All right, Kev, top 10 countdown week six. Here we go. Crazy another kind of crazy week, but things are kind of moving along. Teams are starting to separate themselves a little bit. Number one at Delphi beat St. Michael's 18-2. Kev, 13 different scorers. Are you kidding me? Jeez. The Panthers go to 5-0 and they host AIC on Tuesday. Number two, Anderson beat Emmanuel 27-11. Ryan Bitterman with five goals in that game. They host number six Wingate tonight.

Ben Turpin with four goals, and they face Mercy on Wednesday. They're 3-0. Oh, St. A's beat Mercy tonight. St. A's played Mercy today. Yeah, they did.

Real time, I know, because of my crazy schedule lately. Number four, Tampa beat Colorado Mesa 12-6. Ten different scores for Tampa. Jackson Bashol with two. They're uh sitting at what, nine and one now, Tampa? And looking like one of the better teams in the country for sure. Number five, Lewis lost to unranked Rollins, 10-9 in overtime. Uh what was they gonna do? Um they turned around, though, and beat St. Leo two days later, 20-14. And Paul Rokowski had five goals in that game. So Lewis, a little up and down weekend, a big loss, but turned around and beat another ranked team. So they're sitting okay. Number six, Seton Hill beat Thomas Moore. Are you kidding me? 22 to 1. Yeah. Wow. Carter Lee, two goals and five assists. Seton Hill goes to five and one and they face wheeling. Then they face pace on Saturday. Number seven, Maryville goes to five and one. When they beat number 15, St. Leo, 12-11 in overtime and a thrilling game. We'll talk about that one tonight. Uh number eight, Wingate.

Then they traveled to Anderson on Wednesday, which is tonight. They play tonight. So again, that's gonna be Bourneburner if I ever see. Number nine, Newberry continues to roll along. They're 7-2. They beat Mars Hill 21-6, Liam Vollins with five goals in that game. And number 10, Colorado Mesa. They're going to 4-1, 12-6. They face Flagler and then Dominican, California in RMAC play. So that's your top 10 countdown. Couple of scores to note. How about Northwood, Kev? Every week. Talking a little bit about Northwood. Over Rockhurst, 11-10 in overtime.

CUI over North Naz Northwest Nazarene 19-6. Chawan beat Virginia State 14-2. How about Caldwell, huh? Coach Scorsha gets his first dub, man. He gets his first dub over Felician 12-11 in a close one. And I am happy for Coach Scorsha. Where's the applause button? There it is. He deserves all the applause in the world. Congratulations, Coach. One of I'm sure many to come. I'm happy for him.

Oh, all right. So UDC's on the board now. So UDC's on the board. They got their first win today. All right. We got some first wins at D2. You know what? Long time coming for these guys. Not for nothing. Hey, since we're talking about first wins of the season, let's talk about Georgian court. The Lions got their first win the season, beating Bridgeport 13-10. Welcome to the winning column, uh Lions. That's awesome. Florida Tech beat Flagler 9-8 in a great close game.

Pay speed assumption by one, 11-10. We'll talk about that. And a huge, huge week for Frostburg State. Upset number 12 Bentley, 11-7. Then turning around three days later and beat number 14 Mercy. So two, two big wins. Two top 15 wins in one week. That's for Frostburg. And they've been kind of struggling. Hey, and let's talk about the Rollins Tars, who had lost three consecutive games. And yeah. They beat number five Walsh, then number seven, Maryville, and they began SSC play with three big ones coming in a row, though.

I'm sorry, Lewis. I said Walsh. Yeah, they beat Lewis and they beat Mary Maryville, and they begin Sunshine State play with three big ones in a row. St. Leo, Florida Tech, and then at Tampa. So Rollins, are you back? Remember last year they struggled in the beginning and they came strong at the back? They had lost, you know, three consecutive coming into this, Kev, and they'd won two in a row and two two top ten teams they beat. So is Rollins? Are the Tars back? Could it be? Yeah. And that's and that's just a couple of scores to note from my side.

