SPEAKER_00

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of In the Creek with Danny and Kevin, a coast-to-coast discussion of deep two men's across. I'm your co-host, Kevin Stenstrom, and with me as always is our high sea Somalier, Danny Moran. Hey, Danny.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, Kevin, what's going on? How's it going? You're out in San Diego tonight, aren't you?

SPEAKER_00

I am. I am. So it's kind of like the coffee and wine. My wife used to have a podcast called Coffee and Wine, where she was having coffee and her co-host was in Spain having wine. We're three hours apart right now. We're usually in the same time zone, but we're different. It's only we're recording this. It's 4 12 in the afternoon for me. And how's the weather in uh San Diego? It's cloudy and actually cool. I wouldn't say it's cold like it is in uh on the on the east, but it's like 60 degrees. Oh, that is cool for San Diego. They're usually at like 72 average year round. Yesterday, and and now it's it's a it's a bit chilly, but believe me, I'll take it over what we had in uh what we have in Virginia right now. Oh, that leads perfectly into my summer bees.

SPEAKER_03

This cold weather. It's still here. You gotta have songs like this to keep it going. I need some summer breeze and a high sea.

SPEAKER_01

Summer breeze.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, need some summer breeze. That's tonight's theme song. It's been still cold. Like it's a crazy here. I'm so done with it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, hopefully it'll start to change. We still had some weather problem with uh games. We'll get into that a little bit. Another one was postponed that we were talking about last week. We'll get to that. Virginia State game got postponed.

SPEAKER_03

New Park Virginia State game.

SPEAKER_00

Point Park's first game ever is now not last week, but it's this coming week against Deuville. We'll get them going. We'll get Point Park Pioneers from Pittsburgh PA going soon. That's right. But it's time to bring back another

Top 10 Countdown

SPEAKER_00

segment.

SPEAKER_03

All right, Kev, our first top 10 countdown of the 2026 season. Starting off with number one, Adelphi Panthers. They didn't play. They actually faced Walsh for their opening game this Friday. Uh number two, Tampa beat Lenore Ryan in a close one, 13-10. Tampa goes to 3-0, Kev. Yeah. They're finding finding ways to win. That's right. They're not killing people, but they're finding ways to find ways to win. Uh they traveled to Flagler next. Should be a pretty maybe maybe a kind of exciting game. Number three, St. A's didn't play. They don't play for another like a couple of weeks, I think. Uh number four, Wingate over Florida Southern, 17-11. They traveled to Melbourne, Florida to face a stubborn Florida Tech team this Saturday. Number five, Maryville over Davenport. Woof. Only gave up three goals. 12-3 was the final there. And Maryville faces Thomas More next. Uh number six, Seton Hill. Did not play, but they open up season play this week, Kev, with a big one. Uh they'll play Lewis. Yeah, we'll be talking about that game. Yeah, definitely. Number seven, Anderson over North Greenville, 19-10. They came from behind, Kev. They were losing for a while in that game. That was a lot closer game until the fourth quarter when they broke it open. Yeah, they broke it wide open. Number eight, Lenore Ryan lost to Tampa 13-10. They play Emily Emory Riddle next in Jacksonville. That might be a pretty exciting game to watch as well. Number nine, Pace. They didn't play yet. They faced number 10, Malloy on February 21st when they opened stuff up. That'll be a good game. I think Malloy starts this week, right? Yes. Number 10, Lewis beat Walsh 15-8 rather handily. Some pretty good offensive uh prowess from our man Paul Roskowski up there. Yeah. Yeah. He had a game. He did, he did. He definitely did. And like I said, Lewis faced Seton Hill. And that's our first top 10 countdown of the 2026 season, Kev. I love it. I love it, Danny. Let's move on. Hold on. I got a couple of quick scores to note, though.

SPEAKER_00

Go right ahead. I apologize.

SPEAKER_03

Did you see St. Leo? They put up 24 on Montevallo. They looked very, very good. It was 24-10, was the final. Wow. That's all I could say.

SPEAKER_00

I watched their first game against UAH, and their offense, the way they pass the ball. And they're deep, too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're going to be tough. How about Emory Riddle Eagles, huh? They go to 2-0 and they move into the top 20, Kev, this week, with their win over UAH, man.

SPEAKER_00

They're 3-0. Oh, they're 3-0. That's right, I'm not going to be able to do that. Three Peach Belt teams. Flagler, Monavalo, and UAH.

SPEAKER_03

Pretty, pretty impressive beginning for Emory Riddle, huh? LMU are all over William Jewell. 15-8. Great start for LMU. Great win for them. How about PBA? Yeah. They're 2-0. They beat Barton 10-9, close one. Was that OT, that one?

SPEAKER_00

It was overtime.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was an OT game. This is what I'm saying. This team, Florida Tech. Gotta watch out for them. They beat Rollins 13-9 this past week. Yeah. Florida Tech's 2-1. And they were tied with Tampa.

SPEAKER_00

They were one of those teams, I think we said in the conference preview, that we had to see them on the field to see what they're really going to be made up with. And they are passing the test.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they they look pretty good. They're athletic. They got nice size. So and how about our boys in Virginia, Kev? The Emory Henry boys. Yeah. Congrats to those guys because they won their first game in program history over the weekend over DE, beat them 11 to 7. So congratulations, Emory and Henry, on the first win of your program history. Guys got to be excited. I'm sure there was uh a couple of high C's going on tonight.

SPEAKER_00

Did they call you for any advice on which high C's to drink?

SPEAKER_03

No, they know what to do in Virginia. They know what to do. They know what to do. So those are just a couple of quick.

SPEAKER_00

Those are good. I like that. I I I lost the bubble, Danny. You corrected me quickly. I like when you go through some extra scores. That's

Week in Review

SPEAKER_00

really good. All right, let's move on to the week in review of games we were able to watch. Let's start with the teacher and the student as coaches. Katawba against Mount Olive.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you and I, you well, you said at the last podcast it was going to be close. I said Kotaba by five, and you said no, it's going to be a close one. I said Kataba by six. We were laughing at each other. Oh, Kataba big. Yeah. They controlled that game.

SPEAKER_00

Controlled it.

SPEAKER_03

Complete domination. It was a complete domination. Uh held him scoreless in half the game. And two quarters held him scoreless. Yeah. Yeah. They were just even even though like Kel Petrov won most of the draws for Mount Olive, he was really good. That was it. They just couldn't do anything. They didn't have the horses to slow down the Katabia Indians. They just didn't.

SPEAKER_00

Mount Olive couldn't generate any offense.

