SPEAKER_01

Hey Kev, how's it going in Northern Virginia tonight? What's happening? Well, you know what's happening. It's like lacrosse junkie time. I mean, we had games tonight as we record on Tuesday night that you were out, just came back from one. I was watching it low streaming, and we'll definitely get to that in a second. How you doing?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good man. I was on the road this week. Kind of saw a couple of big games, you know, in a couple of days. So it's been a good, good week, busy week.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but kind of shot, kind of exhausted a little bit, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, you had that long travel day back where you got stuck in the airport because of weather. That's never fun.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know, when you're getting on the airplane five minutes after you were supposed to land in New York, you know, like it's a long day. I was in the airport like five and a half hours. So, but you know what? That's the price you pay for traveling on on the weekends. You never know. It was weather, actually, all weather related.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Anyone from on the south and on the eastern seaboard got smashed with those thunderstorms on a Saturday night. Started in the south. I got stuck in the south this more uh that morning and uh and got stuck in the north that night. So it was a long day, but hey, it was a memory, good memory.

SPEAKER_01

There we go. And we can talk about uh all those games because Danny, there seemed to be a lot of shakeup

Top 10 Roundup

SPEAKER_01

in the top 10 due to the results of the games, some of which you were at this past week. So let's get to that top 10 roundup.

SPEAKER_02

The top 10 roundup. All right, Kev, quite the week this week, but I'm gonna go off last week's top 10. All right. That doesn't make sense. Number one, Lemoyne beat Franklin Pierce rather handily 22 to 7, and Lemoyne still stands undefeated, Kevin. A Delphi in the big game, the big upset of the year, maybe in Division II, lost to Bentley 13 and 11 in a really good game. Yeah. Another big loss comes to number three, UIndy, lost to Wingate 14 to 9 in a real good game. We'll go to number four, Wingate beat UI 14 to 9. So there you go.

SPEAKER_01

I just talking about the shakeup.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there we go. There's a couple shakeups coming up. Number five, Rollins beat Florida Tech in a really tight contested game, Kevin. This was a good one. 15 to 12. Uh Lenore Ryan beat Coker 13 to 1. Oof, oof. That's tough. That's a tough day for Coker. Uh number seven, Tampa beat a good Seton Hill. 10 to 8. A two-goal game, Kev. Number eight, Mercyhurst beat Frostburg state-like spanked them, Kevin. 21 to 10. 21 to 10. Wow. Uh, number nine, Mercy. Um, they beat St. Thomas Aquinas 17 to 4 for the beating on them boys. And number 10, St. A's beat Pace in a tight one, Kev. 10-9. And that's your top 10 rounder.

Week in Review

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so that was a shakeup. And a lot of those games, like you just pointed out, we'll get to a few of them because what I would saw from this past weekend, and even up until tonight's game, Danny, a lot of close matchups, really close, that had a lot of conference and NCAA tourney implications.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, 100%. I couldn't agree with you more, man. There's this one of those. Hey, we're coming to that time. It's that time of year. It's 20 time. You got the top 10, maybe the you know, the top 12 in the country, maybe looking at trying to get into the NCAAs now. I think most of the big boys have separated themselves from the bunch. Uh, but you know what? I honestly think it's anybody's it's up to anybody's.

SPEAKER_01

It's still, but let's let's start off with the game that happened tonight, the one that we weren't gonna record on tonight, but because it started at five, we could actually get some of a recording in after the game, and you were there live. It was you didn't talk about the top 10 because you went through last week's, but a Delphi played Lemoyne. Lemon Lemoyne came to a Delphi, and Lemoyne wins 10 to 9. You played Danny. Lemoyne came back.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, Lemoyne came back.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's the amazing thing, Danny. A Delphi came out like they were on a mission, they came out start off five zip. But you know what? Lemoyne. This is what I wrote, probably a little bit, you know, Monday morning quarterback as you see the end of the game, but as you watched them, right? They are methodical, they are patient, and they are disciplined. And that's how they came back. They did not get, they didn't start to press. No, they kept on. If they had the ball on offense and down five zip, they just kept on working that ball till the end of the clock. And their defense after that first half, man, were they disciplined. You could, I mean, a Delphi couldn't barely get anything off. They got two goals in a row. I thought, okay, here they come back. But Lemoyne's defense really stifled them in the second half.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, I couldn't agree with you more. We talk about Coach Sheen and that defense. Oh my gosh. That the Dolphins just they stir it up, man. They just they can play lockdown. Let me tell you something. Adelphi is a really, really, really good team. Really good team. That was probably the best Division II lacrosse game I watched all year. It was fast, it was physical, it had great goalie play. Both both Dylan Renner and Vavanese for Lemoyne were phenomenal in goal. Both defenses were outstanding. Yeah. Outstanding. Both sides, both sides. Yeah, yeah. You know, and and and Delphi jumped out to that four, five, nothing quick lead. It was like, uh oh, wow. And I said to my buddy Chris Dore, who was sitting next to me. Uh I said to Chris, I said, I want to see a game. I don't want to see this. And then then um Delphi put another one up there, and I was like, wow. And then finally Lemoyne scored their first goal.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was 5-1 after after one, but then at half it was 6-4. Right.

SPEAKER_02

They started chipping, they started chipping back. But you know what, Kevin? You really hit the nail on the head because these teams, both of them so disciplined and so well coached, and just making good plays. I have to say, I think Dutch, yeah, Dutchnowski at a Delphi, he's so good. Sometimes I think he tries to push too much, maybe. You know, that's just my eye talking. I never coached, I never played the game. There's just sometimes I just think he pushes too much, but he's so good. He's big, he's strong, he's fast, he can shoot, can shoot. Jason Rabuto for a Delphi, another really, really good player. Kevin, this was a really well-matched game and as good as you can get in Division II. You know what I felt like I was watching? I felt like I was watching the Division I type game tonight.

SPEAKER_01

It's apparent when not only when you look at the score, but you look at it, you know, Lemoyne actually went up by three goals, 10 to 7. And at that point, Danny, I'm thinking to myself, was that the dagger with six minutes left? Because a Delphi couldn't score. Didn't score, they didn't score the entire the third.

SPEAKER_02

Was it the entire third goal?

SPEAKER_01

They did not score. They probably didn't score for like over 20 minutes. They scored one goal in the second, and then they got it their their first back in the fourth. And so a Delphi, you I talked about it with LeMine. They don't they didn't panic. A Delphi didn't really panic either. Now, I agree with you. There's some shots in the third quarter and even in the fourth quarter that I felt like they weren't the best looks that they had. They weren't being as a patient, and maybe they felt they needed to press because Lemoyne's defense was so shut down. They were shutting them down so much. And their defense played so well, there weren't a lot of open looks. But they're down three, Danny, and a Delphi scores the next two goals in less than two minutes. They had to do that. It was like six minutes left. And when I looked on the clock and it was 10 to 9, there was 450 left on the clock. And the real bummer was Lemoine has it on offense for a while. They they can't score. Adelphi brings it down. Coach Purdy calls a timeout. There's like 130 left. They come back from that and they throw the ball away. So LeMine gets a free pass. They get to run down the clock till 18 seconds left. And so now Adelphi has it again, and they're trying to bring it across and clear, and they throw it away again.

SPEAKER_02

But you know what? Hey, great game. Hats off to Le Moyne. Hey, they don't, they're not the sexiest team, Kev, you know, but they got players that can play, and their defense, I don't know what else to say. They're just amazing on defense. Amazing.

