_01

He's right. I agree with him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I would say we'd be done here for the whole preview, but we got other teams to go over.

SPEAKER_01

Just think. A couple of years ago they had Lyndon Wood. They were a strong, they're a strong conference. You know, they get these Midwestern kids, some East Coast kids to come out there, but these coaches are doing a really good job in the GLVC of finding those diamonds in the rough, you know, those kids that slip through the cracks somehow. And and they're good lacrosse players.

SPEAKER_03

There's a lot you talk about the Minnesota hotbed. I mean, there are a lot of high school players that are playing all divisions, including Division I. And so when they go and get those guys, because look at GLVC, like you said, great teams, great lacrosse, and they don't have to go as far as if you're going to play some, go to some D1 schools. You're not as far away from home.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, in the years past before we had the AQs, that conference alone had enough RPI in there to help them along, you know what I mean? And then they would come down, they would play a couple of Southern, you know, SAC teams or a couple of Florida Southern uh Sunshine State conference teams and and boost their RPI. They don't really have to do that as much anymore. I mean, they're still going to play big boys, but they don't have to do that. They just got to worry about conference because that conference is strong. And you know what? Coach Peruzzi has a real you know strong argument there for being a two-bid team, uh two-bid conference.

SPEAKER_03

Yo, I agree. And so we didn't talk about out of conference for for Lewis or Maryville. Lewis is out of conference this season. You talk about it going south. St. Leo, Rollins, Lynn, and then Quincy, which is an in-conference foe, but they're gonna play them twice. One of them's gonna be out of conference. So look at those three St. Leo, Rollins, Lynn. That's a that's a strong out of conference. St. Leo's gonna be good this year, too. Yeah, they are. They are. Okay, let's move on to the Greyhounds of UIndy.

SPEAKER_01

The U Indie Greyhound. Located Indianapolis, Indiana, Kev. Greg Stocks at the helm. Seven and eight last year, their worst year as a program since they came in in 2016.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I was gonna say. I it's their first losing season that I seven.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, seven and eight overall, three and two. They were uh eleven and six last year, they were twelve and four in twenty-three, they were fourteen and four in twenty-two, uh ten and three in twenty-one, twenty was COVID year, sixteen and three they were in twenty nineteen, they were ten and five in two thousand eighteen, they were seven and six in two tented and eight and six.

SPEAKER_03

So And this is the last year was the first time they did not make it into the NCAA tournament since twenty eighteen.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's it wasn't their best season at all. They they struggled in here and there.

SPEAKER_03

Now, 41 of the 50 players on the roster were either of freshman or sophomore eligibility last year. So this year now is going to be different. Because all those players that were really young, and they're still gonna be fairly young, they've got a lot more experience. Yeah, yeah. If you look at it, they beat Meryville, the the eventual winner of the conference tournament in the last last game of the season, but then they lost him five days later, kind of like the Rockhurst Lewis game.

SPEAKER_01

I counted 51 on their roster, but they lose two biggies, Tristan Schaefer and Nathan Lamb. And that was like 58% of their offense last year, those two guys.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but they returned seven out of uh their ten all-conference players and three out of four honorable mention all-Americans. They've got some other players that are they they do lose. Tristan look at Tristan Schaefer and Nathan Lamb were number one and number two in scoring. But they bring back their attack, their other attack line. They got a transfer from NJIT, Amadeo Miller, Tannerham, he started last five, started the last five games last year, and Mason Rockley. They also have freshman attackmen Trent Taylor and Matt Pereira, who scored 19 goals as a as a midi last year and coming over to the attack side. MIDI at midfield, which I feel Danny, has always been their core. Midfield play has always been you Indy's core. They return their entire group. And they add in uh NJIT transfer Mike Rettbert. So they've got Nick Luttweiler, Keegan Lachlan, Connor Magan, Ryan Carver, and then they've got a bunch of other potential contributors at midfield, coach says.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know. I think it's time, I think they're circling the wagons. I think they still have to get some some pieces in there. I don't know if those guys are gonna get it done. They're still young, Kev. They're still young. I mean, they got goalie AJ Prechuck coming back. He was first team all conference. So that's huge.

SPEAKER_03

That's huge.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, you know, to have him coming back, you know, anchoring that defense.