SPEAKER_03

Couldn't get anything going, really. They really couldn't. I mean, they were having troubles all over. The only place they didn't have troubles was at face-off. Petrov was really good, man. So I felt that the Katabi Indian squad really is much improved from what I seen. They look pretty good, man.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, it's funny. You said that we talked about this. I thought it would be closer. I did think it was going to be closer, but I did say, you know, the last this was the rubber match, right? So Mount Olive won two years ago, Katabi last year, and I said that Katabas team is a lot different than where they were in 2024, and they showed it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, um, you know, uh Rare, Mercer, and Garrett Simi got the Indians out to a fast start. It was 3-0 after one in the second. Uh Van Derlee finally got the Trojans on the board, but Tanner Scout, he he scored the first of his two goals for the Indians. Then Hunter Clark said, Hey, what about me? And he buried a biscuit. And uh the Indians were just on their way. It was 5-1 after that. And the first half ended with the Indians in complete firm control, Kev. I mean, they were leading 7-2 at halftime. The Indian defense was really the story today, holding to uh holding uh Mount Olive to scoreless, like I said, in in two and half the game. So I mean, they outshot him 50 to 27. Uh Mount Olive only had 12 shots on goal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's what I had in my notes, too. There was a huge difference. Kataba's 31.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, I mean, they had 10 turnovers to to Kataba's three. Ground ball war was kind of close. Uh extra man, uh, Kataba was one for two. There was no penalties for Mount Olive to go up. Um, it was just a complete domination. Yeah. So for Kataba, uh Michael Steckmiller had three goals. The freshman, Stratton Rare, three goals and one assist. Tanner Stout had two goals. Boston Rare must be his brother, right? Yeah, I would think so. One goal and two assists. Uh Peyton Turner, four assists, dish and dimes, Mr. Turner. Uh Hunter Clark and Peter Graffo each had one. Oh, oh, and Owen Conway as well. And Garrett Seamy had a had a goal, too. Yep, yep, yep. And uh Jack Hart had three ground balls. Uh Ben Lapiccolo in the goal, gave up four, saved eight. And like I said, Kale Petrov was 16 for 15 at the dot. Uh Mount Olive, Ben Verkeley, three goals and one assist. Josh Stewart, one goal. Trent Steele, two ground balls. Kurt Lensing, 16 saves. And uh, like I said, Kale Petrov for 16 for 15 at the dot. And that's it. It was just all Kotaba all day, every day, Saturday, Sunday, and twice on Sunday. So I don't have to eat crow on that one. So that was a quality. That was a quality game by Kotabba. They played well.

SPEAKER_00

The one you have to eat a little crow on, just a little. Well, I gotta eat crow is the Westminster Concordia University Irvine game. Oh, yeah. A lot of crow I gotta eat on that one. Westminster took them to task. They win this one 22 to 10. I watched this game, Danny. First of all, you gotta say, it was a great crowd. Of course, the weather, you're in Irvine, California. Yeah. Not too bad, right? Nope. Here was the difference. Two things. Penalties and turnovers, I think, were the name of the game. Penalties for Westminster kept CUI in the game in the first half, and then turnovers were the difference for CUI. Not by a lot, not that their turnovers were as much more than they had a few more turnovers than Westminster, but it's what it's the fact that Westminster then capitalized on those turnovers with transition goals was the big difference.

SPEAKER_03

See, I didn't watch the game. Now, what kind of vibe, what kind of feel did the game have?

SPEAKER_00

It was a game of runs. It was weird. It was a game of runs. Westminster was up by one after one, four to three, and then they opened a four-goal lead to make it eight-four. It was nine-four at half. So they actually did five goals in a row. You're like, okay, here's Westminster. They're going on a run. They continued that scoring run in the second, in the third quarter, and they go up, they put three more up. They're up 12 to 5. And you're like, okay. Yeah, routes on. Route's on. Then Concordia goes on a five-goal run. And they did it, though. Here's really interesting. Westminster gets gets called on a penalty, a two-minute non-releasable. Okay. And CUI took advantage of it. They scored three goals in that time frame. Okay. Which is exactly what you want. And I even wrote down they kind of took the momentum. Now there's a total momentum swing. It's at that time it's 12-9, 6.55 left. Westminster silences them with a pull goal in the net to make it 13-9 after three. And then Westminster just lights it up again. And they go up 18 to 10 with a five-goal run. Wow. Okay. And like I said, the real and then it ends up being 22-10 in the end. Penalties for Westminster. Westminster had seven penalties. And that one that was you know full-time locked down was the killer. CUI had 21 turnovers. A lot of them, though, were really unforced, like just errors. Yeah, just bad passes. Bad passes, dropped passes. Right. And and then all of a sudden, Westminster just capitalized on it. I said last week that you had to watch out for the Griffins loaded offense, right? They had five of six top scores coming back. Could CUI, their new defense, handle that? And they really couldn't keep up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Especially in transition, some of those transition goals and whatnot. Now, the other the flip side is CUI and their special teams. They just like you talked about it with Mount Olive, they won the face-off war. They won 22 of 31 face-offs. So that kind of kept them in the game a little bit, but they just could not stop Westminster. You look at Westminster, they had 11 different players who scored goals. Yeah, that's that's the depth.

SPEAKER_03

That's the depth coming through.

SPEAKER_00

Which we knew that they were going to have. Harrison Edwards had six goals, Luke Stillstrop had four goals, two assists. Daxton Jensen, Pierce Dahl, and Ridge Crouch all had two goals apiece, and Liam Sweeney had three assists. On the CUI side, Jack LePore had three goals, Noah Pilla had two goals, and then Max Tester, Parker Till, and Matt Carese had two assists each. So they had some players that were that were playing well. They just could not keep up with that pace that's that Westminster was playing.

SPEAKER_03

And that depth, you know, they keep running out those fresh legs, fresh legs. So Westminster looked good. Yeah, I got to take to eat a little crow. And uh let's keep an eye on CUI. I mean, one bad game doesn't make them a bad team.

SPEAKER_00

No, and I think it's also one of those things that you say, look at they started their both teams started with an in-conference game. They know each other. Westminster was just a lot sharper. This is the first game of the season for both. We say this all the time. You're gonna have a lot of errors that you're gonna be able to clean up during the year. Yeah. And CUI maybe should be able to do that. They they've got a big roster, they've got a good roster, they've got good players. Yeah. They just were kind of steamrolled a little bit in this one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're gonna be good, I think, CUI. Again, I think they're just one of those teams that are good that fly under the radar a little bit, not a big history like we were talking last week. Right. And what with those guys, you know, Poe and Daniel Yang and those guys coming back, gives them some leadership in in some pretty key areas. So they'll look at what they need to clean up, and uh and that's yeah, I think they'll be fine.

