SPEAKER_05

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of In the Crease with Danny and Kevin, a coast-to-coast discussion of D2 Men's Across. I'm your co-host, Kevin Stenstrom, and with me as always is the man who makes every day feel like a holiday.

SPEAKER_03

Danny Moran. Oh, Kevin, thank you so much for that warm introduction. My heart is melting. I'm touched.

SPEAKER_05

Well, you know, we we did the Irish music last week in preparation because we recorded uh part of this episode on St. Patrick's Day. Yeah. This is day two of a recording. This is now the day after. So we're really out of a holiday, but you know, every time I get to talk to you about lacrosse, it's like a holiday for me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you're the man, Kevin. How's it going tonight in Northern Virginia?

SPEAKER_05

It's going well. What can I complain about? You know, we get to be here and uh talk lacrosse and get another episode out for our listeners. It's always fun.

SPEAKER_03

Another crazy week in D2. Some upsets, some big games, some crazy stuff going on, new teams jumping into the top 20. This has been this has been like a little bit of a whirlwind year kind of. Teams in, teams out, teams playing well.

SPEAKER_05

And I think we've also seen some teams that weren't playing well at the beginning of the season start to get in their groove, find their identity, do some things. Other teams where we may be expecting them to just hold their own and be at the top all the time, have a little have a little bit of a stumble as the middle of the season comes in. It is interesting. It goes back to what we were talking about of so much turnover, I think, across the whole landscape, right? It's not just one team, it's not the top teams. Sometimes it's those teams that have been lurking in the shadows that were building a couple years ago. So yeah, their seniors, their graduates left, but it was really their freshmen and sophomore of a couple years ago were the ones they were really counting on because that was what they were really building upon, right?

SPEAKER_03

Right. The flaglers. The flaglers, the Montevalos, you know, just a lot of you know team younger teams doing well this year, you know. And yeah. It's good to see. It's really, yeah, it is. Great to see.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Before

Top 10 Roundup

SPEAKER_05

we get to some of our those games that we watched or we can review, let's get to your top ten roundup.

SPEAKER_03

Ah, Kev, week seven, and this is your first one. All right, top ten roundup this week. Number one, Tampa beat Undy in a tight match 12-8, and the Spartans play Florida Tech next. Number two, Adelphi stays undefeated, beating St. Michael's 19-4. And they face AIC next and Carter Linkletter. Like to see him put some balls on the ground and maybe get some points.

SPEAKER_05

So Linkletter against Bauer.

SPEAKER_03

Read Bauer now. Former teammates. Former teammates. Former teammates, that's right. Number three, Limestone beat Lenore Ryan at Lenore Ryan in an unbelievable game. 16-6, Kev, a beatdown. And Limestone faces Tuskelem next. Number four, Pace beat Assumption 17-9. And they play Franklin Pierce today. Number five, Wingate beat Tusculum 28 to 11. Set a program record for score points. And the Bulldogs face Newberry next, and they don't like each other, Kev. Number six, Lenore Ryan lost to Limestone, and they face Lincoln Memorial next in sack action. Number seven, Seton Hill looks very good. Kevin beat Thomas More 29-4 and face Wheeling next. And that's going to be another W for the Grips, I think, right there. Number eight, St. Ay's beat Mercy 18-14. And face Bentley again in this time N10 action. Number nine, Meryville beat number 20 Rollins 16-9. And they face a tough Montevallo Falcons team next, Kev. And number 10, jumping into the top 10 for the first time in program history, my Flagler Saints. And they beat a stubborn, good Lin team, 12-9. And they face Malloy on a night game coming up this weekend.

SPEAKER_05

Their last night game of the year. That Lin game was interesting, Danny. I don't know if you realized it because they had like a weather delay for like two and a half hours. Or more it was, I think. It was crazy. It was a long time. It's funny. I went on. I'm trying to watch the scores. I wasn't watching the game. I'm like, it keeps on saying it's the second quarter. It keeps on saying it's the second quarter. I'm like, what is going on? So I had to do some more research. I did watch the end of that game, and Lynn played a good game. It was a good match.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was. It was. So the Saints play Malloy next in the night game, and that's your name. All right, Kev, just a couple of quick scores to note. Mars Hill upset Cataw 14-11. Big big win for Mars Hill. Lewis quietly goes to 7-1. Kev beat Davenport 20 to 6. Gotta keep an eye on them flyers. Yeah. They're starting to do some stuff. Wilmington put up 31 over Dominican in New York. What? 31? I had to see if that was like a clerical mistake. Yeah. I had to go back on this. And then I looked at all the points. I was like, oh no shit. They did put up 31. Hey, how about the Mox? Florida Southern finally gets a win, beating number 13 Colorado Mesa on senior day for the Mox. They beat them 15-8. I watched that game. I'll go over that in our week in review. And uh the St. Leo Lions seemed to just keep rolling along, beating number nine Maryville, 11-9 on Wednesday. That was a big win for uh for St. Leo. Just a couple of scores.

Week in Review

SPEAKER_05

That's great. So let's now get in to that week in review. We talked about it first. Uh I don't think you watched it. I did watch it, and I'll tell you why in a second. I did watch the Florida Southern Colorado Mesa game. Yeah, I didn't see it. The reason why, Danny. It was nice weather here on a Saturday night. I got my cigar and glass of scotch. And I sat out on my back deck, back deck, and watched the game.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I thought you said I thought you were gonna say you took your wife out dancing.

SPEAKER_05

No, I don't know. It's all about cross. Now I don't know I hope she doesn't listen to that because now I'll be even more trouble. Thank you very much. We said it, you know, Florida Southern, as you said, they won 15-8. And we said something did not seem right with the mocks last week when we were we were previewing this game. Well, Coach Marty Ward fixed that with a dominating performance. He's been moving those offensive MIDI lines around, trying to find the right combination. Their offense was clicking, but I think their D played even better. You know, they add in Mikey Smoke now. He only had seven saves, but in typical fashion, the saves he had were were critical in critical times. And I actually I never noticed that with him before, but there are times, especially when there are wing shots where he's actually stepping outside of the circle. I like I never noticed that, like maybe it was just the angle this time. He just it's amazing to watch him now. Now I've watched him several times. Like he's very smooth, but like he really was making that net smaller just by moving out, and he knows when to do it. It was really interesting to watch.

