I'm telling you, this week, Danny, I don't know if it was parody. I mean, it wasn't all upsets, but there was a lot of games that you ended up differently than I thought they would. Either they were closer or the other team won, or it was just crazy weak.

We got some weirdness going on, we got some weird stuff going on in Division II right now. Crazy upsets, teams getting into the top 20 that we never expected like that. Some huge crazy games.

It was just a crazy week in Division II. And you know what? Division two is not starting out kind of the way I kind of thought it would be. You know, like right now, I'm looking in the South, right? I'm looking in the South. And, you know, Tampa's winning, but they're hanging on. They're not looking fantastic. They're not looking like this great, like they're not dominant. Yeah, you know, and then LR's not looking that great yet. Uh Wingate's not looking that great yet. And and then Florida Tech, who struggled last year, is looking phenomenal this year.

Right now, you know, Anderson really hasn't played anybody. Emory Riddle's making noise a little bit. Lees is making a little bit of noise, a couple of one goal losses. You know, they're they're in the games now.

So they beat Dominican and they beat Concordia, and I would have said they would have gone one-on-one split. So, like you just there's it's a clarity.

Like I don't know if there's anything from Lees McCrae that's going to surprise me right now. I mean, it's just I'm so intrigued with that team. Again, a couple of one goal losses, they're in games, and then they beat the snot out of a couple of teams.

And it's funny, Danny, not only that, like I guess I can't expect any surprises, especially in the South right now. The North is really just getting started, the North Region, so we'll see how that pans out. But there has been a lot of games that just made my head scratch when thinking about how they ended up. And you it's not like you can say, oh, like, oh well, one team just played horrendous and the other team just, you know, they weren't on their game. Yes, there were times when some of some of those teams you'd expect to win weren't on their game, but there are a lot of things the other teams were doing that created that win for them. So it's just been it's been fascinating to watch.

Southern New Hampshire has just been a complete, total shocker, you know, and Florida Tech over the wing gate was a big game, man. Yeah, definitely. They look good.

I tell you, you know what? I said after watching them play Tampa, I said I was very impressed with their defense and the way their defense played. They're big, Kevin. They're big boys out there, and they're strong and they're fast and they slide, they recover quick. Florida Tech's a good team, man. And then they're gonna play North Greenville this week. And I'll tell you, if they beat North Greenville, I think Florida Tech's a team to watch out for, guys, in the South now.

Well, I think they're a team to watch out for now, but I think you're right. I think that next win really, like we talked about, legitimizes them. They are they are one of the front runners. You never know how the rest of the season goes. I mean, they've got to go through the rest of the Sunshine State. But they are a totally different level.

So, I mean, there's yeah, there's some things they have to do. So all right, before we move on to the top ten, we got a little fan mail and a quick clarification from a fan in Denver, Colorado. He let us know that Catabas Staten Rare and Boston Rare are brothers. And I I emphasize Staten because we said Stratton, and he actually said that that happens a lot. So it is just Staten, like Staten Island, which you've been to many times.

Okay, Kev, this week's top 10 countdown. Number one, Adelphi had two games this week. They beat Walsh 21-5, and they beat Frostburg. What was the score of that game? The Frostburg game? 18-7, I think. Something like that.

Yeah, uh Braden Dunellen just going off in that first game. Two goals, six assists, and uh Noah Gibson had a couple of goals, four goals in that game. Number two, Tampa hangs on again to beat Flagler. Eight to seven, Kev in Flagler. Uh up in St. Augustine. Jackson Bashaw had four ground balls, one assist, and he accounted for five of Tampa's eight points that game. So he had himself a game, yeah. Uh number three, St. A's, still hasn't played yet. We're still waiting to see them play. Can't wait. Number four, Wingate Bulldogs lost to number 19, Florida Tech, 10-9 in overtime. Four goals for Vinny Batrico in the loss, and Wingate plays Adelphi next. Number five, Meryville, huge over Thomas More, 27-2. Caden Barnes in goal was 83% and only led up one goal. Pretty darn good. Yeah. Number six, Seton Hill beat number 10, Lewis in a close one, 11-7. Dexter Hannigan had himself a day. We'll talk about that in the games to watch. Anderson, big over Emory Riddle. 18-9. Raiden but drawn two goals, five assists for seven points in the game. Anderson looks pretty good so far.