SPEAKER_00

Now the the interesting thing to me is to see where what what Westminster can do the rest of the season. They looked ready to go. You know, so and like I we said in the conference preview, to me on paper, they looked really, really strong. They showed it their first game out. The other game, Danny, that I probably have to eat a little crowd Colorado Mesa against Rockhurst. Yeah. Colorado Mesa pulls it out at 9-7. This was a close game. This was a close game and somewhat of a back and forth game. I'll tell you, I think the difference was Colorado Mesa's defense. Okay. They were swarming, and the other thing was the time of possession. They really, really held possession time. Like they would they had one more face-offs, 12-5, so they were getting the ball after goals, make it take it. But the other thing was a lot of times, they would shoot and be able to get the ball back. Right? They had a guy on the goal. It was or and they they had a lot of time left on the clock, or it would hit the post. It would hit a Lila stick, it would hit something, so then they'd get the they'd get a reset 60 seconds, and they were in that in their offensive set for two, three minutes. Wow. And I think that's really what kind of broke Rockhurst a little bit to do it for the Mavs. Look at it, it was it was 2-2 after one, it was 4-4 at half, and then Rockhurst opens a scoring first in the second half to make it 5-4, and then Mesa evens it up about a minute and a half later with a great pass to the crease to make it 5-5, and then they go on a roll with five in a row. Yeah, wow. And so they make it it's nine-six after three, and then they really just they were held to no goals in in the second in the fourth quarter, Mesa. Here's the difference when I talk about possession time. Colorado Mesa had 59 shots to Rockhurst 35, and I think a lot of that had to do with resets. Right. Yeah, sure. In my mind.

SPEAKER_03

Make it take it, like you said, when you're getting the ball back all the time, you know. Yeah. So you're gonna go.

SPEAKER_00

Right, so so just to go down Colorado Mesa, Dylan Pless had three goals, Connor Jensen had one goal, two assists, Stefan Stefan Bingham Dingbum had two goals, Nick Moore, Eric Peterson, and Deuce Kirchke, great name, one goal apiece. Ryan Pless had four ground balls and two cause turnovers. On Rockhurst, their man, Jonah McConnell, had four goals. Adam Husseby had two assists. Carson Bradshaw, Gabe Miller, and Linus Tword had one goal apiece, and Connor Faulkner had two ground balls and three cause turnovers. In the end, yeah, it was 9-7. Possession time to me was the big deal. Yeah, close game.

SPEAKER_03

So, yeah, Mac is good, man. They're always good. They're always knocking on the door. They're yeah, they're always a tough team, man. Yeah. Okay, you want to move. It looks like they're improved too. Rockers' gonna be a good team.

SPEAKER_00

I like them. Yeah. Okay, Danny, let's talk about our game of the week. Tampa against Lenore Ryan.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, number two Tampa Spartans against the number seven Lenore Ryan Bears. Top ten matchup. Did you watch the game, Kev? I did. I did. It was a good game. Yeah, it was a good game. Uh a little bit of sloppy play by both teams in the beginning. Tampa had a few failed clears in the beginning, and both teams had some uh unforced turnovers, but Tampa Zach Friend got the Spartans going on the board first. Two minutes later, Nate Serrano was able to get LR on the board for the first goal of the season for the LR Bears. They didn't have some preseason games uh canceled, and their game last week against U Indy was canceled. So this was their first game, some first match really in a while. So uh that looked a little stale a little bit, the the LR Bears. Uh each team traded goals in the half, but LR had some trouble defending at GLE Kev. They they really struggled. They were putting poles up top, leaving a shorty at the bottom, and Tampa was able to take advantage of that and buried three quick biscuits, one by Zach Friend and one by Grant Green. Then Owen Scott and Donnie Powell and Jared Hoff, those boys, and Nate Serrano for LR were able to keep the Bears close. And it was 8-6 at half, kind of back and forth kind of game. The second half, the opening face-off, Tampa's uh Tampa's Fogo got called for a shot to the head, leading to a two-minute uh unreleasable LR man up. And uh LR, they gave it away. They forced it into the crease and lost possession, and Tampa was able to kill a penalty, which was a big part, big play, man. I thought like LR had a chance there. Uh LR threw the ball away again and gave the Spartans yet another possession, and the Tampa scored again under the under that short stick D Milly Sello Celo. He got beat under at GLE again, got caught underneath, and uh LR, like I said, was putting those poles up top and leaving the short stick D mid down low. And then Tampa extended their league on a beautiful textbook fast break. And Tampa took a five-goal lead. But LR, being, you know, that stubborn, tough, really good team, they kind of weathered the storm and got three back before the end of the quarter, and Tampa led 12-9 after three. And then in the fourth quarter, LR was trying to force some bad shots, just some poor selections shots, and each team only scored one in the frame. And yet, you know, here we go. Tampa, not the cleanest game, not the cleanest game for Lenore Ryan. Uh, but yet Tampa, if they find a way to they find a way to win again. Uh, Tampa goes to 3-0 for uh the Spartans. Rex Kesselring, three goals and one assist. Zach Friend had two goals and two assists. He's having a really good season so far. Grant Green as well, two goals. Uh our man Jackson Bashaw had two assists. Uh Justin Conley had two goals. Eric Burbank had a goal. Conley Stone with three cause turnovers uh for the Lenore Ryan Bears. Owen Scott had four goals. He looked pretty good. Jared Huff had two goals and one assist. Sloan Stewart was uh was pretty good too. He had a goal and assist. Donnie Powell, not his usual self, but he did look good out there. Uh one goal, two assists, and Nate Serrano with two goals. Uh Lenore Ryan outshot Tampa 37-29. Uh LR had 23 shots on goal to Tampa's 20. Uh Tampa had 10 turnovers to Lenore Ryan's 13 uh clearing. Tampa was 17 for 23. Uh Lenore Ryan was 17 for 21. Ground balls were even at 13. And the EMOs, uh, neither one of them were able to bury a biscuit on the EMO. So kind of a you know, first game, kind of sloppy game for Lenore Ryan. I think Coach Paradine would probably agree with me. Um they put the freshman in goal, kid, uh Kev. They put the freshman in goal. So, I mean, he looked good in some spots, and some spots he didn't look good. So here you are, you're a freshman, you're on Lenore Rhine, you didn't get a chance to play your preseason game because of uh weather. You didn't get a chance to play your first game really against a good team like you Windy because of weather. So they throw him right in the deep end of the pool against Tampa.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and here's some things that I noticed of the game. First of all, in the first half, Lenore Ryan seemed to me that they had a lot of good looks. They just couldn't bury the rock several times. And so, and and the then the next thing you you mentioned it about uh Tampa and how they were able to to get down at at the X and score. To me, the other thing was, and maybe this comes down to just like you said, Tampa, this was their third game, first game for Lenore Ryan. Tampa always seemed to have the upper hand, and Lenore Ryan always had to come back. And it got to that point when they got that five-goal lead, it was too too big to come back with that gap.