SPEAKER_03

Um base off specialist return, Jonah uh Kaler at 54%, and TJ Reddington at 52%. And they've got a lot of D returning.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but they were all freshmen and sophomores last year. They're very young, you know.

SPEAKER_03

But Tyler Bernaducci was uh short stick D mini, all American, Jason David. I I think they've I think and they're deep at LSM. Look at they've got Mitchell Carrick, 55 ground balls, 23 cause turnovers. Adam Wong, 44 ground balls, 21 cost turnovers, and they're and their third LSM is a transfer from Wingate, Caden Jason. Johnson, I'm sorry. So look at I and then you look at at D, I'll score 56 ground balls, 23 cause turnovers as a freshman. Braden Arnett started all 15 games and Sean Arendel. So you're right. They are still young. They're they're gonna be sophomores and juniors this year. I think they're gonna be dangerous, though, because they've got more experience. I think they're gonna be dangerous.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I don't know. I'm gonna have to see this. I just they just didn't put out a good product last year. They just didn't, you know, not the UND teams that we're used to seeing. Right. And, you know, again, young team last season. The Greyhounds had five consecutive losses in the middle of the season. That led to that sub-500, you know, season in pro first one in program history. Outside of Schaefer and Lamb, it was freshmen and sophomores that saw all the action with several freshmen starting. And they were super duper young. I love when freshmen play because it really gets them going, you know, and and and brings them up to the NCAA game. It does. But without that senior kind of leadership, you kind of need some of those guys that have been there four years, a little stronger, been through the ups and seen the downs and knows what it takes. These young guys, especially the freshmen, and they're like, whoa, what what what do we got to do to make this better? So I think they're gonna be circling the wagons a little bit here in U Indy. I think it's a wait and kind of see what they're gonna do. See their out of conference schedule?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. First game?

SPEAKER_03

Lenore Ryan, first game.

SPEAKER_01

And Lenore Ryan's gonna be stacked on offense. Yeah. So they're gonna they're gonna have their hands full.

SPEAKER_03

Northwood, Lake Erie, Newberry, Seton Hill, UAH, Lander, Walsh, and Davenport.

SPEAKER_01

Lander is gonna go. And so tough Seton Hill is gonna be among the top five teams in the country. Newberry's gonna be a top 10 team, or at least top 15, at least, until I finish what I'm our homework. And LR is gonna be holy mackerel, that's a I can't believe they're opening up with LR. So I want to see four, I think. I want to see what stock stocks does there. I want to see how they how they rebound, you know, because those first I mean, they could be two and two after those first four games.

SPEAKER_03

They could, but guess what? If if they play that kind of out of conference and then roll more into the GLVC, and now more experienced for some of those guys that have played last year and and the defense that is fairly strong, and their midfield, which is I go back to is their core, and they've got a lot of depth there. Yeah, they may not be great after going, you know, LR, Newberry, Seton Hill, and Lander, but guess what? They may be more ready when it comes to playing in the GLBC.

SPEAKER_01

They were seven and eight last year. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I see them above 500 this year.

SPEAKER_01

You you see them winning 10 games?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. I see them up, I don't know. I'd have to go through it a little bit more.

SPEAKER_01

I think I see them win. I see them being above 500, but I don't know how much above 500. Again, they're they're super young in some big spots. So we'll see. I'll look forward to it. I always like the Undies. I think they're a good team.

SPEAKER_03

I think they're gonna get 10 wins. I'm looking at their schedule right now. I I can see them getting 10 wins.

SPEAKER_01

They're gonna have a tough time in their own conference.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They're gonna have a tough time.

SPEAKER_03

I told you, I think it's gonna be a crapshoot in this conference. All right. Here's the team, Danny, that I think could do it this year in the GLVC. I know. Rockhurst.

SPEAKER_00

Aho! Ahoy. Aho!

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm so bad at that. Yeah, that the Hawks, Kevin Kelly. And you know where they're right from?

SPEAKER_03

Kansas City, Missouri.

SPEAKER_01

Kansas City. Kansas City, here I come. Right in the middle of the city, Kev, right in the heart. 3,000 undergrads, 8-6 last year, 4-1 in conference. They handled their business in conference last year. Signature win, 10-9 win over you, Indy, and an 8-7 win over Lewis. Two big wins for them. Uh what do you think of the of the uh Rockhurst Hawks? They were good last year, man. They really came out.