SPEAKER_03

He's got long arms too. He's like, what he's got like like octopus arms.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he keeps it close, and then all of a sudden the arms go out, and you're like, huh. The other thing though, I did not know this, Colorado Mesa had not played since February 25th two and a half weeks. And I think you saw that on their defensive side, especially in the first half. They just did not seem to communicate well and almost looked porous. I mean, Florida Southern's offense was doing a good job, but there were times where the MIDI or the offensive player would be dodging, and they would he could go through three guys, and it's like they were standing still. You know, so it was really interesting. The Mavs D played much better in the second half. They actually got the score to 9-6, and you thought, okay, here they come. But Florida Shut Southern shut them down. They only had two more goals the rest of the way, and the mock's offense continued to pour it on. They were impressive, and they were dominating, especially in the in the fourth quarter. Florida Southern, uh Nolan Ty, five goals, Jack Epley with three goals, Maddox Walton and uh Bryden Robish showed two goals and one assist a piece. And then on defense, Corona Carson, his stats said only said four ground balls, no cost turnovers, but he was all over the field wreaking havoc for the Mox. And they just they played a full 60-minute game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they needed that win. They needed that win, man. It was it was spiraling downhill fast for the mox. They they needed that win. That's a good win for them in a nationally ranked team. Yes.

SPEAKER_05

All right. Uh how about we go to St. A's Mercy?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the St. A's Mercy game. Boy, Jimmy Asario can play, huh? Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

He scored the first four goals.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he was on fire, man. Yeah. But it just wasn't enough. He had six goals in the game from Mercy, but it just wasn't enough. St. A's uh St. A's jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Jimmy Asorio used a phenomenal second quarter scoring three straight goals for the Mavs. But every time, every time Mercy would make a little run, St. A's would answer right away. Yeah, answer right away. I'll tell you, man, uh LeMay and Boyle and Colin Mulvey, those three were outstanding for St. A's. Um, I just thought that St. A's was faster to the ball, faster on offense, faster on defense, and just overall just a better team. I don't think if Mercy played them again tomorrow, uh I think St. A's would beat him again.

SPEAKER_05

I mean it was yeah, I I agree. I it was interesting. I saw especially in the first quarter, it took well, the first quarter showed that Mercy's D was not able to stop the Hawks when they got up to that 3-0 lead, right? But it so it took them a while to get up to speed, the Mercy D. And they actually brought the game. The game was what about six-five at half with the Hawks, and then the Mavs tied up.

SPEAKER_03

Santa blew it up and they scored eight goals in the third.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, well, I'll tell you, I like you said, they they went on some runs. Mercy seems to come back. You like one time they went on a run and the Hawks scored a third goal in two minutes and 40 seconds. Like they just scored goal after goal. And I thought, can Mercy respond? And no, they didn't. They scored a fourth. And then they finally seem to get back on their feet. It looks like, okay, they're they're bringing it down to like a three-goal deficit.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_05

Here come the Hawks again.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, St. A's is good, man. They got a they got a bunch of good players. They just, you know what, they play hard, they play fast, they try to get out and transition. They have players, they have multiple guys that can score St. A's, man. They really do. I mean, Colin Mulvey at five, Matt LeMay, who we just talked about last week.

SPEAKER_05

He's a freshman, and I wrote a note like, do not leave him hands-free. Like, you better get something near him because he made a shot from fairly far out, at least 12 yards. And no one was on him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's fast, he's shifty, he's good, LeMay. He had four goals. Mark Boyle, the sophomore, had three. Chris Claflin had three, Maverick Lyon had two, Joe Lombard had one. I mean, they had just multiple guys that could score, but Colin Mulvey had himself a day.

SPEAKER_05

Not only that, but look how that you told it. Mark Boyle, besides three goals, had an assist. Chris Claflin, besides three goals, had four assists. Matt LeMay had an assist. Maverick Lyon had an assist. Joe Lombardi had two assists. I mean, they share the rock.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Quinn Gannon at the dot, 10 to 10 out of 14, and Evan Splain, 11 out of 19 at the dot. Finn Grenara, our boy in between the pipes, had himself a day, 12 saves. And you know, Mercy drops to 3-3 after that loss. Uh, it was an 18-14 loss. Uh, Jimmy Asorio, the Newberry transfer graduate student. That boy, that boy's a sharp shooter. He can he can shoot. He can shoot, man. Yeah. Um, when he's on fire, he's tough to stop. He had six goals. Uh Aiden Babnik with three, Devin Deknowski with two, uh, Smith, Bergesson, and Huntsberger each with one. Kenny Summit was 11 for 26 at the dot. Uh, how about AJ Barone, two ground balls and two calls turnovers, and Cameron Dorfman in goal, six saves. Um pulled.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he got pulled. I think it was in the fourth quarter.

SPEAKER_03

It was. Yeah. It pulled him. So team stats, uh, it was 46 to 44 in shots uh in favor of mercy. Uh 15 turnovers St. A's to 13 for Mercy, 14 for 18 on the clears for St. A's, 15 for 19 for clears for Mercy, uh, 31 ground balls for St. A's, 34 ground balls for Mercy on the EMOs, both teams were two for four. So St. A's goes to 3-0, faces Bentley in the next uh in any 10 play, and uh Mercy faces Deuville next. So Yeah. Yeah. Mercy's uh I don't know, man. They're not what they were last year.

SPEAKER_05

They're not the scene they were last year. You're exactly right. Not at all. They're still a work in progress this season. Okay, and another game I watched, and we'll go through it quickly, is Assumption against Pace. Assumption was on both teams undefeated going into this game. This was played in Worcester at Assumption. Assumption led 2-0 after one, and that's when I first tuned in. I like look at the score, I'm like, oh my gosh. Assumption's up. You know, is this an early upset brewing? And then they continue that with a man up goal to go up three zip against pace. And I thought, wow. You know, that was in the beginning of the um second quarter. Greyhound the Greyhounds D really locked down pace in the first quarter. It took pace kind of like we saw with the Malloy game. Although Malloy played a little bit closer to them than than Assumption did. Kind of got him a little bit it didn't take them as long. They started to pick up uh pace, you know, a pace, pace picking up pace in the second. Uh it was starting to figure it out. Yeah, so it was six five and a half pace. Assumption comes back, and I think at that point, I should say, at that point, you start to see Assumption's D starting to break down a little bit more and leaving some room open. I think pace started to be able to work the ball a little bit more, get where they wanted to be, uh, and make those shots. And and so that's but Assumption brought it back to even in the beginning of the third uh on a man up goal. But then Spa Pace scored two quick ones to go up eight, six. Both transition goals, the second one off of the faceoff. So they scored very quickly. It was back and forth by a little bit, but within one goal, nine-eight, and then Pace opened it up with a three-goal differential, and that really was it. It was 11-8 after three, and then Pace took over in the fourth, outscoring them six to one. They controlled the possession. That was this their quarter. Yeah. It helped that they were winning ground balls. They won 29 ground balls to Assumption's 19, but in the fourth, Danny, they had seven ground balls. Assumption had zero.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Well, there you go. So pace keeps moving along. They're they're still undefeated and they're moving on. Assumption, I have to say, Assumption looks pretty good.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