SPEAKER_03

Usually that's not a lead that LR can't overcome with that type of difference that they have. Totally agree. You know, I just felt that LR's offense was just not clicking. They just were not, those pistons weren't firing on all eight, Kev. You know what I mean? They just just they that forced some errors, they had some, you know, bad passes, some poor poor shot selection, especially at the end, you know, towards the fourth quarter, you're down a couple of goals. You want to get kind of pressed a little bit. Yeah, you want to get good possessions and move the ball well and get open shots, and they were kind of like forcing it maybe a little bit, I guess. First game jitters, that's part of it. I think part of it was the freshman and goalie. I mean, what a hell of a first game for your college career to start, man, you know, like JB and the boys coming to town. It's not, you know, and uh it was cold. It was cold down in Carolina this weekend.

SPEAKER_00

So well, here's the other thing. We talked about the face-off matchup, and we thought mancini would have the upper hand, but it was 50%. Yeah, it was each one of them. Yeah, it was even it was easy. So that's almost that's a win for Tampa.

SPEAKER_03

Hundred percent win for Tampa. Yeah. Mancini looked good, you know. Just again, I think it's first game, you know, finally playing against another squad. You know what I mean? That's they're they're three weeks behind, kind of a little bit, LR. You know what I mean, with losing those games uh to due to the weather. So I mean Lenore Ryan and Coach Paradine, they'll they'll write the ship. They're gonna they're gonna be a very good team. I want to see how that defense and and because you know the offense is gonna get it together at some point. You know, that that's just a matter of time and more reps and whatnot. But uh I think you know, in goal, I'm still got that question mark.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I do too. We'll have to see. They've got a lot of goalies in the goalie room. Let's see if the the freshman uh can can weather the storm, or they bring someone else in and see what it's like. I know that they had it they had a little bit of a revolving door last year. I'm sure Coach Barney would like to see one become the dominant player. We'll just have to see how it goes. Absolutely.

Offensive Player of the Week

SPEAKER_03

In the crease, player of the week, offense. All right. This week's In the Crease Offensive Player of the Week, we had a couple of players out there that played really well this weekend. Uh I could have made a case for two, maybe three, maybe four different players out there. Uh our man Paul Roskowski over at uh Lewis had himself a game with nine goals. Uh Sean Clark, the attackman, had six goals and assists for Wingate. I mean, there were some big goal games from some players, but this week's offensive player of the week goes to Southern New Hampshire University sophomore Las Voksen, the sophomore from guess where, Kev Frankfurt, Germany. Wow. Yeah, are you ready for this? In his very first collegiate game, he set an NCAA record for the best season opener with eight goals, seven assists, and fifteen points. Are you kidding me? That's crazy. So Los Vol Quardsen, V-O-Q-U-A-R-D, S-O-N, Vol Quardsen. Again, from Frankfurt, Germany. This might be somebody we might want to get on the program at some point. So, yeah. Eight goals, seven assists for 15 points, tied uh and the best season opener for an NCAA history. Congratulations, loss. Good job, buddy. That's quality right there, kid.

Defensive Player of the Week

SPEAKER_03

In the crease, player of the week, defense.

SPEAKER_00

Danny, just like you had several in the offensive side, last week's defensive player of the week was a goalie. This week's defensive player of the week was a goalie. And I'll tell you, there was a few that did a pretty good job. First one, as our runner-up, Owen Brown from Northwood, had 23 saves on 39 shots. Wow, is that against you, Indy. OB the ladies' man. OB the ladies man, from what his dad tells us. OB the AKA OB the ladies' man. You would think, I think last week our defensive player of the week had 18 saves. Well, our OB had 23, but our player of the week on defense is Davenport goalkeeper Sean House. He had 27 saves against Meryville for a 69% save percentage. That was against 39 shots on goal. But Merryville took 71 shots in that game.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my lord, 71 shots coming towards you. And how many on goal? 39. And he stopped 28 of them.

SPEAKER_00

27. 27. That's an amazing. Amazing. So shout out to Sean House, our defensive player of the week.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Sean. Good job, buddy.

Games to Watch this Week

SPEAKER_00

Alright, now it's time to move on to our games to watch this week. Who you got?

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know something? That Catawba Indian team has me intrigued a little bit. And uh Belmont Abbey won their first game over Morris Hill. They had to play at Wingate because there was uh Belmont Abbey's field was like underwater.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So uh Kataba plays Belmont Abbey at Belmont Abbey this weekend, Kev. I think that's gonna be a pretty decent game to watch. I think I'm all I'm keeping my eye on Kataba this year.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. That's a good matchup, totally. Another game I'm looking at happens on Friday, and that's St. Michael's at Frostburg. Both teams, first game, Danny, both teams are looking to rebound from where they were last year. Frostburg had some key losses on D and special teams. How do they look this year? And St. Mike's also lost some key members on D, along with their LSM and short stick D middies. This one could be close, and it's a good initial test for both of them going into the season. Who do you like? Frostburg at home. I'm gonna say pick'em. I agree with you. It could be a pick'em, but Okay. I'm gonna go with Frostburg at home. Who else do you have?

SPEAKER_03

I have another team that's kind of intriguing me right now is that those Emory Riddle Eagles, Kev. Yeah. And uh they go to South Carolina this weekend to play that Trojan team from Anderson University. I think that's gonna be a pretty good game. Anderson's stacked on offense, great defense, good coach, Emory Riddle. Um, good great coach, you know what I mean? And uh a team that's riding high right now and and and in the top 20. So I think that might be an exciting game to watch. Um, Anderson being at home, having a little bit more maybe pedigree. I'll take Anderson at home, but I think that should be a really good game to watch. What do you think?

SPEAKER_00

So I agree with you. They're actually playing that game, not at home, though. They're playing it in Jacksonville. Oh, that's right. That's right. I forgot. So I wanted to point that out. I wanted to make sure that was the case, but they are in Jacksonville. That's more like a home game. Emmy Riddle took care of business against Peach Peach Belt foes, Flagler, Monavalo, UAH, as we talked about earlier in the show. Anderson against a good North Greenville team, actually actually, we talked about this already too, was behind. But then they really turned on the gas in the fourth quarter. It's closer to home for Emory Riddle. I just think on paper still, Anderson has more depth, especially on the offensive side. I take Anderson in this one. Yeah, I I I agree with that.