SPEAKER_01

That's all they need to do is hang. I think they can hang their hat a lot on their defense. That's the strongest defense. Tonight was the strongest defense I saw them play. I think the strongest defense I've seen any team play this year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know what? I think for both teams it was their hardest test. Right. Each other. Oh, yeah. Okay. Oh, you know, I mean, Adelphi took care of Pace and they took care of St. Anslums. And, you know, we we talked about their schedule. We we think it's favorable. It's a favorable schedule, but they gave number one everything they could handle tonight.

SPEAKER_01

They really did. Yeah. Yeah. Now let's let's talk about the upset for a Delphi over the weekend when Bentley beat them 13-11. That was another really good matchup. I think the Falcons D that day played a phenomenal game against a Delphi. And I think it came down to they both both teams played well on defense again. There were a lot of turnovers. Yeah, I had 17 and a Delphi had 20, which did not help them. That's what I'd say is one of the things that that caused that score the way it ended up.

SPEAKER_02

You know, like Dutchnowski, who's who's a stud, Kevin, he's a stud. He I think he had one goal on five shots against Bentley. I mean, Bentley played really, really well. 11 shots.

SPEAKER_01

11 shots? Yeah. One goal. All right. See, you know, and five turnovers. So they played him well. They they just were gonna that was probably their game plan.

SPEAKER_02

They were double the game. You know, when guys were going to roll back, they were getting doubled and knocking the ball out. And just it was Bentley played really, really good. You know what? Bentley's a good team. I mean, they have four losses and everything. Doesn't mean they stink. No, they're a good team. And you know what? And they proved it. They knocked off number two. That was a big, big game for them. And the Delphi played well.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't think that they No, you're exactly right. It was a very evenly matched game. And it wasn't like neither team made a lot of mistakes. Yeah, the turnovers were a lot, but I think those were really done by the defense, whether they were unforced or not, officially unforced, the defense caused those.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

A lot of times. So a Delphi, you know, so now they've lost two in a row, Kev. They lost two in a row. I didn't think they'd lose to Bentley, but I thought they could have lost to like Mercy and or maybe St. A's. So you know, I'm not surprised that they have two losses. I think they can regroup. I think they're still gonna be tough.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think it hurts them at all. No. Because in the north, in the north, they'll still probably get the two seed because they're gonna have to play tough teams in the NE10, and they're gonna most of the teams they've handled already.

SPEAKER_01

What yeah, what what the commentators said tonight, if I was when I was listening to the game, I think they said if Bentley wins their game tonight, then Bentley gets the two seed. If Bentley loses, a Delphi gets the two seed in the NE ten conference. Wow, okay. Which can make sense based on on records within the NE ten conference schedule. I wouldn't want to play a Delphi. I wouldn't want to play that game. I'll tell you right now, if you if you look at the ones that are at the top of the of the conference, St. Ains, Saint A's, Bentley, Pace, Adelphi, Lemoyne. Lemoyne, in my obviously after tonight's game, sits uh on top, but those other four or five, I think it's gonna be a crapsheet in some ways. Depending on who plays whom and who comes out better. I agree with you. A Delphi, my bet is it's a Delphi against Lemoyne in the final. But it would not surprise me if Bentley Pace or St. A's does something and gets there.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, no, they're they're they're all quality lacrosse teams, Kev. I don't have my belt with me. I don't have my belt with me tonight. You're tired, you're tired. Yeah, they're all quality lacrosse teams, and they're all capable of beating each other on it on any given day. I mean, pace is a scary team, yeah, and St. Ace is a scary team, you know, like they can do things. You know, the Larson brothers are good. Caputo and those boys and Danny Xabia at pace are good, they can put up points. And but you know what? I'm gonna be I'm gonna say something tonight that I probably haven't said all year. It's just something I've been thinking about. I've been watching a lot of lacrosse this year, and I know Lemoyne has been number one, and rightly so. In my eyes, I felt before tonight that Adelphi was the best team in the country. Because when I see them play and how they play with Dylan Renner and they have Hoarder at the at the face off, yeah, and they're deep at the midfield, and their attack unit is so lethal. I felt the only thing that was keeping them back from being number one was their strength of schedule because Le Moyne will play anybody. You want to play LeMine, they're like, Yep, come on, bring it on. And I felt that Lemoyne's strength of schedule was much harder than a Delphi's throughout the year. And I think in my eyes, before tonight, that a Delphi was in my eyes, they've I felt like they were the better, better team. But man, Lemoyne and Coach Sheehan and that defense have proved me wrong once again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is gonna be a great conference tournament to watch, another great one in the end. Let's move on to number three, playing number four over the weekend, Wingate UIndy at Wingate. Wingate pulls it off 14-9. And this is what I wrote as one of my first notes. This was a dog fight, Danny, to begin with. This was a tight, tight game and very evenly matched until Wingate went on that 7-1 run. And this is the other thing I went back to. They went on a 7-1 run in the third to pull ahead. And guess what? Wingate has done that against the top teams this year. They went on an 8-0 run against Lenore Ryan and a 6-0 run against Limestone. And each time they did that, that's how they separated them from really good teams. I mean, what the games that I thought would be all like one goal games, they just separated at that point. But that was a good game. Yeah, you know what?

SPEAKER_02

I was at that game too, Kev. That's the game I went down to see this weekend. And you know what? Um, UND is a fast, really well-coached team. They can score in bunches, they have defenders that can defend, and Kyle Bosch at the short stick D-mitty. He had himself a game. Kev, I think he had three cause turnovers in the first three possessions. He knocked the ball out of Danny Riley's hand in the first possession. He knocked the ball out of uh uh one of the midfielders' stick, the second possession. He was just an animal, and they jumped out to a quick little jump lead.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, they it was it was 3-2 uh Undy after one. And Undy goes up by two uh uh 6-4, and then it was it actually was 6-5 at half. But here's what I saw. Here was the difference. When it when it was 6-4, I agree with you. It seemed like Undy had the upper hand, and it seemed to me that Wingate's offense were just not crisp. And then all of a sudden, at the very end of the first half in that second quarter, Wingate spread out the offense. I mean, they were wide out, they were wide out across the whole half of the field. And I don't I almost feel like if I saw that and they did the same thing beginning of the second half, Gretko started up at top, and everyone's really spread out. Now they didn't stay like that for the whole second half, but it almost was like, guys, let's take a breath and let's run our offense. And spreading that out almost got them to, in my mind, more psychologically than anything, that they then were starting to be play their their offensive schemes.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you know what? The Bulldogs have started slow every game this year. They start out kind of slow, except for that limestone game and the Ryan game. They started out quick in those two games, but they seem to how do I what's the right word? Uh they seem to kind of just trudge and trudge until they figure it out. They're like, okay, we got it, and then it's bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. They'll score five, six goals. Danny Riley had himself a game. The All-Americans.

SPEAKER_01

And then and Greco had four goals and two assists, and almost seemed silent, you know, and and they also spurred on. They had a lot of guys that had two or one goals. And the thing that I would say though, Danny, here's the here's what I really think. Once again, the two spots that I think made the difference were in special teams. Johnny Capone in goal had another great game. And Dylan Ruprecht at face-off because they had uh Kot Camp in there, and he went like one for five and was not having a good game. They brought Dylan in, and I don't know what it's I don't have written down what his final stats were, but he started winning a lot of face-offs and he won enough. I mean, that that's how they have they kept on getting possessions because of him. And be able to go on that 7-1 run.

SPEAKER_02

He was 13 for 22 for almost 60 percent. Yeah, yeah, he was good, man. He's a freshman, he came in.