They're not at Pace's level from being able to, they did not play four full quarters against them. I think pace is just too strong. But we talked about them in the preview, and assumption could be a team to watch. They're a team to watch. They're dangerous. You got to be on your have your A game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, right now I think in the NE 10, the top four teams are a Delphi, Pace, Saint A's, and Assumption. I think those four teams right there are gonna be in the tournament. And uh it's it's uh, you know, who's gonna beat a Delphi? That's what it comes down to, I think, right now in the NE 10. Can Pace do it? Can St. A's do it? I don't know, man. I watched the Delphi uh this weekend. They look pretty good, man.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. I I would like, I can't wait for the St. Mike's Assumption game. I think that'll be a really good game. I don't know when that is, but we'll have to put that on the calendar. I think that will be a good one because St. Mike's is impressed early. They did not have a good game against a Delphi and Assumption, although they lost to Pace, and Pace controlled them really in the second half. They looked good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they still look like a good squad. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So before Pace, Declan Landers had four goals. Dan Xavier had six goals, Jack Kern had 15 saves, and for Assumption, Ryan Boger had three goals, three assists, and Nolan Johnson had two goals. Just to throw out a few stats for some folks there.

SPEAKER_03

Xavier's been lighting it up, and he only had two goals. He only had two goals today. I was like, oh, only two for Danny Boyd. He's been lighting it up, man. He's been having a great year. He's a big, he's a big kid, too, man. For the Tacman, he's a big boy. So yeah, pace is looking good. You know, I think they're well coached, they're deep. They got guys there. Do they have what it takes to knock off the national champions in the NA10? We shall see. Yeah, it's coming up.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, you what other games do you watch? You watched one that I didn't watch.

SPEAKER_03

I watched the Emory Riddle Newberry game because Kev, we talked about them a little bit last week. Both teams are sitting at 3-3, 4-3, somewhere around there, and they were looking for their identity. And both teams are kind of pretty good teams, but this was a great game. Emory Riddle pulled it off 11-10, and it was a really well-played game between these two teams. I felt that they matched up well, and it was just a good game back and forth. Newberry jumped out to a 4-0 lead. They were on a four-goal run, boom, right out of the gate. And Emory Riddle didn't even get on the board until like four minutes in the first quarter. Like it was a while. Eagles scored again on the ensuing faceoff, and the first quarter ended 4 2 Newberry. Okay. Nice feel out first quarter. You know what I mean? The second quarter saw both defenses start to dig in a little bit. Newberry only scored twice in the period, and Emory Riddle scored only once in the period. Yeah, so it was like a it was getting tight, and Newberry still led at half six to three. The third quarter saw Emory Riddle explode on offense, scoring five goals. Trade Dring, Lucas Anthony, and Nabis all buried biscuits. Ace Nichols buried one for the Wolves, and after three, Emory Riddle Eagles led 8-7. So that was a really big third quarter for the Eagles. And the fourth quarter saw exciting lacrosse, Kev, because now every possession mattered. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So like the ground balls were a little bit more intense, the checks were coming in a little higher, if you know what I mean. They were coming in a little higher. And uh each team traded goals, each of them scoring three times in the period. And that one goal lead was just enough to give Emory Riddle their biggest win in program history, being that it was the first time that Emory Riddle had beaten a nationally ranked team. So and then today. Yeah, as we record, after before we recorded, yeah. Just ended a half hour ago, Emory Riddle upset Malloy today. So they've won back to back against nationally ranked teams. Does Emory Riddle find its way into the top 20? I don't know. We'll find out. But it was a good game, and Emory Riddle came out on top 11-10 over the Newberry. And Newberry drops the four-three, and Emory Riddle, after their two two wins, are at 5-3.

SPEAKER_05

So the Emory Riddle is one of those teams like we talked about at the beginning, is starting to find their identity as they move through the season.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know, Coach Jezz has a couple of his guys there now, and he's able to start to form the cake. He's got the ingredients, you know, and he's starting to form that cake, and it's coming to fruition. I think another year, you know, with some more recruits for Coach Jezz. I mean, I think that's uh ceilings high over there in every riddle. I think.

SPEAKER_05

Exactly. Exactly. Okay, let's move on to our game of the week. And that was Lenore Ryan sitting at number six against limestone number three. And you said it in the top ten roundup. Limestone took it to him 16 to 6. And you said it last week. You said that Limestone was gonna spank him. And I said I thought it was gonna be close. And I will tell you, I was patting myself on the back after the half. It was six four after the half. I'm patting myself on the back. And then Limestone just took it to him. Here's what I would say total domination by them in the second half. And here's what I kind of four pieces that I kind of felt was the the reasons. They mainly nullify Mancini at the face-off dot in the second half. Made a big difference. He actually had a good day at the at the face-off. He played well. He played well, but if you look, I had to go back because I thought it wasn't as good. And I remember I was watching the second half. He was at 50% or less than 50% in the second half. Limestone's swarming defense, especially in the middle of the offensive field, with quick slides, really shut down that middle and helped them win ground balls. That was another one. Third, they had great ball movement on offense. They started to move LRD and get to the open man. And finally, Corey Lyons with 23 saves, he had a 79% save percentage in that game.

SPEAKER_03

Corey Lyons was the man of the day on that lacrosse field. By far, he was the best guy on the field. If it wasn't for Corey Lyons, I don't know if that game would have been the same game. Because if you want to go over team stats, you're going to be surprised at this, ready?