SPEAKER_03

I I think I just want to see Emory Riddle play well against this team. I think, again, I I like Anderson with the just you know, a little bit more deeper. They got some good guys at the dot with A.J. Rush and Dixon and those guys. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. You know, that's gonna be a tough uh obstacle for the Eagles to overcome. But let's see, man, they've been playing well. So can they keep the streak going?

SPEAKER_00

Because they've been playing well. They really have. Totally agree. Okay, another game I'm looking at, Danny's on Saturday, and that's Mercy at Assumption. Yeah, I like that game too, Kev. That's gonna be a good game. Interesting one. Mercy actually follows this game up with a home game against Georgian Court on Wednesday. Assumption beat Deuville handily, but Mercy is a different beast. And they assumption, though, brings back a solid D. They have to reload a little bit on offense. I think this is another one of these close games. Who who do you think has this one?

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know, it's uh Assumption's home, so Mercy's on the road. It's been cold. It's still cold up here, and it's still cold up there. Um I'm gonna take Assumption in a close, close one, giving them that home field advantage a little bit. I I don't know what Mercy.

SPEAKER_00

Mercy's kind of like a restocked team right now. Yeah, well, and I think Assumption is so you had a pick'em game. I'd almost have this one as a pick'em game. I may, like you said, take the home team to do it. Um, but it's I think it's gonna be a close game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I I I agree with you. I think that's a good game. That's a good matchup. It is a very good game to watch. That's a good

Game of the Week

SPEAKER_03

matchup.

SPEAKER_00

All right, Danny. Our game of the week. It is a good one. It really is a top 10 matchup. I did not have one of the teams in my top ten, but everyone else does. So we're going with the top 10 matchup, and that's Lewis at Satan Hill.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's gonna be a good one, Kev. Uh Lewis, you know, with that revamped offense now with Carter Kaczynski up there. Seton Hill, I think, still one of the top two, three teams in the comp country. Uh it's gonna be a great game to watch.

SPEAKER_00

This one's gonna be a battle. It is gonna be a battle. Look at Lewis is 2-0 after beating Walsh, but Seton Hill, we talked about this with Emory Riddle going against Anderson. This is a different level that they're gonna be going against in Seton Hill. With their offense with guys like the Sheriff and Wade Brunell and others. I I yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Woof. I mean, tough one to pick because Lewis looks really good right now. Um, I'm gonna give the edge to Seton Hill a little bit, just being at home, and I don't know, man. I I I like that Seton Hill team. I think they're very good, but I also think Lewis is very good, too. I I've been liking them all year. I just from what I saw on paper when we did their conference previews, I mean, they're stacked and they got a they got a good offense, and they look good so far. So this is a great week to watch.

SPEAKER_00

This reminds me of the Tampa Lenore Ryan game. They're play Tampa had to go to Lenore Rhine, Lewis has to go to Seton Hill. This will be Lewis's third game to Seton Hill's first game. I'm gonna take Lewis in a close one. Wow. Wow. That would be an upset. So Coach Peruzzi does not like me doing that, picking his team, but that's what I'm doing.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I I mean, he's he's got a good squad this year, man. They're gonna be tough. I just think Seton Hill has just I don't know what that they got that it factor, man. They're just good. You know what I mean? They just every year I think Coach Novant is an excellent, excellent lacrosse coach.

Player's Spotlight

SPEAKER_03

Now it's time for the players for light.

SPEAKER_00

Time for the player spotlight. My favorite part, Kev. My favorite part. I know it. I know it. Tonight we bring on a player whose team has been known in the past for prolific offense. But last year, and I think this year too, it's their defense that's has really shined. And he who is coming on is one of those reasons. First team All-American last year, first team preseason all-American for this year, and I would expect he'll stay in that position when the 2026 season ends. Yeah, I don't think anybody's taking that spot.

SPEAKER_03

Not from what I've seen so far.

SPEAKER_00

No, no. So let's bring him on, Gordy Gombold of the Tampa Spartans.

SPEAKER_04

Gordy Gordy, how's it going? Thanks for having me on. I really appreciate the opportunity.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, thanks for coming out of the study hall, man. We appreciate it.

SPEAKER_04

Of course, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Mom and dad, we had to drag them out.

SPEAKER_04

I know, yeah. It took a lot to get me here. So yeah, I'm pumped. So good to have you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Gordy, I usually ask players what drew them to their school, but I think we probably know why you went to Tampa. I mean, you won't. I want to know how to Minnesota. Yeah, that's one question we have, but grew up in Minnesota, you're going to place the beautiful weather, a great team, always top five, usually in the nation. So the reasons are pretty easy why you would pick Tampa. So I want to know what is it like playing for a team that is always at that level and you always have a target on your back?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, it's it's definitely tough sometimes going into games. Like there is a lot of pressure. Um, because I guess a lot of other teams and whatever like other people expect you just to win games and take care of business. But our coaches do a really good job of keeping us humble, making sure that we're on the right track every week and just taking it, you know, one game at a time. Because I mean, we do play a lot of really good teams, and every team is getting better each year. And so, same with us, but like it's there, there's some good programs out there that are they hate us and they they want to take us off the map. So we gotta make sure that we stay humble. And I feel like we do a pretty good job of that. We work really hard every single week, we prepare really well for every game, and so our coaches do a phenomenal job of keeping us ready.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, year after year, you have one of the hardest schedules in division two. This year, I think you're like second or third hardest schedule in division two. That pressure, I know that the coaches try to keep you humble, but how do you as a player try to sit keep yourself there? Because it takes you, a part of you, to do that as well. What do you do to keep yourself at that level, you know, knowing that you know that pressure is on, like you said, everybody expects you to win games when you're at Tampa, you know. So that pressure is legit, you know. Yeah, like what is what does Gordy Gumbold do to keep himself level keeled?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, nothing crazy. I I watch a lot of film, I definitely stay. Prepared and watching film, critiquing my mistakes, going over practice and all that stuff. That just gives me more confidence going into the games, and then obviously looking at what the other team does and going into the scout. So as long as I do that, I feel really confident. And then I also journal. Like weeks get really complicated. There's a lot of schoolwork, um, pressure outside noise. And so that's something that I like to do a couple days a couple days a week is just journal, write down my thoughts because down here, like it moves fast. Like we're right in the city, there's a lot going on. Yeah, I have a packed schedule this this year, and so journaling really helps me take my mind off things, and also just hanging out with guys on the team, talking, being together. Um, it gives me a lot of confidence going into games, knowing that we're so close.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's awesome to hear that you do something like journaling. Uh, my daughter does the same thing, and I think that I was never like that. Uh I don't know how I blow off steam, and I can't even tell you, but I I've never been under the pressure you've been under either. So maybe in different ways. So Danny hit on something early that he wanted to ask you. So let's bring that up now. You come from Bloomington, Minnesota. How did a kid from Minnesota get recruited to the Tampa Spartans?