SPEAKER_01

You know, and I think James Cot camp, James Cotcamp has done a great job this year for them. Yeah, but when you have that option to go to Dylan, and he can do what he did against against you, Wendy, that's just awesome.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and you know what? I gotta, I'm gonna say hats off to the wingate defense. I mean, these these young guys are getting good. They they slide, they move, they double, they get checks on, they get they knock the ball out. They're good, man. They're wingate's a tough team, man. I just who do you guard? Who do you guard? That's like if you're if I'm a defensive coach and I'm Looking at Wingate, I got to say, all right, I'm gonna put my best man on Willie Greco. I'm gonna put my second best guy on Danny Riley. Now you're going down the depth chart a little bit, right? So now you got your third best guy, pickham, Joe Moran, Jackson, Aiden McMahon. The line just keep coming. Mark Cottage, Damon Langossin. There's five or six kids that can score on this team at the midfield. They're just who do you guard? Who do you guard? You got to pick your poison against Wingate. And like you said, Capone's in goal. He's been standing on his head for five weeks in a row now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And that defense is just getting better. And like again, they're young. And but they don't play young anymore. They're starting to they're starting to figure it out.

SPEAKER_01

I was just thinking about that seeing how because you said it, uh Delphi's got the same kind of setup. Lemoyne's defense against Wingate's offense. Now that's only going to happen in the NCAA championship. If it does, we'll see. There's a chance for that, I think. But it you know, it was it was a great game. You you and you like you said it, UND they're great. They're great. Watch out for them in the not only in the GLVC tournament, but they're gonna be in the NCAA tournament. And it's what you said, it's I think it's gonna be a crapshoot. Who comes out of the South?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's interesting. And you know what? In those two games, kind of made statements the Adelphi game, the Lemoyne, the Bentley game against the Delphi, and the Wingate uh of the U Indy, you know, that shot Wingate to the number two in the polls. So I think that's the highest Wingate's ever been in program history.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, now just now, just before we go on to another game, I have to mention this because I know you're at the game, and I know the wingate players and the coaches can't hear the commentators, but this is like the second game in a row that the commentators mentioned Danny Moran's podcast. Now, now I will tell you right now, I'm I don't have an ego. If if they call it Danny Moran's podcast and we get more listeners, I think that's great. But what they said in the first game I listened to, they're like, I can you believe they never had us on? So here's what I want to say I actually know the commentators' names, but they will remain nameless because we're nameless to them. They don't even know the name of our podcast and they've never listened to it. And if they did, they would know that we haven't had any commentators on our podcast yet. That could be coming maybe in the summer, but I don't know. I don't know. The first thing they have to do is listen. So if you're a Wingate player or a coach and you listen to this podcast, get to those commentators and say, the podcast is called In the Crease. Listen to an episode, it's all about D2 lacrosse. If you don't like it, then you can give us grief all you want. If you do like it, then maybe we can talk about coming on the show at a later time.

SPEAKER_02

I actually I actually met the uh color guys, and uh what's his name, Greg? Oh, sorry, I was not supposed to mention I'm not saying so. Anyway, I I was talking to him, and you know what? He never asked what what what it was. He never asked, but you know what? He was around a bunch of alumni were there, like guys that I don't yeah, I've never met before, and they they all listened to the podcast. They were like, Man, really good stuff. They like the 15 for life one, and guys are talking to me.

SPEAKER_01

And I will tell you, I think those commentators do a great job. Yeah, they're very objective. They talk about when Wingate's doing well and when they're doing poorly, and same with the other team. They're very objective and they're funny.

SPEAKER_02

I think they're great, but and and they pronounce the other teams' names correctly. That's I'll give them that too. Not like Lenore Ryan.

SPEAKER_01

All right, we're going down a rabbit hole now. So let's try to pull it back. Let's pull it back. Let's talk Seton Hill, Tampa. Oh boy, did you get to see that? You were probably in the middle of watching. So I got to, I was it was the same time as the Wingate game. So I had Command Central going. I I could watch it. It was 6'5 at half Tampa, so it was really close. But you know, Tampa, they methodically opened up the scoring in the third, and they went up 9-5. And then it was 9-6 after three. Uh, and to be honest, I I think that's all she wrote because it was it was 10. I want to say it was 10-6, Danny, when I I had to go do something. Uh, and then I looked back, it was 10-8. And so Seton Hill scored two goals at the end of the fourth, but they couldn't come back. And I think the difference was ground balls. I think ground balls, Tampa had uh like 30 some to 23 for for uh Seton Hill. Man up, Tampa had went one for three, but Seton Hill went 0 for 4. And then there's the clears. Tampa was 24 for 25, and Seton Hill was 18 for 23. So good Tampa.

SPEAKER_02

Is it because of rioting or just bad, poor decision making?

SPEAKER_01

Because I didn't see the game. I think and I'm looking, I'm looking out of my side. I think it was more the defense than it was really just poor poor clears, good riding and good defense. I think you know, basically with the clears and the ground balls, Tampa just had more possessions and were able to win it.

SPEAKER_02

You know, how about Vinny Cogli Cogliandro for uh he had himself a game?

SPEAKER_01

Five goals, one assist. Yeah, he had a great game. And then Gunnar Gebeline uh for Tampa D, six ground balls and two cost turnovers.

SPEAKER_02

Wow. You know what? Tampa's another team that scares the hell out of me. I wouldn't want to play that team either.

SPEAKER_01

No, or Rollins. I'm telling you, those the two top ones in the in Sunshine State.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're tough, man. And you know what? Seton Hill's a good team. You know, they just beat Mercy Hearst a couple of weeks ago. And and you know, Tampa's a good team. So to just you know lose by two, that must have been a great game to watch.

SPEAKER_01

I might want to throw that on. Here's a game, here's another game that I think you have to watch if uh oh, I gotta bring it up. I don't even have the final score up. You have to watch this game, Danny, if if you haven't seen it yet. And that was UH Flagler. My Flagler team. Love that those those guys. Alabama Huntsville Flagler. This was a game that you could tell these two teams wanted it. They wanted it for that, I think that second seed. It went to overtime, and Flagler wins 13 to 12. This was another fast-paced physical game, and Danny, it was a total game of runs. Alabama Huntsville scores two quick ones. Flagler answers with five of their own and they go up 5'2 after one. Then Alabama Huntsville, they they score the first three in the second, and it's tied five-five. And it goes back and forth like that throughout the game. You get to the half, it's six-six. Flaggler starts off the third with two goals in the first minute, and they're they're up eight, six, and then Alabama Huntsville, they score three, they go up by one, then it's nine, eight, nine, nine, ten, nine, ten, ten, eleven, ten. Alabama Huntsville scores to make it 12-10 at the end of three. And you're like, oh my God. I'm like, take a deep breath. Just take a deep breath and relax here. Yeah, it was great ball movement from both teams, great physical D on both sides. And like I said, they were both going all out. It's funny, it wasn't like always transition goals and fast pace. A clearing, they try to fast pace, and they try to sometimes get on the six six on six offense and defense if they didn't see a transition goal, right? But those guys are moving, even guys coming out of the box and in the box, off the field and in the box. These guys, both teams are sprinting, and they're sprinting for the end lines for the to get the ball back on their side. I mean, it just it just never stopped. So it's it's 12-10. Flagler scores first in the fourth, and then another at 651. So there's very little goals. 12-12. There's almost seven minutes left, no more goals for the rest of the game.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

Alabama Huntsville wins the faceoff, they call timeout. They turn it over on a bad pass that was low. So now Flagler gets their chance. They go in, they shoot, don't get it, but they back up the ball. And there were a couple wraparound goals by each team. And this time Flagler scores on their own wrap around from X Dodge to win it. Yeah. In overtime. I mean, it was just an exciting game to watch. Exciting game.