SPEAKER_03

They were good. Look at I thought they played tough throughout the season. They just could not really beat the ranked teams. Right. Okay. So they struggled a little bit in that. But I go back to you talk about them. You know, they they beat Lewis and they lose to Lewis. And I think part of the issue is just the parody and how tough it is in conference. I do think, though, that they bring back a shitload, Danny. Yeah, they do. They're starting off with their goalie, Brock O'Leela.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And you know what? Like they ran out a lot of freshmen and sophomores last year as well. But those guys threw up some big numbers, Kev. Those guys threw up some big numbers. Freshman last year, he's a sophomore this year. Attacked Jonah McConnell. 47 goals and 17 assists. As a freshman for Rockhurst against a really good league, you know. Like balled out.

SPEAKER_03

You have him, you had him as a he was a sophomore last year, right?

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I thought he was a freshman last year. Uh let me check that. I think he was a sophomore. He's a sophomore this year, I thought. Nolan Hartle comes back. You know where Jonah McConnell McDonald's from?

SPEAKER_03

McConnell, where is he from?

SPEAKER_01

He's from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Forest Hill Central High School.

SPEAKER_03

Jonah McConnell is a junior this year.

SPEAKER_01

He's a junior this year. Okay. See, they ran out of freshman and sophomore.

SPEAKER_03

Putting out, I mean, yeah, their starting attack returns. Linus Tord uh Junior now, Jonah McConnell a junior, and Tyler Smith, who's now a senior. That's their starting attack, and they're all coming back this year.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

They also had an Air Force Transfer sophomore Jack Hamilton. Wow. Uh, and they've got two other guys, Anthony Zarino and Charlie Shaver, who had 11 points, Danny, in the last three games last year. All gonna contribute just at the attack line.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Then at midfield, they returned their first line. Freshman of the year, Nolan Hartle, who was number two scorer.

SPEAKER_01

Second team all GBLC.

SPEAKER_03

He played the entire year with a broken hand, Danny.

SPEAKER_01

He was a freshman of the year last year. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

With a broken hand.

SPEAKER_01

Tough bastard, right?

SPEAKER_03

Senior Lars Yar Yarkowski is back two times captain. And junior Adam Hussaby. They're back as the starting line. And then they've got other unpacked middies, Austin Winship, who's a Rutgers transfer, and Ryan Rosendez. Wow.

SPEAKER_01

A couple of D1 transfers. All right. Look at Rockhurst. Look at them.

SPEAKER_03

And then you it just keeps going. The faceoff returns. Carson Bradshaw at 62%. Rocco Hicks at 64%. He was the transfer. We talked about him last year from Bowling Green football. He was a tight end there. And he's their jack of all trades kind of guy, right?

SPEAKER_01

All right, right, right.

SPEAKER_03

He can do more than face-off. He was going to be their army their Swiss Army knife. And he's proven that. And he started off in face-off for him.

SPEAKER_01

Crazy. They ran out two phogos, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Broccolila, the 6'2 season vet between the pipes, all GLVC. Short stick D. Middle, Avery Moody returns. 56 ground balls, second team all GLVC. And like you mentioned, uh Lar Zhakowski. 48 shots per game, Kev. 60% were on goal. That's amazing. That's amazing.

SPEAKER_03

They were a high volume shooting team.