SPEAKER_04

Um, it was actually it's actually kind of a crazy story. So going into my junior year, we didn't really have a lacrosse season because it was COVID. So I graduated in 2022 from high school, actually. So we didn't have a COVID, we didn't have a year that year because of COVID. And then my senior year, I was like, oh, I I really want to play college lacrosse. Like that's kind of when I decided, like, all right, I want to play. And so I looked at Tampa, they had a full recruiting class um that year. So I couldn't, I didn't even get in. I didn't talk to any of the coaches, nothing. And I had other schools in um in our conference that were that I was talking to, but none of them really set or felt right with me. And so I did a postgrad year at Western Reserve Academy. It's a boarding school in uh Hudson, Ohio.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And I was there for two weeks into the fall, and the coach just got me in touch with Coach Sullivan here at the University of Tampa, and I took a trip, a visit, fell in love with the place, fell in love with the coaching staff and all the guys down there, and then made my decision two weeks into boarding school, and then finished that year and then came here in 2023.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, you must have been kicking ass that senior year for your coach to say, Hey, listen, let's talk to Tampa, you know, because they're if they're the upper echelon, so your coach must have seen something in you, and uh that's an interesting story.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, it was it was a different route because I mean I did four years and I I felt like I needed more exposure and little like an extra year to just grow as a person, and so I just kind of took a step back, did the postgrad year, and it was great. I mean, I played with phenomenal players that year, um, and I grew a lot as a person and as a lacrosse player.

SPEAKER_03

So I'm so that level that level of lacrosse at the at the reserve academy was a lot higher than at Jefferson High School.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, oh yeah, night and day. I mean, we probably had I think everyone in our class committed and played, and we had the majority of our class going to like Harvard, Hopkins, Georgetown, Princeton, Ohio State. Wow. So it was uh it was a really good year. It was a pretty eye-opening, honestly, going from Minnesota across to playing you know, boarding schools out east, playing um culver, like it was it was crazy, dude.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that must have been fun though, at the same time. It gets you, you think about when we just talked about pressure at Tampa, when you're playing those schools in you know your your extra year, you start to get that feeling of championship level ball almost every week when you're playing a team like that, I would assume.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, 100%. That's that's really interesting. So, how old were you when you started playing lacrosse up in Bloomington?

SPEAKER_04

I was in I was in sixth grade. So that's kind of late, right? You know? Yeah, I mean, I feel like everyone out east, and even in Minnesota, they get started pretty young, but I was so I started skating when I was two, so I was hockey all the way. Right. Um, so that was my winter sport, and then I was baseball over the summer. And so I I was driving through my neighborhood, I was in sixth grade on my way home from baseball practice, and my neighbor was outside shooting lacrosse ball into it into the net, playing lacrosse, and I was like, what is that sport? Like, that looks so much fun. Right. So I had my mom drop me off. I ran over there, started playing with them. I was like, This is this is awesome. Next day, went to instant replay, got some used gear, signed up with baseball, and I just started playing in sixth grade. Wow, that's amazing. You just fell in love with it, a little bit faster pace than baseball. Exactly. That was the that was the main reason why is just baseball is a little bit too slow. Um, lacrosse felt more hand in hand with hockey.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, 100%.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I fell in love with it. It was yeah, then just my coach gave me a D pull and stuck with that ever since then. So I've never played it.

SPEAKER_01

That's all there was to it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've never played short stick before.

SPEAKER_00

So that's that's interesting too, because I don't know, maybe that helps too. Like you're just so used that stick becomes that long pole becomes comfortable in your hands right away after a couple years, right? Instead of switching over for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so let's talk about Coach Coach Sullivan. He's uh he's quite the defensive coach. You nailed that was one of my points, too, Danny. Yeah, he's he's a good guy, man. I like Coach Sullivan. We've had him on the program several times, and Coach Clark as well. Coach Clark's an old friend of the program.

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Sometimes he looks into the camera, sometimes he doesn't. It's funny. He's great. He's great. But tell us about you know working with Coach Sullivan. What have you got from him? Tell us what he's instilled into you and kind of the things that have helped you on the lacrosse field there at Tampa.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, he is 100% the best coach I've ever worked with. I mean, I've worked with some amazing coaches. My high school coach in Minnesota was amazing. Um, my coach at West Reserve, Dylan Sheridan, was phenomenal. Um, but in terms of like defense-wise, like I've never worked with a defensive coach that has been just so amazing. Like the attention to detail, he really instills being mentally tough. I think that's the biggest thing that I got um after being here for a couple years. But he cares about us so much. He his whole life is literally just making sure we become better athletes. Like he he loves us, um, definitely puts a lot of pressure on us and he's hard on us, but it only helps. Good coaches should be demanding, right?

SPEAKER_00

And if you if you look at that, even just the start of this year, small sample size, but your defense has kept teams on average below 10 goals, right? Between the three games, 9.3 goals against average is what your defense has those those opposing teams at. How would you describe your defense?

SPEAKER_04

Like, badass. I would say, yeah, I would say just tough. Like, we got we have some dogs on our end, like Harry Bolin, Short 60 D. Middy. Yeah, Sam Corte just came in from St. Joe's. He's a dog. Yeah. Um, Josh Weitzman from High Point. He's an like they're they're super physical. And then we got Jake from Brown, Kevin Stiff. Um I mean, they're just huge. So we play really physical. Uh, we play really fast too. Still room for some growth. I mean, it's early in the season, but yeah, I would say, yeah, just physical and playing fast. That's that's how well coached.

SPEAKER_03

Well coached. You know, I think I I see just things that you guys do on the defensive side. Like in the Florida Tech game, for example, that was a one-goal game with six minutes left in the game. I mean, both I felt that both goalies played really well. I felt that both defenses played really well. But you guys pressed a button at like four at the four-minute mark. You a couple of quick double team slide, boom, ball down, boom, transition goal. You know, and you did it twice in those last four minutes, and he put you up by three and kind of sealed the deal. And I felt that that win was on the defense. Do you would you agree with that?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I agree. I'm sure you would, man. Being a defender, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

We won that game, coach.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. We like to think that. Um, I mean, that was first game. Yeah, it's tough. Like the offense was a little bit slow that game, but I mean, we we got their back, and sometimes we'll have bad games, and our offense has our back.