SPEAKER_02

You know what? Kevin, just because you know these they're not top 20 teams, you know, that we're talking about. This is what's so great about Division II lacrosse, that even though these two teams might not be in the top 20, they're playing for their conference lives. There's a conference championship on the online here, and it means a lot. And you know what? And that's when these teams start to play really, really well. And I love the fact that these guys go out at it like that. It's it's great. It's great for the conference.

SPEAKER_01

Go to Alabama Huntsville Chargers YouTube channel. It's there. I watched it, it was just a total fun game to watch. Logan Tobias of Flagler, four goals, one assist. Brody Phillips of Alabama Huntsville with four goals.

SPEAKER_02

Both of those guys will be first team all conference guys. I guarantee it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. All right. Saint Leo Lynn. This was the game that St. Leo had to win to get into the tournament. They pull it off 20 to 10. They were up 10-3 at half. Now Lynn fights back in the third and they get it within 13-9. I'm thinking, okay, here they come. It was like Lynn Florida Tech game when Lynn was way far behind and they they caught up and brought it to overtime. But St. Leo then they score, they get it to 14-9 and a quarter, and then they just come out firing in the fourth, and they built an eight-goal lead to make it 17-9, and that's all she wrote.

SPEAKER_02

They got some talent there, you know, at at Saint Leo. I don't think anybody expected them to be where they are. And, you know, at what are they 10 and 6 now?

SPEAKER_01

I think they're close to that, but they're and they're three and two. I'd have to look back, and uh, I I don't write them down for this, but they they're a tough team, and and they certainly want to go into Rollins in the tournament and turn around what they couldn't do that first time. Look at and you talk about talent. Adam Techman, four goals, one assist. Guy Bistro, three goals, two assists. And Thomas Nealan, the freshman, three goals, one assist in this game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, them boys, them boys balled out, man. They're good, they're good. And they're just, you know, good. They're just I I just had fun watching the St. Leo team this year. There's just saw them improve. He's you know, like had a couple losses in the beginning of the year, you know, but played like some good squads, you know, and and then they're young, very young, and they're just I'm I'm glad to see that they're in the Sunshine Day conference, but they better put their belts on because they're in fro, oh boy, with Rollins. It'll be yeah, I don't know. You know, the ducks at the shooting gallery, you know. I might think it might be kind of like that, but you know what? Lynn's gonna learn from that, and they're gonna come back. I mean, not Lynn, but St. Leo's gonna learn from that. Yeah, they're not, they're not gonna, I don't see them advancing in the tournament. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_01

I don't either, but like you said, they're a young team. Let's see what they can do. Let's see what they can do, make if they can make a make this close.

SPEAKER_02

And then yeah, giving them give them a competitive game. But you know what? You take away the fact that the the team improved, chemistry got better, the freshmen are are making noise and and and contributing at St. Leo. And looks like the future's bright next year for Coach Jorgensen.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Now, here's another game. You talk about conference implications. Westminster against Colorado Mesa. Now, this was at Westminster's field, which I just love watching every game I can feel with the mountains in the back.

SPEAKER_02

Another dog fight. All these all these games are dog fights, Kev.

SPEAKER_01

14-13, Colorado Mesa pulls it off. But think about this, Danny. Last time they played, Westminster lost 23-8. Now they just come back off the road. Now both teams have been home a little bit, but Westminster would not go away. Colorado Mesa was up 9-5 at half, and it was 12-8 after three, and you're thinking, okay, it's just not going to go that way. Didn't seem like didn't seem like the Griffins could really get it within three. Right. Then all of a sudden, you know, near the end of the fourth quarter, they're they are not giving up. And Salentano scores for Westminster to get it within one, 13-12 with three minutes left. But then AJ Sweitzer scores on a face-off transition to make it 14-12. And you're like, okay, that's probably about it now. Westminster then scores in transition 14-13, 205 left in the game. Colorado Mesa, though, gets the ball and they're able to escape with this win. And that's, I mean, it was great because I really thought for most of the game that Colorado Mesa kind of had everything under control until that fourth quarter, until that last six, seven minutes. And Westminster's always there. This is a good squad, too, man.

SPEAKER_02

I look at that squad and I'm like, man, are they good? Are they not good? Are they, you know, as a couple of things? Westminster is another young team. You know, because you know, because they're out west, and they, you know, but they come out east and they play tough teams. Yeah, you know, Mesa always seems to be ranked at the end of the every year, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'll tell you what, Colorado Mesa needed to win that game, and they need to I think they need to win out to have a chance to get into the tournament, NCA tournament. And so they did that, and they keep moving forward. Now, two other games, Danny, I just want to mention. First of all, Maryville-Lewis, because this had their seating implications for them. This ended up like a baseball score, Danny. Did you see the final score of this game? No. Six to two. Maryville wins six to two, was four-one at half. So I think Lewis was shut out in two of the four quarters because it was five-one after three. And then Lewis is able to get finally score one in the fourth to make it six-two. This was the lowest scoring win ever by Meryville, the commentator said. Really? Lowest scoring win, six to two. A win's a win. Yeah. And the way I see it, that puts Maryville in the in uh the third seed and Lewis in the fourth seed, depending on how they play out the last few games, which I think if I look at it right, Lewis, although right now, is you know, kind of tied with a few of the others. I think they've got some games where they can get back. They just beat Davenport tonight. Uh, so I think they're gonna be the fourth seed for uh their tournament. The last game is Chestnut Hill against Post. Post wins 11-9. Let's talk about what Coach John Jez is doing there. I was shocked at that score when I saw it. I was too post now has a chance for the number two seed if they can beat Wilmington tomorrow on Wednesday. And you know what? They have a chance. Yes, they do. Yes, they do.

Coach's Spotlight

SPEAKER_01

Okay, Danny, let's move on to our coach's spotlight. We talked with this coach early on in our podcasting days, as you remember. But since then, we've been able to talk to many of his current and former players, and to a man, they have said how they would run through brick walls for him. Yeah, he is the true players coach, in my opinion. He and he has brought back his team to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament for the first time since 2019. So let's welcome in, Coach Brad Jorgensen, head coach of the St. Leo Lions. Hey coach.

SPEAKER_02

Hey guys, how you doing? Hey, Coach Jorgensen, good to see you back again. How's everything going?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, it's going well, going well. We're in the we're in the the heat of the postseason and uh getting ourselves ready uh for a for a big game Thursday night. So anytime you get to play meaningful across at this time of year, it's always a good thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, sir.

SPEAKER_01

Let's get into that. You had to beat Lynn on your senior day this past Saturday to get into your tournament, and you guys came away with a decisive win 20 to 10. Tell us what that was like for you and and for the locker room.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I think it's a huge thing for the locker room. You know, it's uh a young group that needs to learn how to win. Uh, it's always nice when you have such a young group and the expectations are being set right out of the gate. Uh that the postseason is sort of the standard. Uh it was great for our senior class. They've they've had uh probably one of the tougher uh experiences of any senior class I've ever coached. They had a teammate pass away, they had to deal with two years of COVID. So to have those guys have their senior day be a positive is great. Um and honestly, we're excited because we felt like the the last time that we played Rollins, we didn't put our best foot forward. Uh, and any chance you get to sort of redo uh and hopefully do better uh is always exciting in the in the locker room.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so let's go. I have I have a couple questions based on what you just said, Coach, but let's go with Rollins first. Obviously, a tough loss the first time. Is there something you learned without giving away any trade secrets that you're gonna pull out on Thursday that you learned from that regular season game that you're trying to uh incorporate this time around?