SPEAKER_01

Face off at 59%, clear at 92%, but they were 15 for 42, only 35% on man up. They could improve on that a little bit. They average about 12 goals a game, but here's the problem when you're young. Taking care of the rock, as our boy Devin Spilker always talks about taking care of the rock. Every time we talk about taking care of the rock, gotta talk about Devin Spilker because it's such a big part of the game, and he talks about it all the time. And uh they turned the ball over more than their opponents last year. I think that was a problem for them. They gave up possessions. Dude, 59 on the roster, 16 freshmen. Last year, with a young team, Kev, they improved greatly. Their losses were one-goal games against ranked teams. They lost to St. Leo 13-12. They lost to Maryville 14-13 in overtime. They beat number 14 Lewis in GLVC play, only to lose to them by one in the semis. Uh, the squad returns practically everyone from last season. A squad that, with those couple of one-goal games, could have easily been 11-3, Kev.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and coach let us know that you know at LSM they've got number one and number two returning. Connor Faulkner, he moves from close D because he's a ground ball magnet, and Braden Porter will back him up. And then at close D, they lose Matt Kahlberg, but Daniel Brashier is going to anchor that defense, and they've got this is probably it in close D, he says there's several guys working to earn starting spots, including some freshmen. So I think that is the piece of the puzzle in front of Brock O'Lealo that needs to be figured out. But they bring back so many weapons on defense and offense that I think what you just said about those one goal games, they're gonna win those this year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. Or, you know, they're gonna be super duper competitive this year, Kev. I bet you I bet you this is Rockhurst's best year. I I could see them winning 10 games this year. Do you see their out of conference schedule?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, their out of conference is. William Jewell, which is in conference by Adam State.

SPEAKER_01

Win.

SPEAKER_03

Colorado Mesa.

SPEAKER_01

They got a chance to beat. They got a chance to win.

SPEAKER_03

That'll be a great game. Quincy.

SPEAKER_01

They host Quincy. Win.

SPEAKER_03

Tampa.

SPEAKER_01

I bet you they give Tampa a game. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Florida Southern.

SPEAKER_01

Westminster. I bet you they beef. West Southern.

SPEAKER_03

Westminster will be another good game. I'd give the nod to Rockers right now. But you told I told you how much I like Westminster this year. So who knows? Davenport and Northwood.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they play Westminster in Kansas City. So if that has anything to do.

SPEAKER_03

So they're going to get like six, seven wins probably out of that out of code.

SPEAKER_01

And they open GLVC play with against at UND, actually. I don't know, man. Like the Hawks this year. I think they're going to be tough.

SPEAKER_03

I like them. I really like them.

SPEAKER_01

I think they're going to be tough.

SPEAKER_03

You look at Meryville. You look at Lewis. You look at Rockhurst. I don't see any gaps. And that's why it's going to be a crapshoot. Even if you even I think from a deaf perspective on who what they're bringing back from Undy, except that U Indy was just a little bit younger. It's still a little bit younger than the other team.

SPEAKER_01

You know, they were young, and so was Rockhurst, was young, but Rockhurst, those young guys threw up big numbers. Whereas the U Indy guys, 16 goals, 8 assists. These guys are throwing up, you know, 47 goals. You know what I mean? Like they're throwing up goals, man.

SPEAKER_03

So I like this team. I like the way this team is constructed. I think they are going to not only be dangerous, but I think I just think they're going to be you have their uh do you have their schedule from last year up?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, hang on a second. Who did they lose to? Because I thought I remember them playing Westminster. I can't remember.

SPEAKER_03

They lost to you said it. Lost to Maryville in overtime. They lost to Tampa. They lost to St. Leo. They lost to CMU 18-8 last year. They lost to Maryville again. They lost to Maryville twice. And that's it. And then they lost to Lewis in 10-11 by one one goal in the GLVC tournament.

SPEAKER_01

And did they beat Westminster last year?

SPEAKER_03

They did not play Westminster last year.

SPEAKER_01

They did not play. I'm trying to remember which game I saw Rockers play. Forget. I forget that.

SPEAKER_03

I can tell you, I probably watched them especially. I watched them against Meryville both times. I watched them against Lewis both times. I can guarantee that. Because those are good games to watch.

SPEAKER_01

I like the Hawks. I think Coach Kelly has really gotten all the ingredients up there in the bowl. He's giving it a good mix, and the cake is coming out, man. It's cooking.

unknown

It's cooking.

SPEAKER_03

I was talking about this with Coach Mariana. Coach Kelly, two things I love about him on Instagram. Number one is he has girls playing lacrosse, and he is very proud of what's going on. The girl dad? He's a girl dad? Yeah. Okay. Number two. His music choices bring us back to our heyday all the time, Danny. And I know Coach Kelly's younger than both of us.

SPEAKER_01

He's an old soul, then. He is. He is. What kind of music does he listen to?

SPEAKER_03

Like all kind of that rock and roll from the 70s and the 80s that come out, you know.