I've got a few. Um, just three more to add. Davenport uh beat Malone at Malone 24-4. So Davenport's looking pretty strong. We'll talk about that a little bit later in games to potentially watch. Wheeling beat Lake Erie in overtime, 8-7. Good weather. Wheeling. Lake Erie's struggling a little bit. And then Colorado Mesa. I think we talked about this last week. Colorado Mesa against Palm Beach Atlantic in Tampa. This is part of them playing Tampa. It wasn't it wasn't recorded or streamed, but Colorado Mesa beat Palm Beach 18-12. Why do I point that out? Palm Beach has played pretty well. And they came close to Colorado Mesa, but Colorado Mesa, like we thought, Danny won that one out.

Yeah, it was kind of a cool week. You know, us with spring break for a lot of schools. So a lot of a lot of games. Some teams played three games this week. Some play most played two. And um, you know, we had teams from the west come out east and play. We had some teams from the east and the south go out west to play. So it was kind of a really good week in D2. A lot went on, man. A lot went on. And I'm seeing teams starting to separate themselves a little bit, Kevin. Some teams are looking real good in conference. Conference play is about to begin.

Week in Review

up. So let's get to our weekend review. I'll start off. I just want to talk. I watched this game. This was Lees McCrae against Barton. Remember, they've got two. They've got what they're playing tonight against North Greenville. And we we both said, you and me, because we didn't make Coach Dunn have to make predictions, even though we know who who we thought was going to win. Of course. We said that Lees McCrae would beat Barton, and they did 13-9. First victory ever for them over a Barton. They opened the scoring and took a 4-1 lead after one. They widened the lead to four at halftime with 7-3. And really, that's what made the difference. Barton came back in the third and got within one after having three straight goals, but Lees McRae opened it back up by three by the end of the third, and they never looked back. Interesting with this one, though, is the team stats, Danny. Because if you read the team stats, you wouldn't think Lees McCrae probably pulls this out. Shots, 43 for Barton, 34 for Lees McRae. Turnovers, 19 for Barton. 31 for Lees McCray. Wow. Now here's where that difference happens. Faceoff. Barton had six, but Lees McCray had 20. So they controlled possession a lot more. They actually had some good transition goals. It wasn't like they played a slow methodical game all the time. I think they actually try to push it a lot of times, and that's probably where the if you remember we used to talk about Flagler getting going so fast and not being able to control the ball. I think that happened with Lees McCrae now and then. But they were able to control the clock a little bit more in the possession, and they got, if you look at even their shots, so their shots on goal, their their efficiency was a little bit better. Right. And that was the difference in that game.

You know, you gotta hand it to John Grant Jr. and what he's done with this team in two years. I mean, just the difference. Again, we had Brad Dunn on last week, and I told him, you know, it's not going to equate to wins right now, but the improvements there. That's a conference win.

Yeah, and what's the funny thing too, Danny, is what you notice immediately than in past years is the size of the bench for Lees McCrae. Yeah. I mean, you used to seeing like maybe four or five guys on the bench waiting. Now you've got a whole slew. And that makes a huge difference in everything. We've talked about this from practice, especially to injuries and everything else. So that was a really good game. All right. You want to talk St. Leo at Meryville?