SPEAKER_05

No, I have them down, Danny. I was surprised too.

SPEAKER_03

LR outshot them 50 to 38, had almost half the turnovers that Limestone had. They were perfect on clears, LR, and Limestone was 24 for 28. They had more ground balls than limestone. They beat, they won more face-offs than Limestone. The only difference was uh LR was one for four on the extra man, and Limestone was two for four on the extra man. Not that big of a difference, but yeah. Yeah, but like if you looked at those stats before the game, you're like, and how did LR lose? Well, I'll tell you how LR lost. They couldn't stop Limestone's offense. They couldn't stop him. Yeah. And Corey Lyons stopped everything that he saw. Yeah. He stopped everything that he saw. Although LR looked good in that first quarter, like you said, Mr. Pat yourself on the back. Limestone defense took over, only allowing Lenore Ryan to score only three more goals in the entire game, Kev. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And I really saw it, I really saw it every time they try to get the ball in the middle, there were like at least three limestone defenders with their sticks right there. They just collapsed on it. They would just collapse quickly. Like they were all slid and they had no response to that.

SPEAKER_03

Limestone slides fast, they slide quick, and then they recover quick.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So you, if you're faster than limestone, I don't think there's too many teams out there faster than them. There's maybe, maybe two or three teams maybe that can match that speed, but I don't know many that are faster than them. Limestone's defense looks very, very good. Again, their only loss is a one-goal loss to number one Tampa.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. One goal.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So Limestone is as good as anybody in the country. And if you ask me right now, I think they should be at number two over a Delphi. I just think they have a much better resume. They've had a harder game, they've had better games. They've they just they look better than a Delphi looks. They look faster. I mean, just that's just one guy's opinion, one knucklehead, you know. But Limestone, I mean, Zach Terry with four, Mason uh Carfello with two, Austin Lamero with two, Caden O'Neagy with two, Carter Kaczynski. I like that kid, man. I like that kid. He reminds me, I don't know who, but he's good. Grant Rogers with two, uh, Brad David with two, Kyler Dunny was six for twelve at the dot, and Dylan Cox three for eleven at the dot. Yeah, not so bad. But Corey Lyons in between the pipes with the 23 saves was ridiculous. Uh for LR, Nate Serrano with two, Evan Voss with two, Cooper Stark, uh Jared Huff each with one. Matt Mancini was 11 for 19. I thought he played well.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Nick Floyd had one save, was pulled. I they can't find there. I don't know if Coach Paradine has too much uh faith in either one of those guys. They're not playing at the level they've had before. And he's pulling them fast. Like he's not like he's not letting them suffer too long. Like he's just pulling them, boom.

SPEAKER_05

The team stats and saves. Limestone, Corey Lyons, 23 saves. LR, Peterson Floyd, five saves.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, between the two of them. Hey, and Donnie Powell held scoreless. I think he had one, I think he had one assist. He was trying. He had a couple of turnovers. I think he was trying too hard. You know, sometimes when those those teams that have been winning and winning and they go down by three, four, five goals, they start to depress. Yeah, they start to do things that they don't normally do. And I think Donnie was trying to like maybe win it all back fast and getting the ball checked. I I thought that that game got a little physical. You know, they got there was some uh there was some asses in the dirt in that game.

SPEAKER_05

If you think of it though, Danny, they were shutting them down for a while. I mean, the the game really didn't get away from them until halfway th through the third, if not, you know, maybe even the fourth. It just all of a sudden you look at it, it's like, oh, they scored again. They stopped Lenore Ryan. And it was then a a ten goal run. You know, by about that after the fifth goal, and you see it again, it's almost like it's a not that I saw a defeatist attitude in Lenore Ryan, but come on, that's gotta be so deflated.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, man. They're not used to that. No, they are not.

SPEAKER_05

They're used to being the team that does that.

SPEAKER_03

Right, exactly. And now Lenore Ryan's won two lost two in a row.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I w wonder when was the last time a Lenore Ryan Bear team lost two games in a row? I have to check that. Probably been a while. Probably been a while.

SPEAKER_05

Because they don't lose too many games. No, I'd have to say maybe 2019. I'd have to probably go back. 2019 is the the the year I would think. I don't know if they lost two in a row. I don't know if they did either. I'm saying that I remember that in the the sack tournament and during other play that I don't know if they lost two in a row either. But it it it just but that's on that's the first year I can think. I'd have to go back and look. They may not have. It may have been well before that.

SPEAKER_03

You know, I I keep saying, you know, I I know that LR team pretty well. I watched them a lot over the years. Um I I I'm a fan of Coach Paradine. I think what he does there is great. I mean, he puts together phenomenal teams that do phenomenal things on the on the lacrosse field. And this year, they're just missing something. And I think it's on defense. That's what I think. You know, I keep saying that defense is just not the same as it was like the last three years. And now, like you look at you know what they're doing in goal, you know, it just show I don't know how much faith Coach Paradine. I saw I saw uh frustration on Coach P's face the other day. He's not used to being down four or five goals. They're just not, you know.

SPEAKER_05

Well, like I said, we've seen that this year a little bit where they've been down. Maybe not always four or five goals, but they were down. They were down against Rollins. I think they were down against U Wendy, and they don't they didn't panic. They don't panic and they come back.

SPEAKER_03

This time was just a total roll reversal. I mean And you know what? And and little and limestone was getting physical with them. They were knocking guys down, man. There was one point when Mancini got rocked. I mean, it was a three-minute unreleasable for that. And guess what? Limestone killed the penalty. Yeah, they killed it. A three-minute unreleasable. Yeah. I mean, they were they were there to win that game, man. They were not going home a loss, no matter what.

SPEAKER_05

And we talked about this, right? 32 new players on Lenore Ryan. They started off really well this year, even in games where they were behind their the way Coach P gets that team ready and prepared, like you said, they didn't panic. They played LR ball, they stuck with it, and they won. This, I was waiting for that. End of the third quarter, beginning of the final. I was. I was waiting for them to come back. And limestone just shut them down.