Everybody base yourself for a strong fourth quarter from Anderson. It seems like that that's when they like to start lighting things up. Yeah, yeah. Number eight, LR, having a little problems in that new chemistry going on there with the defense, but they hang on over Rollins in one of those OT games we talked about. 13-12. Donnie Powell finally got going. Four goals and one assist in that one. Pace, number nine, pace. They didn't play, but they play Malloy this weekend, Kev. And I think I'm talking about that. I'm going to go to that game, I think. It's supposed to be nice this weekend. I don't like sitting in the cold. You know, I'm an old man. Get off my lawn, goddammit. I'm an old man. I don't like sitting in the cold no more. Number 10, Lewis, lost to number six, Seaton Hill 11-7. And that's your top 10 countdown, week two. Just a couple of quick scores to note, Kev. AIC beat Caldwell 13-5. Yeah. And our boy, Jordan Boyanko, five goals in that game. He had a good game.

Alabama Huntsville beats Lees McCrae. Gets killed by CUI. Alabama Huntsville, I mean, Lees McCrae then beats Concordia at the University of Irvine.

Yeah. Yeah. Tonya Lee's is going on. What is going on? It's chaotic. It's weird science, I tell you. It's weird science. Again, the Florida Tech over Wingate was quite the game, 10-9 and overtime. We really didn't talk of that. Wasn't in our games to watch last week, and neither was the Southern New Hampshire upset over Malloy 10-8. Kev, I know you watched that game. Let's talk about it.

That's a couple of just scores to note. I've got, oh, you're going to talk about Catawa over Belmont Abbey. So that was another good game. St. Leo continues to roll. They beat Florida Southern 13-9. And then Point Park coming close in their first game against Duville. They lose, but it was 12-11. Lost by one. One. Playing at home. I saw some film from it. Looked pretty good.

Yeah, Pittsburgh in the background, all the all the all the look kind of cool. You know what? And you know what? For them to put up 11 goals, too. I mean, that shows a lot as well, you know?

Week in Review

All right, so let's move on to our week in review. Let's start off with the Friday game. St. Michael's at Frostburg. Remember, we talked about this. This is two teams that probably a little bit of subpar where they've been in the past last season looking to come back. St. Mike's pulls it out 11-9. This is what I wrote, Danny. Bodies were flying early. This was a scrappy, scrappy game. And I don't mean that from like it. Bodies are just people were all over the place trying to get ground balls. Sometimes the ground balls seemed like they lasted for two minutes as these guys are hacking away, checking, trying to get that ball. I mean, they were really going after it.

It was a good game, man. I thought it was a really good game. It was anybody's game, really, the whole game. I mean, it was I thought it was it was like really evenly matched, I thought, as far as like uh depth, athleticism, uh, you know, talent on the field. It couldn't have been more even. I mean, when you look at some of the uh some of the uh like the shots were even. They both had 36 shots. Yeah. You know, it's crazy. But the Purple Knights did pull it out. Um uh Frostberg drew first blood on a nice little two-man from left wing, allowing senior Graham Allison to bury one. St. Mike's answered right away when Sean Murphy buried one. A well-played, even first quarter saw both teams nodded at two after one. Just a well-played feel-emout, goal-to-goal type first quarter. Just, you know, just good lacrosse play. I really, you know, not a lot of possession time favorite St.

Mike's in that first quarter, but you're right. I mean, it still was feeling out, and there was no clear dominant team except from a possession time. You see what I'm saying? So the defense was pressing out and not giving uh St. Mike's a chance to shoot.

Yeah, a little aggressive, that's for sure. And second quarter, St. Mike's took a one-goal lead when Chris Davis scored on a man up. A couple of turnovers as both defenses kind of started to amp things up a little bit in that second quarter. Uh um St. Mike's buried two more before Ethan Drake answered for the Bobcats. Each team traded goals again, and an excellent first half, Kev, came to an end with it all tied up at six. The Bobcats scored three goals in the last 90 seconds of that half to tie it. So, I mean, I St. Mike's went up a couple of goals and then a couple of defenses, some turnovers, some getting after it, and then bang, bang, bang.

It almost felt at the end of that quarter that like Frostburg woke up. Do you know what I'm saying? Not that they weren't awake, but it just the way they they strung those together so quickly.