SPEAKER_01

The old classic rock, the old Aerosmith, and that kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah. All right. I gotcha. All right. So I like the Hawks. I think they're going to be tough. Man, this GLBC, they look good this year, huh?

SPEAKER_03

They do. They do. Okay, let's move on to the Quincy Hawks, another Hawk.

SPEAKER_01

Not doing it. I'm not doing it. Four and seven last year. Jake Acevedo, uh one and four in conference. Uh only 28 on the roster in 2025, Kev. Team struggled. He says struggled last year a little bit.

SPEAKER_03

He says they're going to be right around. Yeah, and they're going to be around 30 this year. Look at they had a little drop-off, obviously, in 2024 from overall wins. It was this is the second year for Coach Assavita. You remember Coach Ruppel left right, right at the right in the middle of fallball, practically, right? And so there was a little, and then Coach Assavito was hired in. So he had to take some time to get settled in, right? And it's not playing catch up.

SPEAKER_01

Playing catch up.

SPEAKER_03

And so now he didn't even get really probably a chance to recruit this year's class that much that came in. So he's got some work ahead of him. I like their out of conference this year, his out of conference, Chestnut Hill, Holy Family, Lynn at Lewis, Northwest Nazarene, Northwood, Rockers, and William Jewell, and UAH. I think that is a good mix for them.

SPEAKER_01

It's perfect for them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

This is a team that, you know, last year, again, a lot of young guys. They only averaged nine goals per game, Kev. Their power play was at like 21%. But they turn the ball over so much, you know.

SPEAKER_03

And they're in the box a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they they only average, they had 20 turnovers per game. Their face-off was struggle. They 20%. They clear at 81%. Just, you know, just another young team. But they had some players last year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now they're young this year. Again, they only have three seniors, so they're still going to be young, but they return their top four scores. Hakon Steen? Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Junior attack out of Martinsville, Saskatchewan. There you go. And then they got Mason Lama. He's the junior attack out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. So they got a couple of Canadians up there. He had 27 goals and three assists last year for the Hawks. Jamison Essen, the sophomore midi, had 16 goals and he had one assist. Give him a pat on the back for that one. There you go, James. All right. Short stick D mid Colin Usher comes back. 17 ground balls, 14 calls turnovers, three goals and one assist. Pretty solid little player there. Junior defenseman Jonah Pappas. Kirsten? Kirsten?

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Kirsten. And goalie Austin Vedder.

SPEAKER_03

He was at 60%. So they've got some. This is the way I look at this team. They've got core returning on both offense and defense.

SPEAKER_01

Some Canadians up there playing attack for them.

SPEAKER_03

Their challenge once again, and we've said this several times as we go through these previews, is depth.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's tough to roll with those numbers, you know. Just don't just dunk out the legs. Another young team, low on numbers. It's tough to play.

SPEAKER_03

The teams like you Indy and Rockhurst. Make them closer. They're out of conference. I don't know. They could do okay out of conference. They've got a good shot at getting several wins on that, you know? So whether that really gets them ready to play the big boys in in the conference, I don't know. But I I think we've talked about this before. It's always a challenge. Do you throw them in the deep end of the pool and get beat up when you've got only 30 guys? Or do you let them progress through the season and wait and see what they build their confidence maybe to be ready for that? Now the now the challenge with that, and the problem with that is when you play Rockhurst, Lewis, Maryville, Undy, they're in a different league than many of the boys they're playing out of conference.

SPEAKER_01

I'm telling you, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I mean it's a building block, it's another building block year for Cooper.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, hopefully, co hopefully Coach Ace Vita had a good year of recruiting where they can get 15-20 fresh kids coming in and build up that roster from 28 to 40. 40.

SPEAKER_03

And so by 2028 and 2029, they're a really good competitive team.