SPEAKER_03

Corey Lyons. He stopped everything, nothing got by him. He just they scored one goal in the second, LR. They scored one goal in the third and one goal in the fourth. That's not LR. That's not LR.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, and the time difference between the goal in the third and the goal in the fourth was many, many, many minutes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So, Mr. Corey Lyons, I mean, I think uh Coach Storia should take him out to dinner, man.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because he he played he played outstanding. Anyone who's ever taken a kid to a morning travel game knows how important that travel cup of coffee is. When it's intercoffee hits your nose, you'll forget how early it is to think you're at home.com.com.com. A better way to turn it.

Games to watch this week

SPEAKER_05

All right, let's move to next week. What games are you looking at?

SPEAKER_03

Okay, Kev. Again, this is uh a week where a lot of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday games are going on. Spring break. Some northern teams are going down south to play. So they're trying to get games in during the week. So some of the games that I like are gonna be played by the time this uh this uh podcast drops, but I want to see the St. Leo, Colorado Mesa game on Thursday.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so this will already be out. So people listen early. Listen early to get that. I have it on my list too, St. Leo, Colorado Mesa. That'll be a good game. I've got I've got on Friday, we already talked about it. Last game under the lights at Flagler for this season. That's Flagler, who's at number eight right now against Malloy, who was number 14 and will be number 14 when this game is played still, because the USILA won't be out. Now Malloy just had their first loss.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. 12-9 they lost.

SPEAKER_05

What do they do against Flagler? I still think this is gonna be a good game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think so too. I think Flagler's gonna have the edge, I think, a little bit, playing uh at home.

SPEAKER_05

At home, you know, with their home crowd.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they got after it at home. Yeah. I agree.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, where else are you looking?

SPEAKER_03

And the only other game that really kind of piques my interest at all is the Adelphi Bentley game, but I think Adelphi's gonna win that pretty handily. Okay, I've got I've got that's but that's a matchup.

SPEAKER_05

Right. That's a matchup that I give the edge to Adelphi. Bentley is a very solid team. So, I mean, they've got to play a flawless game, and and a Delphi has got to I mean, like if I and I can't believe they wouldn't be. A Delphi's always prepared. So I I agree with you, but Bentley, if they play a flawless game, is it at is it at Adelphi? I think so. Hang on, let me check. It's on Sunday. Yes, Sunday's game. Yeah, it's at a Delphi.

SPEAKER_03

I might go to that game.

SPEAKER_05

That would be a good game to watch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I might go to that one. We'll see. We'll see. Okay, I'll see how I feel.

SPEAKER_05

I I've got two other games, both on Saturday. One is Monte Valo against Maryville. Look at Monte Valo now in the top 20. They are 7-2 and just beat another GLVC team, William Jewell. They go against a better GLVC team, Maryville, at 5-3. They lost to St. Leo, but beat Rollins. Rollins is not the same team because of a lot of injuries and other things, but Meryville definitely does not want to end their spring break on a loss. No. And so I think, but I think this is going to be a close game. Montevallo already beat Undy. That's right. So they can beat, it's not just the William Jewels of, you know, and William Jewels is a good team, but they're not at that U Indy level yet, and they beat Undy. So this, I think, is going to be a good game. The last game on my list is also on Saturday. It's an early evening game. And it is UDC hosting Virginia State. Yeah. Awesome. Second battle of the HBCUs. Second year in a row. I plan on being there. Okay. Last year, I went down to Petersburg for the game. A little bit of a haul for me. They treated me great. I haven't reached out to the coaches yet, which I'm going to do tomorrow. This is in my backyard, right in D.C. It's a half hour away. 5 p.m. game. That'd be great. Sounds good. Rain or shine, I hope to be there.

SPEAKER_03

I like Virginia State in this one.

Game of the Week

SPEAKER_03

Howdy, folks. And this is the end of the week. Bringing you to the in the weekly stuff.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, let's go to game of the week, Danny. Who do we have this week?

SPEAKER_03

Our game of the week this week, Kev, I think it's going to be a good one. Seton Hill versus Pace.

SPEAKER_05

It's going to be a very good game. Now, in the rankings, Pace is number four, and Seton Hill is number seven. Yeah. I don't know. Seton Hill looks awfully, awfully strong. Pace is an experienced team that also does not panic. If you look at the game against Malloy, and if you look at the game against Assumption, they do not panic. They play their game, they end up winning.

SPEAKER_03

But I think Seton Hill has firepower they haven't seen yet. Yes, Pace has not seen a team like Seton Hill yet. No, not as far as I'm concerned. Seton Hill's gonna be a good game. That's gonna be a good one. These guys are gonna go after it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I agree. You know the last time I saw Seton Hill was at the Crown Classic. I wasn't at the Crown Classic, but I watched it. And I tell you, Tampa was better that day. But Seton Hill has got athletes on all parts of the field.

SPEAKER_03

Seton Hill was competitive in that game. They were competitive against the number one team in the country.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You know, they were competitive. It wasn't a rollover. No. And Seton Hill's a good team. So I think Pace better watch out. They better come with their A game because Seton Hill is a good squad. They're both good squads.

SPEAKER_05

So I think it's probably a pick'em for me. I don't think I would not be surprised at all if Seton Hill comes out on that game. And it's at Seton Hill.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's gonna be a tough one. I can't I can't pick one on this one. This is a pick'em game for me. Yeah, I agree.

Player's SPotlight

SPEAKER_03

Now it's time for the players to spotlight. And now it's our player spotlight.

SPEAKER_05

Time for the player spotlight. My favorite part, Kev. My favorite part. I know, I know. Danny, you know we love our goalies. Our first player spotlight ever was with a goalie. CJ Hart. CJ Hart of St. Anselm. So it's kind of surprising we haven't had one on yet this season. But that changes all tonight. And this goalie, who's now a junior, has been starting for esteem, his team since his freshman year. And he has been racking up the Peach Belt accolades since then. Including because we don't have time to go through all of them, Danny. We'd be here, you know, the podcast would be two hours long. Including freshman of the year when he was a freshman. And now get this this year, he already has five games with 18 saves or better. That's crazy. Including last night's game or yesterday's game. We are recording on Monday, so on Sunday, he had 19 saves, and he was named Peach Belt Defensive Player of the Week. Yeah, man. He's a baller. He is. Well, let's just bring him in. Alex Agorshian of the Montevallo Falcons. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Hey guys. How's it going?

SPEAKER_03

Alex Agorshian, you are just insane. How many career saves you have in three years?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I don't know. It's up there, man. It's up there.