Yeah, all right. After the half, the third quarter, St. Mike's and Frostburg both scored early in the frame when St. Mike took a three-goal lead on Zeke Peraz's goal, and St. Mike's led 10-7 after three. Yeah. In the fourth, Frostburg came back to within one on a man-up goal by Sean Mullenau, and it was 10-9 St. Mike's with nine minutes left, Kev. St. Mike's made it 11-9 with 4-30, and then St. Mike's threw the ball away with three minutes left, and the Bobcats had two shots on goal. But goalie Mike Nelson made two really nice saves, sealing the win for St. Mike's. He had seven saves in that quarter, and St. Mike's holds on to win a two-goal game, 11-9, and a really kind of well-played, kind of fun game to watch.

Yeah, it was. It was fun. It looked cold in good old Frostburg. Yeah, let's go. Let's snow around the around the end. But no, it was a fun game. And St. Mike's, some of their plays, Zeke Peraza with three goals. Ethan Drake and Sean Murphy both had two goals and one assist. Chris Davis, Mason Buckley, and Owen Belfour each had one goal and one assist. Frostburg Haynesilio had three goals, one assist. Graham Allison had two goals, and Sean Milano, one goal and one assist.

Yeah, yeah. Tyron Long had three ground balls. Jack Smith was in goal. Uh shots were even 36 to 36. Uh turnovers, St. Mike's had 21. Frostburg had 15 caused turnovers. Frostburg State had 17 caused turnovers.

Ground balls were basically even, 34 for St. Mike's, 35 for Frostburg, and EMOs were kind of even. One for five for St. Mike's and one for six for Frostburg. So uh St. Mike's goes to one and oh, the Purple Knights, and uh that was a good that was a fun game to watch.

Very fun game, very fun game. All right, let's move. Let me talk about Malloy, Southern New Hampshire. I know you didn't get a chance to watch it, but we'll talk about that one and go to a few other games. This game is interesting, Danny. First of all, another game that looked really cold. It was snowing there in Southern New Hampshire for part of it. Southern New Hampshire pulls it out 10-8. This was a m in my opinion, was a very methodical game. I felt until I looked at the team stats that Southern New Hampshire controlled the game the whole way through. If you look at the scoring, it was 3-2 after 1, Southern New Hampshire, 6-4 at half, and then 8-6 after 3. And so they always had like that two-goal lead that Malloy was trying to catch up to. Right? And then they got a three-goal lead, and they'd have to, and Malloy would have to try to come back. It just seemed like I mean both teams made mistakes. It was it was early games, but it just seemed like they because of the score, Southern New Hampshire always seemed to have control. Until you look at the team stats. And it's one of those games where the loser won all the stats. Malloy had 46 shots to Southern New Hampshire's 22. Shots on goal, 26 for Malloy, 15 for Southern New Hampshire, turnovers, 23 for Southern New Hampshire and only 16 for Malloy. Faceoffs, Malloy doubled Southern New Hampshire 14 to 7. Ground balls, Malloy had 26, Southern New Hampshire had 15. And then penalties, Malloy had four, but Southern New Hampshire had seven. But the only difference, the only one that Malloy the Southern New Hampshire won out in was in saves. Southern New Hampshire goalie, Matt Roy had 18 saves to Malloy's five. There you go, there's your difference. That's a huge, huge difference. And you know what's funny? When I was watching the game, I saw Matt make some great saves, and I'm like, wow, that was a good save. Wow, that was a good save. But I never saw it from the perspective of oh man, there's another turnover by Southern New Hampshire. Oh, there's another ground ball by Malloy. It just didn't look it maybe because it was that methodical pace, right? It didn't look chaotic. It looked like it was a six-on-six game. Not a lot of goals scored on transition, not a lot of they would try to push when they could, but defenses would get back, so then they'd play settled, settled offense, right? Yep, yep, yep. Here's the interesting thing about this game, Danny, and I don't think it's what why Malloy lost the game, but I've never seen a game end like this. The penmen, they they're they're riding and their DA was able to style stymie Malloy and they hand back the ball to offense to try to dwindle the clock clock as they're running down and they're trying to clear it. Malloy gets called for a tripping call. Which, if you ask me, and I looked at it, I thought it was kind of a bogus call. Like, yeah, the Malloy player ran into the to the the Southern New Hampshire player, but it didn't look like a trip. It looked like it looked like they just got caught up, right? It wasn't like so, but it gets called for that. Coach Dunn gets comes on in the field and starts arguing. So Malloy got got called on the Malloy gets called for it. Oh, okay, okay. So now they're gonna be man down when you know they were hoping, you know, there was still some there's some two minutes left, right? So they're man down, and and so they're trying to and and Coach Dunn didn't like that call. The ref tries to say, get back in your box, get back in your box. Coach Dunn doesn't do it. He gets called for unsportsman-like.