SPEAKER_03

But hey, Florida Tech played tough, man. Don't you know?

SPEAKER_04

They're they give them credit, better. They were a completely different team from last year. Yeah, they're athletic, they got some nice size to them. They're physical, yeah. They they play they play good that game. But yeah, like you said, it was tie game for it was close game for a long time. Then it was a one-goal game the whole basically the whole it was two two with half. Yeah, crazy. So, yeah, we we had a couple big plays. Our our whole goal on defense is to get up and out. Like we make a stop, get up and out, try to score in you know, seven seconds. So that helps us. Like when we make a stop, we're going. And I think pushing and transition um helps up our offense a ton with just more confidence. And so it's just trying to speed up the game is something that we do really well at. And if you put teams in those positions where they can't really, I guess, handle the handle the speed, then it benefits us.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right, right, right. That Newberry game was kind of cold, huh? Yeah, did it remind you of Bloomington a little bit? Yeah, a little bit, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That was like that was like an average March, like late March game in Minnesota.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right, exactly. Yeah, yeah. It was I woke up that morning watching again.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, Yeah, and in Minnesota in late March, you're feeling like it's warm.

SPEAKER_04

Exactly. Yeah, like that day would have been a perfect day in uh in Minnesota in the spring.

SPEAKER_03

So I've got I I've gotten to watch all three games because basically a lot of games have been canceled and you know, and and and postponed and stuff. So, but you guys have been playing in the south a little bit. So I got to watch all three Tampas games, man. The defense looks dynamite, man. It really does. Coach Sullivan does a crazy good job there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he he's amazing. Um, just the level of discipline that he instills, like he harps on that every single day. We do we watch so much film on our practices, our games, every little detail, like every approach, every every dodge. And so just going over those mistakes that we make in practice and games, it it helps. Like it translates and makes us better players. And for him to just coach us that way is I'm so thankful and lucky to be coached by him. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I was down at Tampa last year for the Wingate NCAA game, and it was my first time on the campus. I've been to Tampa before, but I hadn't been there in about probably like 15 years. Man, Tampa got big. It got really big. There's a lot of people there now. So Coach Sullivan's got a little more to worry about because there's so much going on. You got Gasparilla, you got Ibor City, got a lot going on. You got a lot going on in Tampa. So um, you got Flagler next. And Flagler's, you know, an up-and-coming team, fast athletic. What are you guys gonna travel out to uh St. Augustine?

SPEAKER_04

We are, yeah. We're making the trip out Friday after practice. We're spending the night, and then we got them on Saturday at one. So yeah, it's uh it's gonna be a big week. Got to prepare the right way. Um, we're excited. We can't wait to go out there and play them. They're they're a fun team, they're they're good. They get a lot better every single year. I mean, what they've done in the past yeah, what are they four or five years old now? Is this their fifth year?

SPEAKER_03

This might be the fifth year.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very impressive. I mean, they're real really well coached.

SPEAKER_03

That's a million players, so it'll be a good game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely. Kev, what else you got? Got anything?

SPEAKER_00

Uh well, I think, you know, we've we've sung Gordy's accolades enough, and now it's time to test him in the firing round. You think so? I did.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Week number three, our player spotlight. We have none other, ladies and gentlemen, the Mr. Gordy Gumball, the defenseman out of Tampa, the Tampa Spartans man, Bloomington, Minnesota kid, Jefferson High School. To date, my friend, guess how many ground balls you have? Oof. 120. Uh-oh. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Really?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's pretty good, man. I didn't I didn't know that, actually. That's pretty good. How many cause turnovers do you think you got? To date. 56? Uh, about 46, pretty close. 46. And how many career goals do you have? Two. I have four, I think. It says here. You might be wrong.

SPEAKER_04

I had Tampa, and I know I have two at Tampa.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, okay, great. Career, maybe, yeah. All right, man. Thank you so much. We're gonna throw a bunch of questions at you. Give you your best answer as fast as you can. You ready to rock it? Let's do it. Number one, mom's best meal. Ooh, I'm gonna have to go flame and young. Flaming young. She loves the filet. That sounds good. Question two: Xbox or PlayStation?

SPEAKER_04

Xbox, all the way.

SPEAKER_03

He was quick at that. Number three, favorite type of music. Ooh. I'm gonna have to go country. I'm gonna go country. All right. Well, so you're at karaoke, the girls are out, the boys are out, you're having a good time. What's your go-to karaoke song?

SPEAKER_04

Ooh. I'm gonna have to go with wagon wheel or chicken fried.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, good man. Those are fun karaoke songs. Good choices, good choices. You know what my karaoke song is? Taking care of business every day. I get them rocking. I get them rocking. Alright, number four. Any pregame rituals?

SPEAKER_04

Just gotta eat as much as I can before I get to the facility, and that's about it. Okay, morning bird or night owl.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh. I'd say I'm more of a night person for sure. What's your go-to uh midnight snack?

SPEAKER_04

Cinnamon raisin bagel. Or peanut butter on it.

SPEAKER_03

Either or cinnamon four of them a week, probably.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Cinnamon raisin bagels of butter and jelly, toasted, well toasted.

SPEAKER_04

Nothing better. I had one tonight. They're all tonight.

SPEAKER_03

So do you have any game day superstitions, like some stinky socks or like a an old jock strap from middle school that you wear on game days? No.

SPEAKER_04

Honestly, no. I I would say the only thing is I just retape my stick for every game.

SPEAKER_03

There you go.

SPEAKER_04

Um yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So you said you like to eat something good on game day. What's your favorite hearty, good, hearty breakfast?

SPEAKER_04

I'll go five eggs. Wow. Sourdough toast with either butter or peanut butter on it, and then um I'll do yogurt. I like oikos. Okay. All right. Yeah, that's about it. And then if I have some fruit in the fridge, I'll have some fruit, but yeah. Um I love eggs. I have the same breakfast every morning. Five eggs, toast, and a yogurt.

SPEAKER_03

Excellent, man. Excellent. Yeah. What was your favorite cartoon as a kid? Phineas and Ferb. Phineas and Ferb. That was a good one. My son used to watch that too.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Netflix or ESPN?

SPEAKER_04

Netflix. Netflix, all right. That could be a hot that could be a hot take. I love checking scores on ESPN, but I like to watch I like to watch shows and movies.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, cool. You know, JB can be kind of very secretive and stuff like that with things, but you let us know who's the funniest kid on the team.