SPEAKER_00

Um, not really. I think uh, you know, we felt like uh a lot of our troubles uh against Rollins the first time around uh were execution problems. Um you know, we played them in fallball uh and played pretty well against them. We played in stretches uh the last time we played pretty well and had it down to a two-goal game halfway through the third and kind of kind of got away from us down the stretch. Um, but it but really it's it's one they're they're they're really good, they're really confident. Um, they've got a bunch of guys who can who can execute. Uh they they present a lot of different problems, so it's hard to plan for them. But you know, we the more we watch the film of that game, uh, the more the focus became inward. Uh and and yeah, what do we have to do better?

SPEAKER_01

Sounds like taking care of the little things on the in execution to to just put it all together for four quarters.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I I think uh, you know, defensively we just got away from some of our fundamentals, had short sticks, trying to throw takeaway checks. We had you know, guys throwing over the head checks at the top of the box. Um you know, offensively, we we were gripping our sticks a little tight early and had some turnovers that uh really kind of got in the way and and piled up possession time for them, yeah. Um, which is not a not not a place you want to be against uh on the wrong side of the possession clock. You know, I I I think uh some momentum could could have been gained if we had executed some things a little bit differently. Uh and we think that's sort of the key to what we need to do is we just need to play better. Uh we can't control how they play. We we really need to just do some things that we've been doing since September uh that we didn't do uh what the last time we got to play them.

SPEAKER_02

I I've just watched your team just improve each week, coach. Um I just, you know, I know you lost your first three, but you rattled off, what, like seven in a row after that? I mean, I just saw the confidence gain gaining. I saw them moving the ball better, playing better defense. What do you attribute that to? You that first part of that season maybe getting a little rough, maybe, or maybe the kids just kind of getting the NCAA game. Because you did say they were kind of young.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. We're we're super young. And I think you can really attribute uh the the arc of our season uh to the fact that winning and losing are learned behaviors. Uh yeah, you have to learn how to do both. Uh And hopefully you learn how to win more than you learn how to lose. Um you know, I think early on we go out, we play limestone. We're young and we're dumb. We don't care who we're playing, uh, and we play a pretty good game.

SPEAKER_02

You lost by two. You lost by two.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. And then we go up uh to Huntsville. It's a grass field that's seeing about 20 inches of rain. Uh it's 22 degrees outside. The shot clocks aren't working, so it's getting counted down uh out of the box. And and look again, I don't want to take anything away from the Huntsville guys. They played a really good lacrosse game. They've got the a little bit more of an experienced team. Um they're they're not a uh a bad lacrosse program by any stretch of the imagination.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but we didn't we didn't handle the uncontrollables very well, and it kind of nuked our brains a little bit, lost our confidence, and we went to Montevallo and the guys weren't really believing. Uh and again, Montevallo's got an excellent goaltender. Uh, they got some guys who can put the ball away. It's not that uh I feel like uh losing to them is some sort of gigantic fall from grace, but it it was a tough setup. Um and then we we we finally started tasting some wins and we started figuring it out. And uh, you know, we had some some big wins, we had some tight wins, uh and our guys started to learn how to win lacrosse games, yeah. You know, and that's that's critical with a younger group um that's gonna be here for a while, is at some point you got to learn how to win the ones. And really the turning point for us was was um you know, beating Florida Tech in our conference opener. You know, that's one on on paper that probably not a lot of folks had us winning.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

And the that first time you get a group to win a game that you know no one thinks they're gonna win, uh, that's where the magic starts to happen. Uh yeah, uh you know, every team that goes on a run needs one of those.

SPEAKER_02

I watched that game. That was a really that was a great game you guys played that night. You really put all the pieces together in one game, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, at the right time. Um, you know, and I if if we coaches could dial that up every year, uh we'd all have a lot less gray hair.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I don't even have I don't even coach, coach, and I've got a lot of gray hair, so there you go. Um, but uh I I want to go back to something you said, and you said learning how to lose. And I think with a young team, you talked about Alabama, Huntsville to Montevallo. I mean, part of that is not getting down after a loss, I would assume, you know. And what do you do to kind of teach them how it's it's more like pull the lessons learned and let's uh pull our bootstraps back up? And that's probably not the right phrase, but to get ready for the next game and it's a new new day.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I I think and I think we talked about this the last time uh we got together. Um, but this is why coaching this generation isn't the burden, maybe some people will say sometimes, right? This generation is about uh the why. Uh and it becomes a lot easier to rebound from a tough weekend in Alabama when we can sit down, we can clip out the film, and we can say, guys, this is the why. It's not we're not good. These are the things that happened. Um, these are the things we can correct, but this is why that weekend didn't go our way. And they thirst for the why, but they also can wrap their mind around the why, probably better than than than maybe my generation. I I think you know, we it would have been harder to pull somebody from my generation out of that tailspin weekend because we weren't the why, we were the chess piece that was getting moved around the board by the coaching staff. And you know, I I I think it we're the guys now are a little bit more pliable. They can they can rinse it a little bit more and and and figure out, okay, we did this wrong, let's let's fix that. Uh and that part's good. And again, uh young guys have short memories. Um two weeks for them is two years for for us. So uh you know, they their memories get shorter and shorter as mine gets longer and longer.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, let's let's talk about some of your players, guys like Guy Bistro and Justin Williams, those two guys have really been phenomenal for you for this this year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, it's uh we we've talked about our youth, but really the foundation is our veterans, uh, no doubt. I mean, Guy Bistro, uh if a coach got to go into a lab and genetically engineer somebody they want to coach, uh it's Guy. Wow, wow, you know, great student, uh R O T C kid. He's a captain for us as a junior, um, yeah, tough as nails. He'll come uh to practice after having a six-mile ruck march at 4 a.m. Uh diving for ground balls and practice. Um Justin, he's a coach's son, a referee's son. Um he's grown up around the game. He's uh super crafty, super smart. You know, I think he's he's kind of got a uh an odd way about his game that like might not catch somebody's eye. Um but he's he's slippery, he shoots the heck out of the ball. You know, two guys uh uh among others. I mean, uh uh you know, a guy like Adam Techman.

SPEAKER_02

I was just gonna say Tacman's been contributing real good. And how about some of the freshmen like Thomas Nealan?

SPEAKER_00

Yep. No, I I would say if there is uh one giant pleasant surprise, I always say recruiting, there's there's pleasant surprises and bitter disappointments. If there's a pleasant surprise, it's Tommy Nealan. You know, not the biggest kid, um, didn't get a boatload of burn uh at the high school level and just came and earned it. Just came and uh every day after practice, we're looking at each other going, yeah, we gotta find a way to get that kid in. We got to find a way to get this kid on the field. And we we started initially uh trying to run him through the box as a midfielder. Um and as time went on, we trusted him more and more to be part of every offensive possession um and and handle college level and college-sized polls uh and and he he's been an extremely pleasant surprise out of a lot of younger guys that are really helping a lot, but he he's been a very pleasant surprise.

SPEAKER_02

It's good to hear. And what about Greg Palmer?

SPEAKER_00

I I mean Greg's it's tough to miss him. Um is he a freshman?

SPEAKER_02

He's a freshman, Greg. He is a freshman. Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Um, he uh I think he's second in the conference, regardless of age in points.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's gonna be all all Sunshine State Conference, at least first team. He's gotta be.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we had our we had our conference call today. I I I I made my bid.