Wow, it was a it was a really, really good game and kind of I don't know. It was kind of like a weird kind of ebb and flow to that game, right? It was like it was slow, it was fast, it was slow, it was fast, it was slow. It was kind of weird. But Maryville started out really fast and physical in this game, putting up three goals real quick and setting a physical tone kind of right away, especially on defense. Because you know why? They found themselves in the penalty box six times in the first quarter, Kev. They were knocking butts in the in the barn. They were knocking butts around and putting people on the ground, and they wound up in the box quite a lot. So the Lions were able to get two biscuits back on some of those man-ups and uh on those EMOs and added two more for the Saints, giving them a three-goal lead. Owen Wills scored his second goal, scored two goals in that quarter, which was great. And Maryville led 5-3 after one. Pretty solid first quarter from both. I said, like I said, Maryville jumped out to that real quick lead. Uh each team in the second goal, in the second period, traded goals with the Saints outscoring the Lions 3-2 in that quarter, and the Saints still had that three-goal cushion, and it was 8-5 at half. In the third, each team played pretty well with both squads making big stops, and St. Leo kind of began to chip away because they got guys, Kev. They got guys, you know, and and they began to chip away. And um had goals by Rauchy and Moltesanti, but every time St. Leo scored, Maryville would answer right back. Uh Charlton scored, and Taco scored. Rauchy scored again for St. Leo, and at the end of the third quarter, they he brought it within two. Now it was 10-8 Maryville. They still had that two-goal cushion. St. Leo seemed like every time they scored, Maryville would answer. So the fourth quarter was a stalemate with no goal scored until the final four minutes of this quarter.

When Aiden Nogen buried one for St. Leo to bring it within 10-9. Winger Muley answered, that kid can shoot, man. Yeah. He's got a lefty rip. Wingber Muli answered for Maryvelle to give the Saints another two-goal cushion, Kev. Now we've got this is like less than four minutes left all going on. Ben Baker scored an unassisted goal for St. Leo at the 152 mark to bring it within one. Ben Baker's uh and and and we and then I'm sorry. Aiden Nogen answered for St. Leo at the 152 mark and brought that within to one. Then Ben Baker scored unassisted for St. Leo, and we were tied for the first time, and he scored that goal with 40 seconds left.

That's that was the amazing thing to me. First of all, they they finally tie it with four and they tie it with 40 seconds left.

Yeah, I mean, it was the last four minutes of this game was really, really exciting. In overtime, Meryville won the faceoff. Passed it over to Wingber Muli. Wingber Muli thought his guy was on the like the wing on the left. The guy wasn't there. He threw the ball right out of bounds. Everybody was like, oh now, oh my God, St. Leo's got a chance to come back, right? And what happened? They turned the ball over.

Yeah, but did you see that? Because what happened was the player got was double teamed. He still had some room to back up, and he he felt like he had to pass it. So he winged it high. And it was it the his his other player, I forgot who it was, actually caught the ball, but then he went over and back. He stepped back over the midline.

Because I was shocked, you know, that the the camera angle isn't that great. They have it up a little bit high, that's fine. That's what they're dealing with, what they've got at at Meryville. So you couldn't even see that he caught the ball at first. He catched the ball, and you're like, oh, St. Leo's got it. Then you look back, if you do the replay, you see his foot go across, refs call it, gives Maryville the ball.

Yeah, man. It was, you know, and then and then uh Conor Caval was able to bury that biscuit for Maryville to give him the win. I mean, St. Leo came back. But you know what? I think for Maryville, the jumping out to that real fast lead and getting those three quick goals right away was kind of like the difference in this game. Because 6v6 was kind of even game. You know, after after those first three goals, it kind of went back and forth a little bit. And like I said, every time St. Leo would score, Meryville would answer. But St. Leo just kept chipping and kept chipping. It was a good game. It went into overtime.

So that will tell you how good both those teams are, right? Because Maryville, like you said, St. Leo was finally chipped away. 40 seconds left. They tie it up. You're thinking, okay, here they come. Meryville always had an answer. And, you know, there are a couple of mistakes in overtime by both teams. A little tight, a little scared, maybe. Not scared, it's the wrong word, but you know what I'm saying? They're just it was that close of a game.