SPEAKER_01

And with some depth, because in this league, the way the GLVC is built right now, Kev, three out of four out of four, at least three or four teams are going to be ranked. I mean, this is a good league now, you know. This is not a BS league at all. And you're gonna have to put players out there, you know, three-star, four-star kind of players out there to compete with the Lewises and the Maryvills. And, you know, even the Rockhursts now. The Rock look, you know, Rockhurst has made a move in the last two years. So um I think I I just like to see Coach Acevito beef up the numbers there that just help Steen and La Lama and Jamison Essen, you know, just going 20% at the dot is doom in this conference. It's doom.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you add that in with the clear percentage, right? If you get the clear percentage at 90 and you're at if you're above 90 and your clear and your faceoff is like at 30, then you could potentially be in a Delphi of a couple years ago, right? Where you're protecting the ball and you're using it efficiently and effectively when you have it on offense. The challenge with that is clears at 81% and faceoff 23%. Ain't gonna cut it in in this league. Coach knows that. He's just got to continue to build. And that's what this this year is just a building block here.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Stop the turnovers, improve with the dot, and add some beef up the roster.

SPEAKER_03

And that's the same thing with our last team, the William Jewell Cardinals. It's a new program, guy. Yeah. Out of Liberty, Missouri, it's their third year, first year for head coach Andrew Brionis. He was the assistant and interim last year, so it's not like he's coming here new. He knows this program. But look at last year, they were 2-12 and 0-5 in conference, and that was I wrote back to reality as a second-year program. And the one thing Coach said to us when he came on was they needed to learn how to lose. Because their first season went so well that when adversity hit slapped them in the face, they didn't know how to handle it. They couldn't handle it. Yep. Why? They were young. They are a young team, and so they had to learn of how do I deal with that? How do we get back up on that horse and keep riding?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, which is always a part of being in a young program, I think. You know, especially if you start out kind of good winning four or five games, you know, in your in your inaugural season. What concerns me, Kev, is that last year they had 40 on their roster. This year they only have 34 on their roster that I counted. And only four freshmen.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, remember a coach said they got he got a little bit late in recruiting for this year. They have 12 sophomores. They do have 17 juniors, which is really their foundation. But look at you need another class coming in to beef up. We just talked about it. There's not much difference between 33, 34, or 30. You got a few extra players, but it's not that deep for them in in the roster to have the kind of depth they need to run to be competitive against those top teams. Tiffin, Northwest Nazarene, and Quincy.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So that's not too bad. I think that's a good schedule. Just like we said, Quincy's. Yeah. That's a good schedule for them. I think that's where they need to be. Same thing with Quincy in a lot of ways. Does it get them ready for GLVC play? Not really, but it does get them to build their confidence and keeps them probably a little bit healthier moving into playing in the GLVC.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they got some players coming back. Carson Wright led the team in goals last year with 16 goals, had 22 points. Nathaniel LaRue had 14 goals. He comes back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so those are their top two scores. So that's great.

SPEAKER_01

Declan Finds comes back, 12 goals, seven assists. Defenseman Matt Peterson comes back. You know where he's from?

SPEAKER_03

Where is he from?

SPEAKER_01

Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cap. 33 ground balls, 13 cost turnovers. Faceoff Cody Kaiser, 40%. Not great, not bad, not great, you know. Young guy. Goalie Finn Zabraith is not on the roster. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I saw that too. I originally went back and looked today. Finn Zybreath not on not returning, which surprised me because he would have been a junior this year. He had 54% saves. Now look at they've got three guys on the roster now, Isaac Kessler and Kyle Kelly, both sophomores, and junior Dawson Coppinger. They all three of them have had playing time for this team.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Kyle Kelly got the most minutes, the sophomore out of Anthem, Arizona.

SPEAKER_03

So the question is who steps up and can they step up and give that kind of save percentage that that Finn did? Because Finn was a good player.

SPEAKER_01

I think they had another player enter the portal. I think Cyber, he must have entered the portal, right?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. I try to look up where he went. I couldn't find it just Googling it.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, yeah, yeah. He's not on the roster, which kind of surprised me. So Coach Bionas, he's got his hands full. It's a neophyte program, Kev. It's a beginning program. This is only their third year. You know, they're they're putting the building blocks in. They're still going to the store to shop for the ingredients. Yeah. They don't have the ingredients yet. So they're still in the building process.

SPEAKER_03

They want to get to being competitive on their schedule against the teams they play. And they want to start, I think, with wins and out of conference, and they want to make it close when they play in conference. That's that would be my goals. I think their goals, same thing with Quincy. Like if you look at stats, right? The goal is to get better in those team stats that will sooner or later, and probably not this year, start equating to more wins and above 500.