And then they get called for another unsportsman like, which I never saw, but they get two penalties for that, and then they finally got another penalty at a defender gets called. I thought it was a cross check. I think the the the I didn't see what the ref was calling, but the announcer said it was another unsportsman like. There were five Malloy players in the box at One time.

Hold on. Hold on. The guy gets called for tripping. That's one. Okay. That's one in the box. Dunn gets called for unsportsman-like conduct. That's the second in the box. They get a third unsportsman.

They had three unsportsman-like conduct. So maybe there was four in the box. I thought I counted five. But if you go by penalties, there's four in the sport.

And then the kid with the cross check, there's four in the box. Oh my god. I don't think I've ever seen that.

So it was six against two.

Yeah. Yeah. And it didn't last long. I think that was, I mean, that happened over, it wasn't over, you know, five seconds. Okay. The first three were over about five seconds. The last one was there, it was probably 30, 40 seconds. They got back in. They actually, here's what's interesting. The Penman were able, they didn't try to shoot. They were draining the clock. That's all they're trying to do because they're up by three at that point. It's 10-7. It goes back to even strength with 29 seconds left, and Malloy scores one to make it 10-8. So and then they they won the face-off. They basically ran out, could run out the clock. I think Malloy had a shot to do it, but it's 10-8. They weren't going to do it. Like I said, it was 10-7 when those penalties started to happen, like two minutes left. It wasn't, I felt like there was it would be very tough for Malloy to get three goals. Not that they couldn't, but it would have been very tough. Very strange way for the game to end.

Well, it's interesting because tonight we have a player from St. Uh Southern New Hampshire on our program tonight, which is kind of pretty cool. Um and I think the fact that Southern New Hampshire beat the way they did, and you know what? I was looking just looking at some of the numbers for Southern New Hampshire because it was such a shocker to me. I was blown away by that score when I read it. And uh, you know, Southern New Hampshire has added like about 15 guys to their roster. Their roster is seriously bigger than it was last year. So maybe here we go, Southern Penman making a little run up in the NE-10 now.

Well, and I'll tell you, they we talk, I talked about this when we did the conference preview. I really think they were going to be a different team this year. They've got players that you could have imagined, like Aiden Blue and he had two goals, one assist, Sean Dwyer, one goal, three assists. But there was a redshirt freshman attackman, Joey Gallo, four goals, two assists on this game. He's been playing well. Yeah. And then Matt Roy with 18 saves. Now, Malloy, they had Noah Hammond and Jake Taylor, both had two goals, one assist. Zach Krug had two goals, and Tommy Corcoran had two assists. And then they actually on the on the face-off side, Brandon Panzienza had went 14 for 20. So they had some some guys you figured, Krug, Taylor, Hammond, Noah Hammond coming over from Chestnut Hill that did a good job. It wasn't like it was a blowout game, but it never felt like it always felt like Southern New Hampshire had control.

My man Matt Magyar had himself a day, Kev. Yeah. I was so very happy for him. Hey, this is another fun game to watch. Each team, really even as far as I was concerned. Talent, depth, athleticism, a really good first quarter with each squad just feeling each other out like, you know, first game kind of jitters for both. But uh Dean Knott got the uh Mavs on the board first, but the Greyhounds, Patrick McGrath, answered right away when he buried a biscuit. A minute later, um, each team traded goals, and then the Mavs, Matt Magyar, got his first of the day uh to bring the Mavs to within one, and the Greyhounds led 3-2 after one. Um the second quarter, the Mavs shot out and went on a four-goal explosion, Kev, before Assumption's Max Loenberg buried one. Magyar had the hot stick, scored three goals in the frame. Uh, but Assumption just kept grinding, Kev.

Yeah, this is a game of runs. That started right with Mercy in the second quarter, and then Assumption turned it around.