Yeah, Maryville outshot them 42 to 30. Uh shots on goal. Maryville had 23. St. Leo had 19. Um, St. Leo had 19 turnovers to Maryville's 15. Uh, Maryville was 14 for 17 on the clear. This is where St. Leo struggled a little bit. They were 18 for 24 on the clear. Uh 26 ground balls for St. Leo Lions, 34 ground balls for the Maryville Saints. And uh on the extra man, St. Leo was two for seven. Maryville was uh one for four for St. Leo. John Raucci, two goals and assist. Aiden Nogin, two goals and assists, Ben Baker with two goals. Owen Wills, good game. Kid's good, man. He's really good. He better get some nods and some accolades this year. Two goals, uh, two ground balls, three cross turnovers. Uh Thomas Nealan, uh Tristan LeBlanc, each added one. Uh Andrew Graham, who was awesome last week. Wasn't so awesome this week. Nine for 22 at the dot. And Drew Wheeler solid again in goal uh with 11 saves from Meryville. Eli Wingbermuley. You know where he's from, Kev? Where is he from? He's from Hillsbury, Hillsboro, Missouri. He led all scores with four goals. Colin Tobias had two goals and an assist. Um, and Connor Caval K. Hayden Moon, Luke Charlton, and uh Arlie Watson all ha added a goal. Jack Taco had two goals. Shea Rayburn, very good face-off kid, man. He was 14 for 19 at the dot. And Evan Alfano in goal for the Saints, eight saves. So Meryville's at 5-1. And St. Leo's at what? 5-2? Yeah, I think so. I got a look at the check, yeah.

So that was a good game. It was a fun game to watch. That same day. Rollins wins in overtime in that game, 10-9. Then they swap on Monday, right? So Maryville played Rollins. Rollins won that one, 11-9. They didn't let that go to overtime. They actually beat Meryville, and they by the end, you knew it wasn't like the 42nd one we just saw. They they won that, but it was still a good game. It was close most of the time. But Lewis took St. Leo to the woodshed a little bit and beat 24 20 to 14. Yeah, they sure did. So great. I I love when they do that. You know, Coach Dunn was talking about that too when they get together and they play anything. That's a just a great way to see a lot of games. It's tough to catch all of them. I caught most of them this time, but you know what?

And it's good to see the guys out east traveling to the west now because those guys always come out here. Yeah, exactly. You know, they always have to, you know. It's about time the East Boys, you know, reciprocated and make that trip. And it makes sense to go and get two games out of it. You know, go for three three days during your spring break and that type of thing. Exactly.

All right, let's move on. Let me talk Flagler Florida Tech. This game actually happened on Friday, I'm pretty sure. If I go back to my notes, I will tell you, this was a defensive game, Danny. Both defenses were playing well in the first quarter. And it was a battle like that all the way throughout. Flagler, however, was winning most of the face-offs. And the other thing that I heard on the on the broadcast, which may contribute to some, I know Coach Duncan wouldn't want to say this. Flagler has been dealing with a lot of injuries, and so they're playing a lot more freshmen on offense than what we've seen in the past. Oh, I didn't know that. Right. Yeah. So there's some freshmen getting getting burned now. Now they played pretty well, and you can tell it was a 9-8 game. So that's going to help them in the long run. It was 3-2 after one Florida Tech. And then it became a game of runs. Florida Tech scores four in a row to go up 4-2 in the second. Saints are going a three-goal run to go up by 1-5-4. Then Florida Tech gets two transition goals, and they go up 6-5 with 1-11 left. Then another they get another man up goal after an unsportsman-like penalty at the end of that last goal. So when they made it 6-5, Flagler gets tagged with unsportsman-like. So Florida Tech goes up 7-5 at half. And what you're seeing with Flagler do now with their goalies, this is, I think, the second or third game I've seen this in a row. Wade Lamon plays the first half, and Jonas Smith comes in goal for the second half. And that's exactly what happened this past time. Flagler scored man up to tie it up to make it 7-6 with 8 4 43 left in the third quarter. And then it kind of goes back and forth. Flagler's, you know, it's 9-7 after 3, Florida Tech. And like I said, there was great defense on both sides. And I'll tell you, just like we saw Florida Tech against Wingate and how effective their slides were. Same thing with Floor against Flagler this game. They just seemed to slide and recover really well. And so it was 9-7 after three. I'll tell you how great the defenses were. There was only one goal in the fourth quarter, and that was by Flagler with 4.08 remaining in the fourth quarter to make it 9-8, but Florida Tech held on to make it uh to to to win 9-8.