SPEAKER_02

Um he's gotta be.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, no, he's he's a problem. Um and the thing about Greg is he's a problem in all phases of the game. Uh one of the things I tried to reiterate to my colleagues today on the all the all conference call was uh yeah, it's great. He scored a bunch of goals, yeah, it's great, he's got a bunch of assists. Um, but I I think he had gosh, I can't remember off the top of my head because I'm not looking at the sheet. Uh but it's 61 points. Well, the to me, the one that jumps out is cause turnovers.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He's he's double-digit cause turnovers as an attackman.

SPEAKER_02

That's amazing, man.

SPEAKER_00

You know, so he's always riding hard. Yeah, he's he's sort of that Kavanaugh family level of hunting the ball, no matter where it is on his half of the field as an attackman.

SPEAKER_02

Right, right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, you know, he's he's he's a menace dodging, he's a menace shooting, he's a menace without the ball and his stick, getting open off the ball. Uh he's a heck of a player.

SPEAKER_02

Well, coach, you're in that Sunshine State Conference. It's not an easy conference. We spoke about that last time because the year before, Kevin and I had kind of not maybe jokingly, but we were wondering why the Sunshine State Conference was getting so much recognition in Tampa and some of the other teams. And now it's it's so apparent to us right now what the Sunshine State Conference is. I mean, look at what Emory Riddle did this year. Who expected that? You know, and Lynn has always been a solid team, and you got Florida Southern, Florida Tech, and Tampa. And here comes St. Leo with this young squad and coach. I just watched you guys improve, improve. And I would take Kevin. Did you see St. Leo? You gotta watch them. I was watching the Florida Tech game, texting Kevin saying, You've got to put this game on. They're just playing great. So it's been great to watch the team come so far so quick.

SPEAKER_00

And uh, I and I and I will quibble a little bit with the uh the uh we haven't been in the conference tournament since 19, which is true. However, two of those years there was no conference tournament, so it's only been one year, it's only been a one-year vacation.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. Now this won't count it anyway. What the hell?

SPEAKER_01

Coach, you're you're ruining my my whole intro. It was so good before that. Now I'm just gonna cut you out right there, coach. I'm not gonna put that on the podcast. No, just kidding. We've learned Danny and I have learned the error of our ways when we talk about the Sunshine State Conference from from last year, because your COVID was uh a mess up for everyone, but I think that just put uh I think it put Sunshine State Conference a little bit in the back burner in everyone's mind, just because you guys had it so rough down in Florida, to be honest. Even the second season when you guys were coming back, it was totally different. A lot of canceled games, right? A lot of canceled games. We talked about that with you. And so when you guys could able come back, and and we're we've seen it with with your team this year, and I think one of the keys is the veterans with the young guys and the chemistry they've been able to probably put together. I wasn't there, but that's what I would assume is what has really helped out this team in these past games. Would you agree with that?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, I I can't give enough accolades to our older guys uh who have had such a uh a rough road, and it would have been really easy for them to continue the direction we were headed. We didn't have a great year last year. Uh we we we lost a lot of games, and I didn't really like the way the way that we lost them. Um that's why we're so young right now. Um and it would have been really easy for the guys who have been here to sort of keep in that direction. You know, momentum's a real thing. Yeah, it's it's a it's a tough thing to break, whether it's positive or negative. Um, and we were kind of uh at the end of last year spiraled in a in a negative direction. And for our returners, our upperclassmen, our older guys, to be able to welcome in 22 freshmen and really help them change the direction of the program. I I can't speak highly enough to our veterans for for what they've been able to do uh to change the trajectory of where where we're going.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that that's awesome, coach. I'll tell you what, I'm really I'm sure Danny is too because he he's he does text me and I always listen to him, so I have to turn the game on. But uh I've watched plenty of St. Leo games this year, and we are excited to watch on Thursday night. Um, or is it Thursday at night or is it in the afternoon? What do you think?

SPEAKER_00

No, it's Thursday night at 8 p.m. Uh the weather this week is uh looking a little dodgy, so there might be uh a couple of delays. I know we only got about an hour of our practice in tonight uh due to Mother Nature. Um Thursday's Thursday's looking a little gnarly uh around Winter Park. So uh hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully the weatherman's wrong. Uh uh, or hopefully it's already burned itself off by the time uh we we walk out on the field to warm up. Um, but yeah, it's an 8 p.m. start at Rowland's on Thursday.

SPEAKER_02

Well, coach, I wish you the best of luck. I mean, I I've been watching the you know the Lions for a bunch of years now, you know that. So I do. I I wish you the best of luck. And uh thanks so much for coming on the show tonight. We really appreciate it.

SPEAKER_00

No, I appreciate what you guys do for Division II uh and and making sure that uh that the folks are paying attention because there's a lot of really good lacrosse being played across the division.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, a hundred percent. Absolutely. Couldn't agree with you more.

Games to Watch

SPEAKER_01

Well, that was a lot of fun catching up with Coach Jorgensen. He's always fun to talk to, great perspective. Yeah, he's a good guy.

SPEAKER_02

I always like coach and know him a long time. My oldest played for him many, many years ago. Always liked him, and and you know what? He does good things at at St. Leo. He's been there a long time, started the program there, and just wish him the best of luck. I just really like, I just think he's a genuinely really super nice guy.

SPEAKER_01

He is, and it it is true that when we've talked to a lot of his players, as you know, they all love him. Yeah. How how he coaches them, how he treats them, and how he mentors them, which I think is great. So why don't we talk about that? We have games to watch this week. The one game, as we go into this, Danny, the one game that isn't a conference tournament is the one I've got listed is Saturday, April 29th. It's Frostburg against Roberts Wesleyan. That should be a good one. Should be a very good one. Roberts Wesleyan sits at four and one in the conference. Frostburg is at three and two. So Frostburg needs this win to be in the mix for the two seed. They have to beat Roberts Wesleyan. Roberts Wesleyan, obviously, they control their destiny. They're a tough squad. If they win, they're the two seed. And they're it's going to be, we just talked about it. You talked about it in the top 10 roundup. Frostburg lost to Mercyhurst by a good amount, more than I may thought I would. So who's gonna show up? It's gonna be, I think this is gonna be a very evenly matched game.

SPEAKER_02

I do too. And you know, like you said, for you know, Robert Sweslean looking to get that two seed, man. I think it's gonna be a a dog fight as it is normally at this time of year when these teams are fighting for position. Yeah, yeah, and that should be a good game. They're both very good teams and and and pretty evenly matched as well, Kev, like you said. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so now the conference tournaments start this next week, really in the south. And let's turn first to the one we just talked about with Coach Jorgensen, and that is Sunshine.

SPEAKER_02

Sunshine, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So this first set of games for the semifinals happens on Thursday, April 27th. Rollins against St. Leo and Tampa against Florida Southern.

SPEAKER_02

Rollins against St. Leo and Tampa versus Florida Southern. All right, St. Leo. It's been a good year. Get them beach blankets out because you're gonna be going, they're gonna have some extra time and sit on the beach after next Thursday. Rollins a good team, Kev. Yeah, you know, they've been playing well, great defense, catch a Dorian and goal. Um uh Syracuse transfers and on the offensive side of the field. They're just they're a good squad. And Tampa playing Florida Southern, I think Tampa's gonna win that game rather handily. And I'm going to predict right now that Tampa upsets Rollins for the Sunshine State Conference title.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so the the final is on the on the 30th, which is Sunday. And we talked about this last week. I've got to stick with my guns on this. What um I'm sticking with my what I said before that Rollins will beat Tampa, but beating Tampa twice in the same season, it's tough. Tough task. It's gonna be a great, great championship game. I think the other games, I'd love to see both teams. I love to see the games play close. St. Leo and Florida Southern give these guys a run. All right. I think Florida Southern may have a little bit of a better chance than St. Leo, but we'll see.