It just kept grinding, you know. They just kept grinding Pat Johnson, Brian Short, and then Boomer starting all buried biscuits. And um still at halftime, the Mavs led 7-4. The third quarter, three quick scores by the Greyhounds, tied it up at seven. So now we got ourselves a game, right? Magyar scored yet again for the Mavs, and each team traded goals, basically, Kev, for the rest of the game. They just traded goals back and forth. There were four ties and four lead changes in this game, which I love that kind of stuff. Jack Wilson buried one and assumption led by one. Ben McHugh added one and assumption led by two with eight minutes left. Then the Mavs, Cold Huntsberger, scored with a minute on at the minute and 43 mark to bring the Mavs to within one. And then Jake Norton tied the game at 12 when he scored with 25 seconds left in the game, Kev. Yeah. In the OT, Mercy won the face-off, but turned the ball over. Assumption set up their offense, and the Greyhounds, Boomer Staunton, took a shot and it went wide, but they lost possession on the shot.

The Mavs got it back, and Jack Agris buried the game winner for the Mavs. This was a great, fun, exciting game to watch. It really was. And uh Mercy goes to 1-0 and uh 13-12 in overtime. And like I said, Matt Maggior had himself a day. Cam Dorfman in goal. I mean, I like I liked what Mercy did. I thought they looked pretty good out there. And I thought Assumption looked very good too.

It was funny, Danny. I said his game of runs when you know Mercy went on that five to one run in the second. And I actually thought, like, oh my gosh, Mercy looks really good. I don't Assumption's not keeping up. And then Assumption goes on that five-goal run, and they take the lead by two. And then it was like two goals to go up, two goals to go up. It was it was just back and forth that that last those are fun games.

Those are fun games to watch. Yeah, you know, it was exciting. And and and again, for uh Mercy, Matt Magyar, the man, six goals, three ground balls, one close turnover in his very first game for the Mavs uh from Mercy coming over from Wingate. Three years at Wingate. I don't think he's got six goals. And I think he had six goals in his first game from Mercy. So I was very happy for him. Uh both goalies were making early saves, and and it was a good five minutes, Kev, before Staten Rare got the Indians on the board, and Tanner Stout added one more for Catawba before Nate Lorenzo finally buried one for the Crusaders, and it was 2-1 Indians after one. Nice good first quarter. Second quarter, Colby Dobbins buried one on a man up, and each team traded goals, Kev, and a nice goal by Peyton Turner with 35 seconds left in the quarter, gave the Indians a 5-4 lead at half. So this was just kind of possession for possession, you know, and you know, it was one of those games. Uh in uh third, third, uh Barrett replaced the goalie, Eddie Kielkoff. And he put in Finn Zybreth. And Katama scored three goals in three minutes. So you know what Barrett did? He pulled Zybraith out and put Kielkorf back in. I think Zybrath took, I think he was in there for like two minutes and 42 seconds or something like that. But uh, yeah, he didn't do too good. Um uh two goals by Turner and one by Simi in those 90 seconds, and uh back when in Kilkorf in goal for the Crusaders. Turner added yet another goal, and Cotabba led 9-4, Kev. Then it was Belmont Abbey's turn to go on a little run, scoring five consecutive goals by Simi, Lorenzo, two by Bashi, and the Crusaders were back in the game down by one. Some good back and forth lacrosse, Kev. Yeah, and then and then Peyton Turner buried another biscuit, and the Indians led 11-9 after three. Wow. Again, so now in the fourth quarter, each team's playing fast now. Like the the pace of the game is moving. It's getting better and better. You know, it's just the game is getting more exciting as the minutes went by. A couple of turnovers from some good checks on both sides now. Defense is getting amped up and getting into it, ball on the ground, guys scraping for ground balls, and uh Boshi scored one for Belmont Abbey, and we were tied, Kev, at 12 with six minutes left in the game. Wow. Tanner Stout was able to get one pass Kielkoff, 13-12, and then Jacob Chandler had a chance to tie it at the end, but he hit the post, and Kotava wounds up winning and hanging on 13-12 and an exciting, sighting South Region uh lacrosse match.

I I watched this game, and La Crosse Reference did a post-game kind of recap of the percentages, and it started off, but La Crosse Reference noted that this was like a business like win for Southern New Hampshire. Business-like win for Seaton Hill. And I totally agree. It was not an overwhelming win, but it was steady. Right? They just kept they just outplayed Lewis enough. And they they just took care of business. I think they also had great ball movement. Seton Hill like skip passes, cuts, dodges to get two, and then the pass. It was just a great job. I think anytime Lewis made a move, the Griffins had a counter move.