Florida Tech, man, they're they got a good little schedule coming up. They have to play Emory Riddle, Lynn. They got Sunshine State coming up. And they got a lot of tough games coming up, bro.

Yeah, but I think. So they here they at the the team stats, face-offs. Flagler uh had 15 to Florida Tech's six to help Flagler stay in the game. Extra man, man up. Uh Flagler was one for three. It's not so much how many goals each made. Florida Tech was two, but Flagler was in the box seven times. So that did not help them. Saves, Flagler had four to Florida Tech seven, and ground balls, Flagler had 26 to Florida Tech 17. So you see by the team stats, there's a little give and take on both sides. Flagler, Ben Nyberg had three goals, and Trace McDonald had three assists. And for Florida Tech, Parker Kane had three goals. Max Henry, one goal, two assists. Ryan Chancer had one goal, one assist, and Steve Ulrich's on D had three ground balls and four cost turnovers. It goes back to how great the defenses were playing.

It's a really good game. Yeah, man. Florida Tech goes to five and two. Flaglers at six and four. And like I said, Florida Tech's got a little bit of a they got they got some games ahead of them. I this is gonna really tell us what we have in Florida Tech because they've been a little inconsistent, but they have some big wins under their belt as well. And uh I want to see them against Rollins, I want to see them against St. Leo, you know.

Yeah, I think those are gonna be really, really competitive games. Yeah, so excellent, excellent job. Okay, one more game to go over uh that I I don't think you got to watch because you were ready for another game. I was watching this game with my cup of coffee at 6 in the morning in Hawaii in my hotel room. Poor guy. And that was sub Assumption Against Pace. Pouring rain that day. It rained every day. Did it? Yeah, yeah, it was crazy. That's the thing. So Pace pulls this out 11-10. This, I have to say, Danny, was once again, it was a it was a game, really a real back and forth game. Really back and forth. Especially after the first, because Assumption jumped out. Assumption just controlled things in the first quarter. They had three transition goals to go up three, three-o, and it ended up being four-zero assumption after one. Their D defense was very aggressive, and that that let them really control that first quarter, and then their goalie, Shane Corcoran, started off hot in goal for them. So the sketter, the setters then score first and the second, so they make it four-one. Corcoran continues to hold them back though with a great save, and then immediately gets one on the doorstep off of a rebound. So it was a bang bang play that he stopped two goals. Just amazing. But pace comes back, and they it's five, four and half assumption. So they've closed the gap by a lot. They continued to trade goals in the second half. It goes, it's basically just back and forth. It's six-five. And then pace ties it up in transition 7-7. The Greyhounds uh don't respond. The setters take the lead for the first time by Declan Landers off with a great off-ball cut cut from X and getting a great feed on Creese. So it seemed like the momentum slowly was swinging toward pace and may start to control the possession time. It's 8-8 after three. And then you talk about other goalie play, Jack Kern with some unbelievable saves to begin the fourth. He's good. So you look at that. Both had great games. If you look at it from uh who had the better games, you know, Shane Corcoran first half, Jack Kern maybe second half, but both just played unbelievable games. And I'll tell you, this is how the bath back and forth was exemplified in the fourth quarter. Pace tied it up at 655 because they caught Assumption sleeping on D and they get a transition goal to make it 9-9. Then 20 seconds later, there's a pass from McCuna McGrath cutting from X to take the lead for Assumption back 10-9. Then fast forward several minutes. Four minutes go by. Assumption takes the lead again. Or no, they uh there's a goal by pace to tie it up 10-10. And then that's at 2.04. 30 seconds later, Matt Badano puts pace up by one with a nice cut up the middle to make it 11-10, and they squeak it out. They hold it on for the next minute and a half to win it at 11-10.