SPEAKER_02

I don't want to see Tampa. I don't want to see that team. That team is scary good, man. They got guys that can score, they got four or five guys that can score. I mean, and they have defensive players and they have Blake Homer in goal. And I'm sorry, they've just as they're a squad. Yeah, you know what? They've maybe not played like blowing out teams like they were last year, 22 to 3 and stuff like that. I mean, last year they were just a diesel train. This year, they're a diesel train that's on like in third gear instead of all the way down. Well, we talked about this, Danny.

SPEAKER_01

It is tough to keep it's not their talent, it's just mentally that is tough to do two years in a row like that. And plus, that doesn't mean they can't get there and win the whole thing again. That would not surprise me.

SPEAKER_02

No, they have they have all the capabilities to do with that. That's why Tampa is scary good to me. And I think Rollins better watch out, man. Rollins is gonna have to play. That's gonna be the hardest game of their season in that championship game. And that's gonna be one hell of a game to watch.

SPEAKER_01

I guarantee that. It sure is. Okay, let's move on. So now then the next two we're gonna talk about have already played games. Let's start with Conference Carolinas. They played their first, the quarterfinals happened on April 24th. That was Mount Olive against Emmanuel. Mount Olive won 22-4, and then Barton beat Chowan 19-10 on that same night. So they go to the semifinals. Mount Olive plays North Greenville on the 27th, and Barton goes against Belmont Abbey. And then the championship is on the 29th. So, what do you think about those semifinal matchups?

SPEAKER_02

So you got Belmont Abbey and Barton, and and you said Choan? North Greenville against Mount Olive. North Greenville and Mount Olive. Oof, that's a good game. Yeah. You know what? Mount Olive has been a little inconsistent this year, Kev. Yeah. You know, a little on the inconsistent side. I think Belmont Abbey takes out Barton. And um, I'm gonna say North Greenville pulls out a close game against Mount Olive.

SPEAKER_01

I think that should be a decent game. I agree. I agree, and I agree with your picks. So who do you see winning the championship?

SPEAKER_02

I tell you the way Belmont Abbey's been playing the last couple of weeks, they seem to be peaking at the right time. But North Greenville is a good squad. Gonna give the edge to Belmont Abbey and the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_01

I've got to do the same thing. I thought North Greenville would give them a better matchup than they did in the in the regular season, and Belmont Abbey handled them better than you know, easier than I thought. So I'm gonna give the edge to Belmont Abbey as well in the championship. Okay, next one is the sack. The quarterfinals just happened today. That was Newberry against Lincoln Memorial. Newberry won 20 to 9. And then Anderson and Limestone played each other, and that was 20 to 10. Limestone won that game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, I expected Limestone to beat Anderson. Limestone's playing very well lately. Almost took Lenore Ryan to the brink, and they took him to overtime last week. Um, Newberry's been a great squad. We've been talking about Newberry all year. Um it doesn't surprise me to see them take care of business rather handily. And now the Wingate Bulldogs are facing a good limestone team, and Lenora Ryan is facing it kind of and Newberry team.

SPEAKER_01

They're facing a good team, but they're not at Lenore Ryan's level. They're not at limestone's level.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, do you think Newberry's as good as limestone? I know that Newberry got the three.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, I don't. But yeah, the seeds, and this is interesting. After our last podcast, someone DM'd us more about the Lincoln Memorial one, uh, and Kataaba and Coker. That came down to uh Lincoln Memorial. If they won their game, which they lost, and if Coker uh, or if Coker won, either one of those won those games, they were definitely gonna be the sixth seed. Neither one did, so it came down to goal differential between the three teams Lincoln Memorial, Coker, and Kataba. And Lincoln Memorial had won out of that gold differential when they played each other. So Lincoln Memorial had the sixth. I think that's the way it kind of worked out for Limestone, Anderson, and Newberry, because they each played each other and they each won one game. So Newberry got the higher seed, even though I agree with you because they beat Anderson, they beat Anderson, limestone beat Newberry, and Anderson beat Limestone. Yeah. And so, but I would agree with you that I think limestone. Is the better team of the three. Even though ain't now at this time of the season, when Anderson beat Limestone in the regular season, Anderson was doing really well. They they weren't didn't have a lot of injuries. They had Cam Weeks. That's right. They were in charge. But Limestone just got it's getting better and better, as they usually do at the end of the year. And they are the best team of those three. I agree with you. But now that's not how it worked out in the in the seeds.

SPEAKER_02

In the seeds, yeah. So when you think about it, the one being the Wingate Bulldogs should have the lower seed or the easier road to the championship. And the two should have the harder road. And I think I like you think that Limestone's a better team than Newberry.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So Wingates has a tougher team in the semifinals on Friday the 28th than Lenore Ryan.

SPEAKER_02

I think that Lenore Ryan is going to take care of business. I agree. Uh uh against Newberry. But I think Newberry can give them a game, but they got to come and play. They got to come and play. Um, I know that limestone, uh, Lenore Ryan has an injury on the defensive side. I don't think Donnie Powell has played in the last couple of games. I think he's injured. You mean Victor Powell? I mean Victor Powell, sorry, not Donnie, Victor. And uh so he hasn't played in the last couple of games, as far as I know. So I think you have an all-American injured on Lenore Ryan's side. So that could be an opening for Newberry. Let's see how they play. Now you got Wingate and Limestone on the other side. Um again, I I think Wingate's a really, really good team, Kev. They're they're tough, man. And they score in bunches, and I just think I just think they're gonna beat limestone in a good game. It's gonna be a tough, it's gonna be a knockdown drag out.

SPEAKER_01

It is. It is. I I agree with you there too. I think Wingate wins. I think it could be a one or two goal game again. Not again. It wasn't when they played him in the regular season, but I think uh Wingate's gonna pull this one out. I think it's gonna be Wingate and Lenore Ryan in the championship on the 30th.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And I think Wingate goes away with the championship with the tournament. I just think I just think there's too many guys to cover on offense. They just have too many guys that can shoot the rock, man. And it's like you gotta pick your poison. And like we said tonight earlier in the podcast that Wingate's defense is although young, they have a nice balance between veterans and young. You know, their short sticky middies are older and Capone is a senior. But these the the the polls, they're all sophomores, man. They're all like sophomores. They and they don't play like sophomores, especially if you saw them play against you and I mean they made some bad decisions early in the game, but they figured it out. And I just think uh wingate's a tough team, Kev. They're just uh they're deep, they're fast. They have Willie Greco and Danny Riley and and and a myriad of other players that can put two, three, four goals in their butt in the biscuit in the basket.

SPEAKER_01

So so I I like Wingate. I think Wingate Lenore Ryan is a very tough matchup player. Lenore Ryan's got a lot of scores, too. A lot of scores. They have got a lot. I will tell you Mount. Yeah. Bryce Reese.

SPEAKER_02

Now, who are they gonna put in goal? Are they gonna have um Pensa Benny or Noah Johnson? Not Noah Johnson. Oh, who's the other goalie's name? Oh, why did I say Noah Johnson? Because that's that was their goalie last year. Yeah, so I wonder who they're gonna put in because Pensa Benny's been playing well.

SPEAKER_01

I I guess we need to see, you know, watch who they put in when they play Newberry, first off. That would be probably telling. Yeah, so the other goalie, I can't believe forgot this. He was the Colorado Mesa transfer Nolan Hoffman.

SPEAKER_02

Nolan Hoffman. I I knew it was a Noah, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

Two really good goalies. Now, Capone has been playing lights out, like you said.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I don't know, man. I just think Wingate, they're the number two team in the country, and they're number two for a reason. They beat three top ten teams, Lenore Ryan included, at Lenore Ryan. So now they get them in a neutral field.