Yeah. Seton Hill's good, man. They're just a good team. I felt that the game in the beginning was kind of chaotic. It was like fast-paced, almost too fast-paced in the very beginning. And then they kind of settled down a little bit.

And then he scored. Then Kaczynski scored, and uh Lewis led 3-2 after one.

Yeah, you know what? Lewis turned the ball over a couple of times in the second quarter, too. And Caden Grenberg scored on one of those turnovers when he intercepted this pass. I don't know if you saw that play. He intercepted the pass. He split two defenders, and then he spun around a third defender and then bounce-shot it in. That was some play by Grandison. And it was off a turnover, you know. So, you know, Lewis, as good as you are, you can't turn the ball over against teams like Seton Hill like that, you know, at midfield. You know, those costly mistakes, a team like Seton Hill is going to pound on that. And I think that was the kind of the difference between the game, just a couple of costly turnovers by Lewis.

Yeah. You know, near the end, it was they were just trading goals, but by that point, Seton Hill had had made their mark. And I just think you're right. Maybe it was just a little bit less uh mistakes on Seton Hill versus Lewis. The stats were pretty even except for ground balls. Seton Hill had 24 to Lewis's 15. Seton Hill had more turnovers and penalties six, which I think they're gonna want to clean up, but Lewis couldn't capitalize on those penalties. They only went one for six and man up.

So I think that was the difference in the game. I really do. I mean, it was 3-2 Lewis after one, but they they Seton Hill outscored him 5-0 in the second quarter. That's that was big. That was a difference in the game, and that came down to turnovers. So I think uh Seton Hill's gonna be a good team. I think Lewis is gonna be a good team. I kind of thought I I don't know. I I think I was hoping for a little more I don't know, out of Lewis.

I thought I thought the game would be closer than it was. Now, 11-7 in a lacrosse game, that's not a huge blowout in what what whatever fashion. I just thought that in fact I picked Lewis. Last week I said Lewis would win. Yeah, yeah. And I did a move on the Lewis has had several games under the belt. Seton Hill hasn't. I'll liken it to Tampa to Tampa going up to Lenore Ryan, same sort of thing. Right. Seton Hill took care of business. And look at we've when we did their preview in the G Mac, I kind of said there were some questions on some some people they had a uh they had some gaps in offense right from losing. They had some great players, right? Wade Burnell, who did not play, Nate Herbster, they had some guys that were really good. Then you get this freshman, Dexter Hannigan. Yeah, man. Scored five goals at attack. On eight shots. He comes from Calgary. That's from our Canadian source that gives us all the Canadian. I don't know. I don't like that, but he's from Calgary. Okay. Yeah, then Nate Herbster, who we know, three goals, one assist. You expect that. Kane Granberg, one goal, two assists. And then Will Cody. He had 12 saves, seven goals against that's 63%. I mean, just 63% is very, very good. We've seen some it's funny, we've seen some day a couple days. Oh, 100%. 100%. I'll take that all day. Just business like. They came out to do their business and they won.

After Florida Tech pulled off that upset against Wingate, and after watching them against Tampa, and after watching them against Rollins, I want to watch them against North Greenville. North Greenville missing a little bit on offense maybe this year, missing Hayden Moffat a little bit, I think. But if if Florida Tech can beat North Greenville and beat them up like beat them well, Florida Tech's gonna be a team to watch out for in the South. So I'm interested to see how they play against this team.

I agree. It was a huge win for Florida Tech against Wingate, right? Put them up at number nine. Is this a trap game for them? Are they gonna be ready? North Greenville stumbled and lost to Montevallo. They had a really, really good game against Anderson until Anderson poured it on in the fourth quarter. So North Greenville is a good team. Yeah. Yeah, they're very good. I agree. But now if it's a close game, look at Florida Tech. If Florida Tech wins Barnun, I don't even say if it's a close game. If they beat him up, then maybe it shows even more. But Florida Tech, I think, is a team to watch for the rest of the season in the South region. It reminds me of Florida Southern like two or three years ago, where they just beat up on teams that you didn't expect them to beat up on teams that were. And they went down to the wire all the way to trying to make it to the NCAAs. That's a great pick. What do you like? Oh. You know what? I'm going Florida Tech.