We've seen this with several games. This is where it's getting really tight, and these teams are very, very close. Assumption's a really good game. Look at the team stats. Shots, assumption 44 to pace, 38. This is where pace made it up, though. Shots on goal, 23 for assumption, 26 for pace. Great efficiency by pace. Turnovers, Assumption had 19 of paces, 15. All the rest were pretty even. So that'll give you a little bit of a nod to pace in that one. For assumption, Patrick McGrath had two goals, two assists, Ben McHugh had two goals, and Boomer Staunton had two goals and one assist. For pace, Matt Baldino led the scoring with four goals. Will Donowski, who's one of the biggest offensive players out there, is like 6'5, 220, three goals, one assist. Declan Landers followed up with two goals, one assist. And Ose Odoma, six ground balls, one cost turnover for Pace. That's a good day. That's a good day. It was a really, really close game. Both pace and assumption. You know, I think pace is higher ranked, but you can see how close Assumption in years past. Last year maybe they they put on I don't know what the score is last year, but Assumption is no joke anymore. They're six and two. Yeah, they're a damn good team, and it was a great game to watch, really back and forth.

Mancini came down, found this man, right, bing, bang, boom, goal. I don't think it was 14, 13 seconds were off the clock. And LR was on the board. Second face-off, Mancini wins the clamp again, shh, flies down the field. Now the defense gets their man, but they leave Mancini open. Yeah, right in the middle. Right on the crease. Quad Williams had no chance to stop that ball. So it was 2-0. Then Mancini won't wins the third faceoff. Same thing. Comes down, bing, bang, boom, three-nothing within like a minute and 14 seconds were off the clock. I said to myself, Oh shit.

So now it was 3-3 in that time. So, like once Wingate got the ball, they were able to score. That explosion was crazy, though. Um, that's fast break goals by Jared Hoffman Cini and Brush N all within the first minute. LR fans were going nuts. And the Wingate fans were like, what's going on? Palms up in the air and jaws down. Um but uh Wingate won the next couple of face-offs, like I just said, and guess what? They scored on both possessions. Kyle Spence and Joey Moran both buried biscuits for the Bulldogs. Rupert won the ensuing face-off for the Dogs, and Jack Murray got his first of the day. And like that, we were tied. Murray found Matt Benzing all alone, and Benzing buried one for the Bulldogs, and the Dogs took the lead and never looked back, Kev. Never looked back.

Yeah, a couple of freshmen played really good for Wingate. I think Wingate's finding their stride now, finding their like their niche on D. Their offense, their ones have looked good for like the last two, three weeks. I mean, they started out slow. I think a lot of teams started out slow this year. I don't there wasn't too many teams that started out except for Anderson, maybe Adelphi and Tampa that started out with this great explosion. But I I think Wingate's starting to put it together, but I was really impressed with their defense. Their defense is really good. The short stick D-mids, let me tell you something. If both of these short stick D mids don't get accolades for something, something's wrong. Because Mason McGivron played a hell of a game the other day. And Matt PayPal, the other short stick D mid, he's he's playing like an all-American this year, if you ask me.

I mean, he he didn't he was right on him, you know just checking him, checking him, but like he couldn't get by him. And then first of all, he's he does not make He doesn't make mistakes. So if you want you want someone to be able to transition the ball for you, because he's an offensive player. Yeah. He's that skill level. So you start him off and he plays defensive mini like that.

And just I think having him on the defensive side of the ball for one gate really gives them a big advantage like that. I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to find out from coach, but they really played well, you know, and they really were able to, and you know, you put it really well. It it was a stress-free Wingate win over LR because LR has really gotten the better of Wingate for a lot of years, and I've been the witness to it from many of them.

And then uh then there was a nice give and go go give and go goal from Clark to Spence back to Clark to make it 14-10, bring it back up to four goals. And then what do you say? That that that's I I wrote right then. That was 106 left, that's all she wrote. Wingate got it back, and who runs out the clock? Jackson Grant and then Matt PayPal.