SPEAKER_03

It's up there, man. Well, thanks so much for coming on the program tonight. We really appreciate you coming on. Um, you have stepped on the field as a freshman at Montevallo and just been amazing between the pipes for them. You're the big, you're a big reason why they do so well. How does that make you feel? Uh, like you're you're you're like a junior now and you you've become a captain kind of leader on that defense. Let's talk about some Montevallo lacrosse.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it's awesome. I'm uh I just getting to do what I love every day. Like I'm having a great time. Um, and it's not just me, obviously. Like my defense is awesome. They're giving me everything I want to see, so that's a huge part of like my success comes from them. So yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So I have to ask you this why the heck goalie? How did you choose that? Did you start off somewhere else, or did you say I want to be in the pipe between the pipes to begin with?

SPEAKER_00

So I started playing when I was I was five years old. My older brother was a face-off guy. Um, so I wanted to follow in his footsteps. And so I the first four years that I played, I was uh like a face-off stay-on kind of player.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and I hated running so much, like I couldn't stand it. So I was like, Mom, I want to be a goalie. And I tried it out one day in a game and I did well, and I was like, I need to play goalie. And my older brother, he was still playing at the time, so he was like, Yeah, it gives me someone to shoot on in the backyard. So that's where it all started.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now you say it started at five years old, and you're from Hoover, Alabama.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, sir.

SPEAKER_03

That's where you grew up. They had lacrosse in Hoover.

SPEAKER_00

Really? There, it's not very big. And the GBYLA uh is the Greater Birmingham Youth La Crosse Association. They have, I believe it's 14 teams in all of Alabama. Um it's always been around that like 10 to 15 number. It's some years it's bigger, some years it's smaller. Um, but yeah, it's it's definitely grown a bit though.

SPEAKER_05

But playing at five is like like I've never heard I didn't think I was gonna ask you when you started for Alabama. How does it feel being a homegrown player representing Alabama at an Alabama school?

SPEAKER_00

It's it's awesome. Like that was one thing. Like trying to get recruited out of Alabama is pretty difficult because like you send an email to a coach and they see the first thing in your subject line is that you're from Alabama. Yeah, like who is this kid? So right, right, right.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but you you I'll let you finish that in a second, but you know what? There's plenty of coaches right now kicking themselves.

SPEAKER_00

The uh I've always kind of used that as like a chip on my shoulder, like always work harder, just like go out and show them what I can do, kind of thing.

SPEAKER_05

That's great, that's great, and now, but uh, it's interesting because and we talked to to coach Coach Lang about this. He pulls guys because where you are in Alabama, you basically have to travel from anywhere, even in the state, you know, you've got to travel several hours, a lot of times to get there. In fact, I was gonna go visit you guys when I was near Fort Rucker doing some work. I'm like, damn, that's like two and a half hours away. I can't I can't even get there. So he pulls guys from Canada. He's like, they're gonna have to travel anyway. So they might as well travel from Canada down here. And there's only like five guys from Alabama on your team. Is that about right?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, something like that. It's not not a lot. So you have to represent.

SPEAKER_05

That's what I was gonna ask you next. What's it like having your younger brother on the team with you now?

SPEAKER_00

It's awesome. Uh, we got to play with each other for about a year and a half in high school. Um, but my senior year, he tore his ACL about halfway through the season, so that got cut short. Oh wow. But when he committed to Monteval, I was super ecstatic getting to be able to play with him again.

SPEAKER_03

You can show him the ropes, he was comfortable, you know, kind of been there, watched Big Brother come to a couple of games with mom and dad, felt comfortable. I know how that feels.

SPEAKER_05

What drew you to Monte Valo? Was it because it was uh uh in-state school or was it other things also?

SPEAKER_00

Um at first I was like, it's close to home, I'll like go check out a game. And I like I didn't know anything about Montevalo la Crosse. Um, so I one of my friends was actually committed to UAH, and uh yeah, he was like, I'm going to watch this Monte Valo game if you want to come, because it was in Monte Valo. That's only about 45 minutes from my house. So I was like, sure, I'll come watch. Um and I watched them play, and I was like, dang, this is some high-level lacrosse going on here. Yep, and then that was in 2021, I think. So I went to that first UAH game, and then I went to the championship game where they played UAH, and I was like, Yeah, yeah, this is awesome.

SPEAKER_03

And you just wanted to be a part of that like situation, part of that, like knowing that feel that the crowd, the night game, the whole thing. It was like, yeah, yeah. I remember that game. I remember that game.

SPEAKER_05

We talked about that game, Danny. That was it was the best thing about that, Alex, was where the camera and the mics were, you were right where the crowd was and the and the the players. I mean, it was so loud, and you could tell when when the game was over, just the excitement from the team winning the game was just it was amazing to watch. It was one of the best conference championship games I had seen.

SPEAKER_03

It was you know what? And it was surprising to me because being a northeaster, I'm not used to seeing that deep south kind of lacrosse and seeing how good that game was and seeing how the crowd was involved and how big it was and how many people were there and the hooting and hollering that was going on. It was just it was a great thing for Division II lacrosse. That was the Beach Belt's first conference, right? The first year in conference. It was, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_05

All right, so let's turn to your team a little bit. You guys sit seven and two with a great win against you, Indy. A great that was a great game. How were you feeling about this season?

SPEAKER_00

Uh coming into it, we were just like we lot, we knew we lost a lot of talent. Um, we graduated a lot of like starting seniors, guys that contributed. Um we were really just looking for who was gonna step up. And we've had a lot of guys step up and step into like fill in their shoes. And I feel like this year we've just been such a close group, like it feels like we could take anybody on.

SPEAKER_05

Right, right. That's awesome. Well, now what do you think about Peach Belt play coming up?

SPEAKER_00

I'm excited. This year is probably the deepest the peach belt has ever been. Like the talent, like if you look compared to a few years ago to now, like we have two out of the four teams are ranked, and one of them's on the one on the edge. So it's gonna be fun. I'm I'm looking forward to it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Danny and I talked about this in our conference previews. You know, you lost a couple teams recently, Young Harris, and Shorter, but if you look at the teams that are left, there is not one team that you can say is a slouch. Like they're they they are all four teams that are gonna compete uh against each other. It's just gonna be a battle, I think, every game in Peach Belt Conference play.