SPEAKER_01

They got some work to do. Yeah. It's a building, you know, they're they're building their program. They're only in their second year. Like I said, they're still at the store shopping for the ingredients. You know what I mean? They're at that. So they were two and twelve last year. You know, again, with only 34 on the roster and four freshmen. That's a little concerning to me. You know, just being who I am, saying I'd like to see some more players in there. And if the program's going to grow, you're going to need more than four freshmen. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. I I agree. I agree.

SPEAKER_01

They're or you go into the portal and you start paying people to come, you know, giving them good scholarships to come to your school. Yeah. You know, I that's where they are. So I think they're building, you know, building, they're still building their program. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And I I think that's a good idea. And they're doing a good job. They're doing a good job. I and I and I think they're going to get better. I'd love to see. I hope I see the same thing out of Quincy. Quincy was starting to climb up with RuPaul. I think I'm hoping that Coach Assavito will be able to do the same thing, get more players in there. But really, right now, it's a four-team league and then a two-team league below that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so if we recap, if you want to recap the GLVC, Meryville looks very, very good with Simonson Tobias, Mickett, and Zemey, all them guys coming back. You know, they were very good, solid squad. Like I said, top to bottom. You know, they've lost a couple of guys in Clayton Sorrett and Jack Greeby, but they had Reed Ursay. They had Zach Baker in years past, and they just replaced them. So I don't see Meryville falling at all. I think they're going to be right there in the mix. I think they're going to be one of the better teams in the country. What do you say?

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I think I said that earlier. I think you look at Maryville as going to be right at the top. I think Lewis and Rockhurst are right there with them. On paper right now, I think they're right there with them. UIndy, I don't see any gaps really, except that they're younger. So what can they do? Can they really, really step up?

SPEAKER_01

I think the other thing is they're going to put points on the board. They only average like nine or ten goals a game last year, Undy. So these young guys need the ball. They need to bury the biscuits. Hey, I haven't said bury the biscuit in a long time.

SPEAKER_03

I'll tell you though. I wouldn't bet against Coach Stocks.

SPEAKER_01

I gotta see. I'm I'm a wait and see about Undy. I think they're circling the wagons. I think they're gonna have to re-figure something out there. That's just me. That's just me.

SPEAKER_03

You look at all these teams, those you look at Rockhurst, you look at uh Lewis, and you look at Merryville, the only one that I would say that that I saw that has a gap that we don't know really is Meryville. Because of goalie with Dylan Radke and Evan Alfano coming in, spending the last two years under his wings. So, and I wouldn't say that's a gap, that's a question mark.

SPEAKER_01

Kev, if you go, if you look at you, Indy, you take Schaefer and Lamb out of the mix, you got guys that are only scoring 14, 10, 13 goals. You need more than that. They need to put up, the Greyhounds need to put up more than 10 goals a game if they want to stay relevant in the GLBC. And it's gonna be hard for them because Rockhurst has a great defense. Peruzzi's defense is ridiculous, and Maryville's defense is gonna be ridiculous. So I think Uwindi is going to be number four on that list for me.

SPEAKER_03

Right now on paper, I agree with you, they are number four, but their defense, their defense coming back is very strong, too. I think you're gonna see some of those players stepping up. I think you're gonna see some of the offensive players stepping up. They're gonna be doing more than just nine, ten goals. They're gonna get in the 20s. I look at uh Matt Pereira had had 19. So there's some that are that are right on the on the edge.

SPEAKER_01

They need guys in the 25, 30, 35 range. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

I think you're gonna see that. I think you're gonna see that out of some of those players this year. We'll see.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we shall see.

SPEAKER_03

But I agree with you on paper that out of the four, you Indy, is uh is a step below the other three.

SPEAKER_01

Now, Lewis, I think is gonna be tough this year. Oh, yeah. I just my question is at Fogo. That's it. That's my only question with Torello gone. 62%. He was pretty badass. I mean, they have guys coming back. I I, you know, but the thing that that what they got going on is that last year they led the conference in almost every category. They just came up a little bit short in one or two games last year. Again, I said there was a couple of games I felt that they should have won, that they lost a little inconsistency there, maybe in the middle of the season, kind of got it back towards the end. I think uh Coach Peruzzi and the Lewis Flyers are gonna be a tough, tough team.