So that's he's been averaging around 50. It's some of the saves that he had, though. So, yeah, no, no, he played much better and it was. He he he gets he gets psyched in big games. So it was what I what you see from Wingate is you know, you you've got the guys like Joey Moran and and others that usually you see even there's just so many weapons that Wingate has on offense. Now you flip it around, their defense, their their whole team played a solid 59 minutes of ball to win that game.

It was a great experience, honestly. Um, like coming in my freshman year, we just um Got like a new coach. His name is um Coach Tallman. And he he knows so much about lacrosse, it's crazy. Wow, and you know what? Georgia's not really known for its lacrosse, but they're really growing high school lacrosse down there. What was your high school lacrosse experience like in Georgia?

So um we used to have a previous coach named um Coach Snow. And um, Coach Snow and Coach Ambrose used to um like coach a ton in like the Georgia area. Yeah. So I used to go against them all the time in summer, and that's basically how I got familiar with them.

It was kind of a mix of both, but um I feel like I was heavily recruited by um Coach Ambrose because at the time he was um our defensive coordinator.

Wow, that's awesome, man. It's just it seems like a you know, a dream come true. Just it kind of worked out your way. That's great. So now you're at Coker. Now now you get to Coker and you're in the sack, you're in division two. What were your first thoughts and your first experiences when you first got on the field for the Covers?

I was like, wow.

Well and wow, in what way?

Size, speed, or um, it was I feel like both, honestly. Because um, like coming in my freshman year, I was like really skinny, and um, I was like, these guys are huge. And like honestly, like I felt like it made it like pushed me even more to be like, wow, I need to up my game to their level, and just trying to like make it so I like I was able to um like find my place really.

That's great. And and and did they help you develop your defensive skills while you were there and show you all different kinds of stuff and teach you things that maybe you didn't know in high school?

For sure. Like that first um fall, like my freshman year, especially, like Coach Ambrose just broke down like every little thing, and that helped so much. I used to come in for like film all the time, um, and just making sure like I got the little things like right, and just and it just those little things just kept stacking and stacking, and it just helped me like find my like way on the field.

So now you're yeah, now that that's awesome. That's it. Great to hear because a lot of players, I would think, when they're coming into college, feel like they've got to be at that at the level, and yet really I think it's a chance to just get to that next level. No one coming into college, like you you hit the nail on the head. I saw my son do it, Danny's seen his kids do it when they go in their freshman year. They are no longer the best player on the field they were when they were on their team, usually, right? And so you come in there and it it's a it's a development phase you've got to go through, correct?

For sure. And I feel like especially when you get to um like the next level, you like the first thing is like, oh, I have to fix this, this, this, this, this. And just you have to like focus on just one thing at a time, because those one things you have to get like a good foundation first. Right. That makes total sense.

Yeah, like building blocks, start at A, get A down, and then we'll move on to B. And you know what? It's helped you so much. I mean, you've been just a phenomenal player. Now let's talk about the conference. Okay, now now you've you're in division two. You're saying, wow, look at the size of these guys, look at the speed of this guy. I have to up my game, and then you play squads like limestone, wingate, Lemon Ryan, you know, like I can go on, Newberry now, Anderson. These squads are like top 10, top 15 squads. What goes through your mind when you meet a squad like that for the first time?

So uh it's actually funny you say that. So my freshman year, I started out as um a backup LSM because our starter was amazing. So um I basically came into coach's office like the week before we versed Anderson, and I was like, so like how can I get on the field more? And he gave me a short stick. It was like my first ever time playing D mid, all this stuff. And then coming in on that Saturday, I was able to um like become a starter as a D mid. And it was the first ever time playing against the sack opponent, and I was playing D mid.