SPEAKER_03

You know, there their only two losses are to a one goal loss to St. Leo, ranked, who's playing very, very well, yeah, and a one goal loss to Belmont Abbey, who another team that just snuck into the top 20. So your only two losses are by two goals. That's you know, you're talking about a ground ball, a pipe, could have been a different situation. So that, you know, that that seven and two record could be nine and oh, you know, very easily. So I think Montevallo's got a great team. You got a couple of big games coming up, though, you know? So what do you think about playing uh getting ready for the tournament and getting ready for this peach belt, like Kevin said, it's so tight now. What do you what what's the team attitude towards that? What does coach talk about?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we're uh we're we try to focus more inward because we know that every team that we're gonna play against is gonna give us their best. So we just gotta focus more on like what we're doing. And when we play our game, like we know we can play with anybody. So it's really just that inward focus, really.

SPEAKER_05

Well said. So let me ask you this. You said it earlier in the podcast. You talked about your defense is giving you the shots you want. Is there is there a a deep hole that's running that? Are you are you captaining and and being the quarterback of the defense back there and and trying to be the most who's the most communicative on that defense? Or do you all share it?

SPEAKER_00

For the most part, we share it, but I'd probably say if you had to choose one guy, it'd be 46, James Trainer.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, why is that?

SPEAKER_00

It that was like his big thing. He was always like, I'm gonna make sure I'm the loudest one that you can always hear me. So he's he's definitely the one. Like, I'm kind of telling guys where the ball is at. He's like kind of running everything else.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. So he's trying to get people ready for the slide and the recover and everything else, like that. That's awesome. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Montevallo Falcon's doing good stuff. So coming up, coming up, let's see, looking at the schedule. Got Meryville, it's gonna be a tough game. Malone, Walsh, Lander, Flagler, gonna be a good game. And then UAH, you got a really good chance of like doing some big damage here and getting yourself into that tournament and doing well in the Peach Belt tournament. Now, this year, the Peach Belt kind of joins up with the RMAC at the end to get that automatic qualifier. So it's a it brings a little bit more intrigue into it, don't you think, Alex?

SPEAKER_00

It does. It does.

SPEAKER_03

What do you think about automatic qualifiers? Like, what do you think about that? Are you happy about that?

SPEAKER_00

Or I I mean, anything that gets us a path to the tournament, I I'll take. Right. That's like like those accolades you guys were talking about earlier. I would give all of those up to make it to the tournament and get a championship.

SPEAKER_05

Right. Excellent. That's well said. Do you think it has provided extra incentive for your team? Or, like you said, you don't even think about that, you go more inward. Um extra incentive to try to get to that, get that automatic qualifier. Is that just extra incentive to as you prepare and everything?

SPEAKER_00

There definitely is more incentive now that we have like a clear-cut path, not like you have to go 14-0 or 15-0 to get to the tournament. Like it feels like it kind of takes a little bit of the pressure off, but like we're still gonna give everything we have at all times, and just it is still that inward focus. Like, we're making sure we're doing what we need to do to make sure we get there.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I love that. I uh we Danny and I talked about this all before, where they're when even before they it was decided where they were gonna do automatic qualifiers, and we thought it was coming. I I think it's gonna be so great to see someone from the peach belt or the RMAC in NCAA play and see what they can do. Because I I think that's the uh the ultimate test, right? You there's a ton of good teams in the RMAC. We already talked about the four teams that are in the peach belt. There there is no bad team, and so there's a lot that um I think is is gonna be really cool to see how that plays out. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Should be interesting. All right, Alex, let me ask you on some scholastic stuff. What's your major? What are you majoring in?

SPEAKER_00

Uh so I major in chemistry.

SPEAKER_03

Chemistry? Oh my lord. I think you're the first chemistry major we've had on. Everybody else has been a physical ed major or sports medicine major. So uh chemistry. Well, well, what what in any specific field?

SPEAKER_00

So after I finish here at Monteval, I plan to go to pharmacy school.

SPEAKER_03

Uh wow. There you go. Awesome. Awesome. Smart, smart. Mom and dad agorson did the right thing. He's gonna be a pharmacist and make big bucks.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, can you do that at Monteval or do you have to go somewhere else? I'd have to go somewhere else. Okay, okay. All right, that's awesome now. That's a great well. Now that we have the chemist in the room, Danny, that means he's much smarter than us. Do you think he's ready for the firing round? I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

He's ready. He looks like he's ready. All right, ladies and gentlemen. Here we have Alex Agorshin, the keeper between the pipes for the Montevallo Falcons. He's a junior from Hoover, Alabama. Is it uh Roll Tide or War Damn Eagles in that house?

SPEAKER_00

Um, so actually, I'm neither. Uh I'm an Ole Miss fan.

SPEAKER_03

Oh you're right outside of Tuscaloosa. Well, that's great. We're gonna throw some some more questions in, but you started it off great. That was great. Okay, here we go. Question number one Mom's best meal.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's a tough one. I'm gonna I forgot what it's called. I haven't had it in a while, but she for my birthday, she used to make um this chicken with cream of mushroom soup, with um this other kind of meat. I don't know what you call it, but it you eat it with rice, it's so good. I sounds good. My mom's my mom's not from here, so it has a weird name, and I don't remember what it is.

SPEAKER_03

Where's mom from?

SPEAKER_00

She's from Panama.

SPEAKER_03

Panama? Okay, both folks, both of your folks from Panama?

SPEAKER_00

They're not. My my dad's from Russia, actually.

SPEAKER_03

Your dad's from Russia, and your mom's from Panama. That's very interesting. Now, were you you were born in this country? You were born here? I was in Hoover, Alabama.

SPEAKER_00

I was born in Birmingham, yes.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. So do you speak Spanish at all? Does your mom still speak Spanish?

SPEAKER_00

My mom does speak Spanish, I don't. Ah. You gotta teach you. I need to learn.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's some interesting stuff, Alex Agorsian. All right. Second, second question: Xbox or PlayStation?

SPEAKER_00

Um, I'm Xbox.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Question number three: runs or lifts? We already told us you don't like to run.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely lifts.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, here we go. Early bird or night owl? Night owl. Night owl. What's your go-to midnight snack?

SPEAKER_00

Ooh. It changes, but this year probably cheese it.

SPEAKER_03

Cheese it. That's a staple.

SPEAKER_05

That's a college staple right there.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, next question. ESPN or Netflix?