SPEAKER_03

I agree.

SPEAKER_01

I like the Rockhurst Hawks, Kev. I just love what Kevin out. I just love what Kevin Kelly put there together. You know what? And he's got a good out-of-conference schedule. I think they could be six, seven wins in before conference play starts. You know, and they play, you know, they're playing Tampa, they're playing Florida Southern, they're playing Westminster, you know. Some pretty, pretty big boys there, you know, top 10, top 15 teams. Tampa's gonna be they're gonna be national contenders again, I'm sure. Yeah. So like the Rockhurst Hawks, I think the Flyers are gonna be tough. Quincy's got some work to do, a little bit. Acevedo, they need to bump up the numbers, I think. Get better at the face-off, get better at clear, just improve. They just need to improve in some categories and get and then William Jewell, just got to get some players there. That's all.

SPEAKER_03

They're like they're both with both those, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They're building their program, you know what I mean? So again, the only thing that concerns me about William Jewell was only four freshmen because if you want to build your program, you want to bring in fifteen, eighteen. Yeah. I agree. Up to twenty freshmen because you know you're gonna lose a few of them. You know, stuff poor from home, I miss mom, you know, or whatever it is. Miss my girlfriend. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

This was the one I thought it was gonna be. This is Right. That goes on. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So you always lose a couple. You know what I mean? You'll lose a couple to the portal. You lose guys to just, I don't want to do this. And you know. So I think in order to for William Jewell, the Cardinals, to build up their program, they they really have to do some serious recruiting this year. I agree. I agree. And that's it. I think it's a great conference.

SPEAKER_03

It is. It is. It'll be it's always fun to watch, especially in conference games. I love watching them. It's going to be a shootout, I think, uh, at the top. Again, I would not be surprised whatsoever if we get a sixth. We move to someone else besides Meryville in 2026 as the GLVC tournament champion.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we might even be adding people. You never know. By the end of this year, there might be another school entering, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

Shout outs

SPEAKER_03

Alright. Time to move to shout outs.

SPEAKER_01

No shout-outs for me, Kev, tonight.

SPEAKER_03

I've got one. It's across a few different groups, but one shout-out. And I want to shout out Southern Fried Lax, Lacrosse Reference, and D2 Lax updates. These guys do a great job. Not only doing reviews, Southern Fried Lax doing reviews of Southern teams not only in D2, but we'll focus in on D2.

SPEAKER_01

Kind of cool.

SPEAKER_03

Lacrosse Reference does not only reviews of teams of individual players in D2, along with other divisions, but I I subscribe to the D2. That man's crazy. That man's crazy. That just adds a lot. These guys aren't competitors. They're collaborators with us, Danny. There are buds, man. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We're rolling this together.

SPEAKER_03

So I want to shout them out for the great work they do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Shout out to those boys. They do work hard. You know, the D2 Lack update, he's great with the graphics on Instagram and uh he and the post and uh Lack's reference is great. I love it. I read it religiously. That man's nuts, though.

SPEAKER_03

He's completely the stats he pulls out, I get lost in half of them.

SPEAKER_01

He starts talking. I'm like, I don't know. I can't lost me four sentences in.

SPEAKER_03

But it's great because what I usually do with all three of them is it's a great reference for me when we're doing our stuff, right?

SPEAKER_01

Right. No, great. Yeah, 100%. I I look on it.

SPEAKER_03

Do they have a different take than what I was thinking about when I'm doing my my previews? What how do the stats that Lax lacrosse reference provides either adds or changes my opinion, right? And then D2 Lax updates, God almighty, I wish I could do the graphics like they do. I just steal their stuff a lot of times and I repost.

SPEAKER_01

They're so good. That's all right. And so fight lax is great. It's awesome what those guys are doing. Yeah, yeah. Phenomenal. So good shout-out, Kev. Good shout out to those boys.

SPEAKER_03

So that's it, Danny. We're wrapping up another conference preview. This one with the GLVC.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was a great one. 12th Street and Vine, 12th Street and Vine. Chubby checker. No, it's actually Fats Domino. And that's the GLVC. And that is a rat. And that's a rat cup.