Against Anderson. Honestly, I thought it was amazing like a great game. And I feel like versing these teams in the sack is kind of like a blessing, like in disguise, because I feel like the better competition you verse, the more competitive, the more like fun, the more like everything, like the intensity is the highest. Yeah, there's an old saying, high tides raise all boats, right, Kev? Yeah. So you know, and and that's true. You know, you play teams like that, you just you you know, you're like, wow, I gotta be like those guys. We want to be like them, and this is what they're doing. Let's try to do that. And you know, it definitely helps your game. I, you know, I loved playing the big boys. I was a football coach, and like I loved playing the bigger teams, the better teams. It was just, I just felt that it was a uh I guess a standard to look up to and to see where my team was and my play and stuff when I played like that. So I think that's great. And so now you've in division two. Now you're in the sack, and now not only are you in the sack, but you're leading the country and cause turnovers, young man. Like your game is just every year has just elevated and elevated and elevated to the point where you're one of the top LSMs in the country. How does that make you feel? Uh he's got a big smile on his face, folks.

No, um, and all honesty, it doesn't really like feel like real, if I'm being honest. Okay. Because um, like one of my teammates, his name's um like Michael Jensen. Yeah, right, and he's an amazing player, and like seeing him play with me too, I feel like it's kind of getting to a point where it's like we're like fighting each other to like like because I whenever I see Red play, I'm like, wow, I need to do a play like that, and then it's just like build and build. And like, yeah.

So even within your own team, you you have a player that you model yourself after, you compete against, and you want to get it's almost like competition within that, a friendly competition for you to keep on up in your game. That's awesome. I I'll tell you what, Danny and I have always said that Coker is a really scrappy team. You cannot count them out, do not count them as a W, even if you're a Lenore Ryan or you're an Anderson, you cannot do that. You we've seen Coker play for years, and they've always been good. Your team sits at 6-2 right now, two and one in conference, and you're coming up to some big games. Newberry, Anderson, actually, Newberry will be by the time this goes live, you will already have played them. How does you how do you and your team feel now that you are into the middle of that sack play and going up against teams like this?

I think it'll be a great test. Because um, I mean, Newberry and Anderson are top eight right now, I'm I'm pretty sure. Yeah, and yep. I mean, they're amazing teams. So I think um even if it doesn't go our way, I think learning all like from the experiences and like our mistakes is just gonna help us build even more. Where when we start playing other teams later on as well, it's just gonna keep us growing and get better and better.

They added you know, guys to their roster, they're a lot deeper now, and they've always been scrappy. Now you add some depth to the team, and then guys like you just doing your thing, and now you like like Kevin said, you said it's six and two. That's pretty darn good, young man. What do you attribute the the great start to?

Um, I think it's a really good confidence builder. Like um, having our first game go to triple overtime, and then being able to get that win, I feel like it just got the guys going. And like I feel like let's say like we didn't win that game, I think our season goes completely different than what it is now. And I'm just thankful that like we're just we're we're just keep on rolling.

I like um just basically helped them do a bunch of maintenance, did a bunch of um taping, and I I saw some like pretty brutal injuries like during games.

Right my second shout out goes to Newberry sophomore attack Liam Volins he's hit a hundred career points in less than two years he's good man he is very good it's a little he's like a little rodent back there yeah like a little mouse like he just he slides back and forth he's behind cage he's in front of Cage like he's got like that Alan Iverson to him you remember Alan Iverson from the 76ers got that slithery slippery fast quickness to him so he's a good player.

That's a great shout out okay any more from on your side you have any more shout outs no more shout outs okay I've got one more and this goes out to Paul and Jude Munter the Aloha Youth Lacrosse Association AYLA studs that I got to I just want to thank them for letting me come watch their practice if you remember last week when we were on with Coach Dunnis that I was going to go out and uh go observe some practice and it was always a lot of fun. It's great to watch them play and the other AYLA players they end up playing now most of their games got rained out this past Sunday because it was really bad weather practices were rained out from Wednesday and Thursday games canceled on the weekend it was a torrential downpour. Yeah yeah yeah I just spent most of my time in my hotel room but that's my own my own trials and tribulations but uh so a shout out to them without a doubt and then finally I just want to mention once again that you know any merch merch merch is coming merch is coming very soon within the next month is my guess before conference playoffs we'll be having merch but you can always buy Danny a cup of joe on our website we gotta change that cup to high C.