SPEAKER_00

ESPN for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Favorite sport outside of lacrosse?

SPEAKER_00

Hockey.

SPEAKER_03

Hockey. What's your favorite team?

SPEAKER_00

The Washington Capitals.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah. That's my man. Oh, yeah. That's my man.

SPEAKER_03

You are a very confusing young man.

SPEAKER_04

I know.

SPEAKER_03

Dad's from Russia, mom's from Panama, grew up in Alabama, likes old miss. Doesn't loves old miss and likes the caps. Insane. It's cool though. All right. Um, are you a do-it-right away guy or a procrastinator?

SPEAKER_00

I'm one of the worst procrastinators there is.

SPEAKER_03

That's hysterical. Okay, your favorite class so far at Montevallo? Ooh.

SPEAKER_00

That's tough. Probably this one's tough, but probably cell biology.

SPEAKER_03

Cell biology. Yeah. Kev, it's above my pay grade.

SPEAKER_04

I can't even go any farther than that.

SPEAKER_03

It's above my pay grade. And who who's your favorite professor so far at Montevala?

SPEAKER_00

Um it's probably gotta be Dr. Berg. He was uh my analytical chemistry professor.

SPEAKER_03

Dr. Berg, yeah, or is he a cool guy? Just a kind of cool guy, down to earth kind of guy.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That sounds great. All right. One person who helped you on your lacrosse journey in Alabama.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, there's been a lot, but um big one is uh Randy Nace.

SPEAKER_03

Randy Nace. And what is what was he involved with?

SPEAKER_00

Um so he used to coach my older brother's high school team, and then he got offered the head coaching job at their uh like one of their rival schools. So he took the head coach job there. Um, but he also coaches like travel ball, and he's he played goalie at Lynchburg. Oh wow. Uh so he's taught me pretty much everything goalie. Wow, so I owe a ton to him, and he's still a mentor to me today.

SPEAKER_03

That sounds great. That's awesome. That's a good person to have. What music is on your hype pregame list?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, I've got a pretty big mixture. I got a little bit of rap, a lot of classic rock, mostly cat classic rock.

SPEAKER_03

Mostly classic rock. You got an old soul, huh?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Who's the funniest kid on the team at Montevala?

SPEAKER_00

We got a lot of a lot of funny guys, but um, I'll probably go Gage Ferris.

SPEAKER_03

Gage Ferris, he's a funny guy. He is. All right, cool. Who was the one kid on the team you would never let date your sister?

SPEAKER_00

We had this we had this question on our whiteboard in the locker room a couple of days ago. Gosh. We have 70 guys, so it's hard to choose. Um that's a tough one. Johnny John Morris, there you go. John Morris. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Tell us one thing that not many people know about Alex Agorship.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh. Let's see. I don't know. I'm pretty pretty boring, but uh I like to build Legos.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. There you go. There you go. Okay. Give us one thing on your bucket list.

SPEAKER_00

Um try to go on a trip to like Hawaii or something.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, there you go. That's a good one. Last but not least, give us your best impression of Coach Lang.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I gotta I gotta be careful here. I don't want to get in trouble. No, you won't get in trouble.

SPEAKER_05

I'll call him.

SPEAKER_00

I'll call him.

SPEAKER_03

Um go ahead, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

Where's the East West? Where's the East West? He says that all the time, and he that's one of his sayings. He always he always goes for that one.

SPEAKER_03

Well, Alex Agoshi, you did a great job in the firing round. We really appreciate it. Hey, you were a great guest tonight. Thank you so much for coming on tonight with the two knuckleheads and in the crease. You did a great job.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you guys so much for having me. It was awesome being here.

Shout outs

SPEAKER_05

First goalie this year in the player spotlight. What do you think, Danny?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's like number seven in the country, Kev, for like save percentage. Such a quiet, easy-going kid, right? Like smart, you know, chemistry major.

SPEAKER_05

Chemistry major. Definitely his favorite class. What was his favorite class?

SPEAKER_03

I can't even pronounce it. I can't even pronounce it. But, you know, and then he's just stopping every ball that he sees. And Montevallo. You know what? They've been a good team for a couple of years now, Kev. They're in the Peach Bell Conference Championship almost every year now. They are they do damage. They're seven and two. And Alex is a big reason why they're there. I agree. I agree. You know what? I was really, he's a really nice kid. He seemed a little nervous. He seemed a little nervous. But you know what? We we charmed him up a little bit. And uh I think he's gonna do great things uh in life. He just looks like one of those kids that's just gonna do well for himself.

SPEAKER_05

He's very calm, which makes him a great goalie. He is calm. He was calm when he talked to us. He's calm in between the pipes. I don't think he lets it bother when a goalie goal goes by. He gets ready for the next one. Yeah, you're gonna have a short-term memory when you're a goalie, right? Yeah, yeah. So it was great having him on our first goalie of the of the season. I'm sure we'll find another one or two to get in there because they're always fun to have. All right, now it's time to turn to shout outs. Do you have any? I have no shout-outs this week, guess. Okay. I've got three. The first shout-out, and I think you're gonna like this one. Coach Jorgensen of St. Leo recorded his 200th win versus Maryville. Yay, coach! Congratulations. There is no one more deserving than that. He's a good man. He's a good man. Yes, he is. Next one, next shout-out goes to Sebastian Simonson, who broke the career points record at St. Michael's tallying 174. Here's the even better thing, Danny. The previous record was held by Mike Ridell or Rydell since 1988. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

Sebastian broke a long old record, didn't he?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and I'm sure Mr. Riddell was like, that is great. That tells me the team is improving, and they are improving, and it was great to see. My last shout out goes to Talon Heath of Malone. He has recorded 200 career points. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

That's insane. Yeah. I mean, just to get 60 or 80 in your career. Yeah. Then you get 100, and then it's like 110, 130, 175, 200? That's that's talent. Talon, Talon has talent. Yes, he does.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, he does. Good job, Talon. And then so finally, just a reminder, our sponsors, we want to thank them. The D2 Showcase and Shad Coffee and Lids. Thank you so much for your sponsorship. Please, if you're listening to this, check them out. You can find their web uh sites on in our notes pages. You know, take care of them as they take care of us. That's right, Kev. Good job. And so with that last note, Danny, for this week, that's a wrap. That's a wrap, Kev.