SPEAKER_04

Funniest kid on the team. Ooh. I might have to go with Jordan Naso. Okay. He's a he's a face off, face out. Yeah. He's he's hilarious. Or Connor McGunnah. Those two are those two are the, in my opinion, the two funniest.

SPEAKER_03

What do they do? That's so funny. I mean, Jordan Naso. One liners are just, you know, just crazy stuff.

SPEAKER_04

One-liners, they're always saying something, and like they they're not looking for attention when they say it. Like, you know what I mean? They say something and they don't look around looking to make sure people laugh. Like they they say that everyone just loves it.

SPEAKER_03

That's cool. All right. Which teammate would be voted best ladies man? You look like that could be you, kid.

SPEAKER_04

You have to you have to ask the team that one. Oh best ladies man. I'm gonna have to give it to uh he's got a girlfriend, but he's just an all-around great guy. I'm gonna have to go with Rex Kesselring. He's my roommate. All right, yeah, just a super outgoing guy, very talkative, super nice. Um and a damn good lacrosse player, too. Really good lacrosse player.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, he's tearing it up. Yeah, man. Which team teammate would be voted most athletic if Gordy Gumbold had to choose? Harry Bowland. Harry Bowland. He's like one of those guys that could just do anything.

SPEAKER_04

Yep. Number six, D mid. He played football, D1 football before he came here. Walked on the team. He played at Monmouth. Monmouth? Mm-hmm. And then came to Tampa, he walked on to the lacrosse team. Now he's our starting D mid. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

All right. Uh, what's your best lacrosse memory so far at Tampa?

SPEAKER_04

Playing in the national championship.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, pretty pretty great game.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, obviously, didn't go the way we wanted to, it was a heartbreak, but just could win either way, kid. It was one of those games. Yeah, but the stadium, it was just the experience was just unreal. I mean, yeah, that's something I'll never forget for sure. It was it was special.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sure it was. Uh give us your best impression of coach after a good practice. Which coach? JB.

SPEAKER_04

Man, you guys hustle, you played good. You know, we got flagler this weekend, so let's take care of our bodies, rest up, and uh see you tomorrow.

SPEAKER_03

Love it, man. Love it. That was the best coach's impression we've had in a long time, Cordy. Okay. All right, let me ask you this. We'll get off the lacrosse thing a little bit and talk about school. What was the most interesting class you've had so far since you've been at Tampa?

SPEAKER_04

I would say the one I'm in right now, it's uh business statistics. Oh, statistics. I didn't know my god. It's a tough class, but just being like it's it's honestly pretty cool because the whole thing's on Excel. Okay. It's uh you get to learn Excel, and I mean some of the stuff I've just never even like it's all new to me. So I think it's pretty interesting.

SPEAKER_03

But we didn't have that. We didn't have the computers when I went to college. Statistics was like, I alright, drop, we gotta drop this class.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I I couldn't imagine, I couldn't imagine doing that class on pen and paper.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, our last question, Gordy. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

SPEAKER_04

Uh, I'm I'm looking to get into sales actually right now. So hopefully I would love to own my own own my own company, do sales. I'm looking at getting into med device sales right now, so it'd be cool to get my foot in the door, work, and then uh start my own company doing that.

SPEAKER_03

That's great, man. Well, we appreciate it. That's the end of the that's the end of the firing round. You did a fantastic job. Jordan Gumbold, our man, all the way from Tampa from Bloomington, Minnesota. Dude, you are a great guest tonight. We really appreciate you having on. Yeah, thank you guys so much.

SPEAKER_04

Shout outs

SPEAKER_00

Danny. I was amazed at how humble Gordy Gombold is. Yeah, he's a good kid, huh? What a good kid. You almost imagine him when you start talking to him. You say, that kid's from the Midwest. He's from Minnesota. I mean, he was so down to earth. He was so humble in talking about himself. We've had plenty of other players be the same way. I'm not saying that, but it was just kind of struck me that he was in awe of so many other players on his team and not realizing what a linchpin he is.

SPEAKER_03

Well, first of all, he got a shout out to his mother and father because what an outstanding they job they did at raising that son of theirs. Because I was I came away very impressed tonight with speaking with Gordy. Just he's a he's a dog on the field, Kev, you know? And and just getting to know him in the you know 15, 20 short minutes tonight we had with him. I I really enjoyed him. I thought he was really good, very poignant, very well spoken, articulate, just just you know, genuinely humble smile. You know, when he smiled, it was a genuine smile, you know. I just man, Coach Sullivan and Coach Clark got a uh a gold star when they got him, man. He's yeah, what a good, good kid. And I was so happy he came on tonight. And he seemed very excited to be on, which was cool. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know why, but he was. Yeah, yeah. So he's good. Now it's time to move on to shout-outs. I've got two Shout out. So let me start with one, and that is a shout out to Ryan Bitterman of Anderson, who reached the hundred career goal mark this past week.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Ryan. Good job, buddy. That's not an easy task.

SPEAKER_00

Good job. Congratulations. My second and last one, you've already said it, but I feel it needs another shout-out, and that goes out to Emory Henry with their first win in program history. Congrats to the Wasps.

SPEAKER_03

Good job, Emory and Henry. First of many, I'm sure. Okay. All right. I have two quick shout-outs. My first shout out is to Wingate attackman, Sean Clark, fastest Wingate Bulldog to 100 goals passed with six goals on this first game last week. So congratulations, Clarkey. We love you here at In the Crease. You did a great job. You played really well. And my last shout-out goes to the two gentlemen from Florida Southern University that I met at the Wingate game on Saturday. First of all, it was 28 degrees with a 20 mile an hour win. It was just downright bitter cold in North Carolina this weekend. And uh met two guys from Florida Southern. Their kids were on the team. I'm sorry, fellas, I just can't remember your names right now. But you guys know who you are. We had a nice conversation talking about uh in the Creese podcast and how much they appreciate us and they listen, you know, every Thursday. They wait till Thursday morning. Uh and it was just a great conversation to so there's a good shout out to the Florida Southern dads and the Florida Southern parents, they were really, really good the other day, and it was a it was a great day at Wingate. And shout out to you guys. Good job, fellas. It was nice meeting you guys. I love it.

SPEAKER_00

I love it, Danny. I've got one more, I just thought of one more shout out. You talked about that with the those players from Florida Southern. I'm gonna shout out, and I can't do them all by name because we've had several the past few weeks, with our new website, www.inthecrease lacrosse pod dot com.