And I took two gap years because the the recruiting process took a little longer for me from coming from Germany. So um I I couldn't find a school right away. And then um yeah, I ended up at SNO after after smoking for for two years, which I'm really excited about.

So you were you were in your did your freshman year at Southern New Hampshire last year, but couldn't play because of that school. So you were like chomping at the bit as a freshman going into sophomore year, probably pulling your hair out.

I was ready, I was excited. I couldn't wait. It was it was rough. My first thing was really rough watching the guys play, and I couldn't, I couldn't help them, but um, now we're here.

Yeah, that's awesome. So when did you start playing in Germany? At what age?

Um I think I'm I was probably like 15, 16 years old. So that's late, you know.

Like uh to be honest, I could good um my first practice. We didn't even play lacrosse. We played um, I think like lacrosse baseball and soccer, I guess, because uh I was right up in the U 16 German championship. So um they had a practice off and it was just having fun. And I I just loved the guys there, I loved the coaches, and then I I was I was playing U 16 for one year, and then we didn't really have a um youth. Uh we have only uh U 16 and MANS, so I trans uh transitioned to MENS the year after, and then I was I just wanted to get better, and it was awesome. I I just lost it there, and then I lost the the game, and um yeah, I I hit the wall a good good amount of time, I would say.

So so two years ago, we had another citizen of Frankfurt, Germany, a player at Dominican Penguins, Pear Anders Alters. Yes. You know him.

Uh he's a good friend of mine. We played um he played in Frankfurt, we just missed each other. So when I started playing lacrosse, he was heading over to play for Vermont, you've seen. And uh, so we missed each other, but we played for this national team, I think, twice now together, which was an awesome experience. He's definitely one of my better, better friends there.

That is so cool. Danny, we say it's a small world in lacrosse, and we've had two players from Frankfurt, Germany. I don't know how we pulled that off. And they know each other. They know each other. And Frankfurt's not small, but I would assume the the lacrosse community is smaller in Frankfurt and in Germany than when you've got here in the US.

Yeah, lacrosse is really not a big sport back home, I think. I I don't want to say the wrong number, but it's like it's like four, five thousand players in all Germany from youth to men's to women's, so it's no really a big sport. Um we were lucky, we were lucky if we had 12 guys to practice out so we could play sixes.

Um, how does that, like Kevin said, how does that lead you to get interested in playing lacrosse in the States at college? What made how'd you get interested in that? Um that's that's that's a good question.

I think um Perry definitely helped me there because he already went to the US and played college lacrosse. But um, for me it was it was a decision after we played the 21 World Championship. Um I I just fell in love with the sport and I wanted to play on the highest level. And playing in Germany means you have to practice a lot on your own, and it's not too much team practice, maximum twice a week, I would say, and with a national team. But for me, it was it was the decision to like be a little less competitive and like kill a little bit on practice and and games and everything, or I come over to North America and play either in Canada or in the United States. Um so I started uh reaching out to a lot of D2 schools, but actually. Um I sent an email, uh, had a highlight type. Um and it didn't work out in the first year, and I was a little, I was like, okay, whatever, I'll stay home, I'll stay with my family. Um, but I played the no the man world transition to Diva V after, and I just I just wanted to compete in the highest level. And um, yeah, and I tried I tried a second time and sent out emails to I don't know, probably 50 to two schools. Like I just um I had a couple calls with a couple coaches, um but in the end Pear, or old friend of Pear, um Dobson, um was the defensive coordinator at Snoo. So Pear and him had a connection, they were roommates I think together. So um Dobson reached out to me and asked me if I want to play for Snoo, and I I couldn't say no. I I just wanted to play. Absolutely, that's a great story that is.

Awesome. You're the player you get to say to all your teammates, we get to practice because you don't get you didn't get to do it that much. You had to do it in your own and I'm sure like you're loving practices as well with the team. I love practice. I didn't love the practice.

That's awesome. You know what? When I played football, I loved practice too as well. But I felt that the games went too fast. But you know what? Just think about this. You start, you pick up the game at 16.

You're playing in a part of the world that's where lacrosse is not very popular, but yet you fall in love with the game. You know Pear. Pear played in the States at both Division I and Division II. Played with one of the guys that becomes a defensive coordinator at SNHU. You get here. The NCAA says, no, you can't play because you have two gap years. So here you are chomping at the bit. And your very first game as a collegiate athlete, you tie an NCAA record for 15 points. I don't think Hollywood could have wrote.

I don't think Hollywood could have wrote a script that was come close to that story. Lasa, that's an unbelievable story. Now you're at SNHU. Coach Calkins has really put together. Last year there was only like 40, 30 something on the team. Yeah, we were a small team. This year you got like 49 guys on the team. You go out, you knock the snot out of the first game, and then you upset Malloy. Tell us what that game was like.

Um, I was I was really excited about the Malloy game because uh we lost 17 to 2 last year, which was um yeah. I watched I could I couldn't travel with the team so I watched the game on TV and I was sitting on the couch and just I was really frustrated about it. I was like, I felt like um like helpless. I couldn't, I I couldn't be there and help the team out. So I could just watch and it just hurt. And um going into the week against Maloney was just I I you could feel it in the team. Everybody wanted it, everybody did like nobody wanted that to happen again. And um I think they didn't expect us to be that team we were. And I think we played uh I wouldn't say we played our best game, we had a lot of mistakes in there, but um I think uh Joe Gallo had a really good game in offense and Matt uh Matt Roy was outstanding in goal with I think 18 saves. And um, yeah, in the end it worked out for us, and um I'm I'm really happy about it. I think this brought an energy to the team that is unbelievable, and I think we just we're we're ready to win, and I'm I'm ready to win, and I I I I can definitely feel there's a there's a shift in excitement and uh people um seem different than last year. Wow, I'm loving that. That is amazing.

Uh, you just answered like three of my questions that I had ready to go because of your answer right there, Lasa. But I I want to say this when we did the conference preview for the NE10, I said that Southern New Hampshire was going to be a different team and be much improved from last year. And they were pretty good a couple years ago, but last year was a down year, and you guys have really proved it going up against a team like Malloy. So I'm I'm sure the excitement's high, obviously, after the win, and you're seeing that shift. How do you keep that momentum going?

I think I'm I'm trying to preach uh since I got here that it's not about talking to win, it's about actually working and putting in the work to put ourselves in the best spot to be able to win. And if we did our best, I think um that it doesn't matter if we win or lose, but if we put ourselves in that spot over and over and over again, we will win at some point. And um, I'm I'm trying to oh, we were talking about culture the last fall a lot, and how I want to play for a team that has a culture of effort and has a culture of um working, and I think that has changed a lot, and I think keeping that momentum up right now doesn't I don't want to talk about um we're gonna win against this team or I want to win against this team. Like I want to put in the work that we are able to win when the day's right.

What do you think about playing D2 lacrosse? You looked at D2, was that more of like you thought it was a better fit for where you were from an athletic or a skills level, or what do you think uh of and and the NE10? I mean, it's a great conference. What do you think about playing D2 lacrosse in the NE10?

I think so far it's awesome, and what I've seen from the conference so far is it's it's amazing. Like that's the spot where I want to be. And I chose to reach out to most of the two schools. I actually chose to reach out to these two schools because um I saw uh two friends play at Vermont and another guy at uh Providence, and I talked to them a lot, and I they didn't really play, they were always right there to play, and then it didn't like they had a couple of games under a couple of games under the belt, but for me it was really important. I I just wanted to play. Yeah, and I saw that D2 could match my skill set, and I'm I'm really happy with that choice. Excellent choice.

I think that's awesome. We talk about that all the time on this podcast that there's a lot of players in D2 that could play at the or be on a D1 team, but maybe not always get that playing time. And instead, you made that choice of like, if I want to play, I'm gonna go to D2 and look what you're doing and look what uh Southern New Hampshire's doing this year. It's just incredible.

Not only that, what they're doing, they just broke into the top 20 this week, just today. They're ranked number 19. Kevin, I think that's the first time they've been ranked since you and I have started this. I think I mean they've had competitive teams in the past, but they've never been ranked. And now they go on the road to face Caldwell. They're gonna travel to New Jersey and face Caldwell. I think Caldwell better watch out. There's a new type of penman team. I mean, I'm in shock. This this whole weekend has been crazy with with lacrosse this weekend. And what do you think about traveling to Jersey? Uh Lasa, have you ever been to Jersey?

Actually, I think it's gonna be an overnight trip for us.