SPEAKER_01

I think I agree, I think Wingate takes it. If you look at the way Wingate has played against every uh top ten team minus Mercyhurst. And that was the second game of the season. Yeah, they've taken care of business, and there's no reason to think they're not going to in the in the tournament. So I give the nod to to Wingate as well. Okay, we've got one more Danny to talk about for games to watch, really tournament to watch, and that's Peach Belt. I love this.

SPEAKER_02

This is my this might be my favorite conference, Kevin. I don't know what it is, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so here we go. On April 28th is the quarterfinals. It's Alabama Huntsville number four against Young Harris, and then Monte Valo against shorter, number three and number six. Young Harris is uh is number five seed. So I think it's pretty easy. It's gonna be Alabama Huntsville and Monte Valo coming out of those. And with that, do you agree with me on that? Do do we have any yeah? Okay, so now April 30th of the semifinals. It'll be Lander against Alabama Huntsville and Flagler against Montevalo.

SPEAKER_02

I say Flagler beats Montevallo. They're on a roll, Flagler. They're just they're on a high. They're on a high.

SPEAKER_01

They're playing, you know, pretty much. They lost to lander and then they beat Alabama Huntsville overtime, though. Overtime. They beat Monte Valo, I think, in the regular season, right? I think so. But I thought Flagler was gonna beat Lander. So I have to stick with with Flagler again this year, just to keep things uh spicy. Although I that's gonna be a good game. I would not I would not doubt that it's a one-goal game. And then Lander, Alabama, Huntsville, I think it's Lander.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you're gonna have to give the edge to Lander. You know, a little stronger, deep. There they can play, some veterans on that squad.

SPEAKER_01

And uh I I agree with you. I think Lander takes that game. Now, the championship is a week later on May 6th, so we can actually hold off if we want on who wins because we can wait to see actually who wins this the semifinals and then talk about it. That sounds good. That sounds good.

Players' Spotlight

SPEAKER_01

You know what time it is, Danny. It's time for the player spotlight. My favorite part, Kev. My favorite part. You got it, you got it. We are switching it up a little and taking a little out of our Frostburg interview playbook. You know, we've talked with players who are with a brand new program, right, Danny. It's our first year, they're starting kind of looking at being the foundation, just getting it going, first year, second year. Today we're bringing on three players who have been with the program really since its infancy, maybe not the first couple years, but really literally since it started, and they are the ones that built that foundation. So I thought it'd be really cool to bring them on and see, you know, what the those players we've already talked to, like resec, you know, several of the others, what they what they are really bringing to the table because these guys are what did it. Not only that, Danny, let me also point out that as they've built this foundation, they've helped their team to a 6-0 record in conference, which means them on top, which is so awesome to see. So let's welcome them in. Mike Ventreska, Dan Burnham, and Vince Junta of the Georgian Court Lions. Hey guys, how's it going?

SPEAKER_04

How are you doing? Thanks for having us on.

SPEAKER_02

Georgian Court boys are balling out. You're at top of the conference. How does that feel? Vince, we'll start with you.

SPEAKER_04

It feels good, you know. I mean, we had that tough out-of-conference schedule that got us ready for it, I think. And guys are coming around, and it seems like we're all clicking right as conference plays rolled around. So definitely.

SPEAKER_02

You know, Coach Hover every year puts hard schedules on you guys. What do you think about that, Dan? The hard schedule.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, he puts us in the best uh the best case to succeed. You know, we tell him every year we want to, you know, be the best. And to be the best, you got to beat the best. So he gives us those opportunities, and I really do think it gets us ready for a conference play every year.

SPEAKER_02

And Mike, what do you feel about that?

SPEAKER_06

Um, it's you know, it's great. We get to compete against those top 10, top 20 teams, and you know, that prepares us the best to play uh these in conference teams. And I think it's good for all the guys to go out there and see what that top level of competition looks like.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So let me ask you guys this, and uh we'll start with Dan. Dan, I talked about in the intro, right? You three are three of the founding fathers of the Georgian Court Lion lacrosse team. I that's the way I look at it. What has that been like? That as you three, you're part of that legacy. What has that been like over the past few years and seeing it build?

SPEAKER_05

Right. I mean, we we came in, and this program has only been around for I think three years before us. So when we came in as freshmen, we made up half the team, right? There's 22 of us uh coming in. And Coach Hogram, I mean, he does a great job recruiting. He he knows what he wants with this team and he has a plan set forward for us. So we just follow his plan and it's put got us to where we are now.

SPEAKER_01

So, Vince, talk to me about the culture that you guys have been able to build. I'm sure Coach has a lot to do with it, but how what position is now seniors or the senior folks, you know, redshirt seniors graduates that you put on this program over the last few years from culture standpoint?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, coming in as freshmen, like Danny said, it was like a big learning curve, obviously coming from high school to college. And it's just we had really good seniors at the time who kind of like, I would give them a little more credit as being the founding fathers because I know for us, we look after those guys like Brandon Rasler and Ryder Verdoni and guys like that who uh really like showed us what it meant to be good teammates and have the good culture. But for us, like it's just staying positive, like enjoying our time out on the field together, like being out there, um, putting in the extra work, weight room, conditioning, and just you know, taking care of each other and looking out for each other.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and Mike, how has it been for you? And now being at that the the top of the heap as a red shirt senior.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, um, what Vince was saying earlier about uh Brandon Rasler, he would uh shoot and just do extra work all the time. And I always found myself tagging along. And then after he left, I found like being that guy to always be out there, like having somebody to shoot with uh really helps the game get easier for you.

SPEAKER_01

So is that what you're trying to impart on on the the younger guys about putting in the extra time, the the extra effort to to get to that next level?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like there's always opportunities to put that work in, like you can find them throughout the day. And you know, just being out there shows other guys that you know they have to get their work into.

SPEAKER_01

That's awesome. Because if you look at what you guys have done on the field, it's pretty amazing. First of all, Mike, you have over a hundred goals for your career. So congrat first of all, congratulations. I think I did a shout out, shout out for it last podcast. But what is that like being able to you look back on it? Do you ever think that you were gonna be able to get that kind of success?

SPEAKER_06

Uh honestly, coming in freshman year, I didn't know if I was gonna get a lot of time, but um yeah, it was never uh a goal to reach that number, but I think the work on the field with my teammates just set me up very well for that. And knowing that it was in reach drove me, you know, a little bit harder to put in that work to reach that goal a little bit more.

SPEAKER_02

That's an amazing, that's an amazing accomplishment, it really is. And that, you know, just it's a testament to your team, the way the team plays and playing competitively and just playing the right kind of ball. That's that's the reward for that kind of stuff. Would you agree, Dan? Would you agree? Because you're putting up some big points that this year.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I was just about to I was just about to say that for Dan. If you look at his stats, he's not far behind. 95 goals, 74 assists. And here's the one I love even better. 121 ground balls, Danny. That's great. That's what I love. That jumps out at you, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The ground balls. That's you talk about what you just talked about. Now you and I are just talking, we're not even let these guys talk, but it talks about the team aspect, right, Dan? Wouldn't you wouldn't you agree?

SPEAKER_05

No, definitely. I mean, you come in and the first thing you learn is you got to learn your role in this team, right? And early on, you know, being that second-line midfield, there's a lot of times I took the wing too, is like, hey, you got to get that ground ball. And I just did my job, and you know, it worked out well for me.

SPEAKER_01

I tell you what, there's nothing better I like seeing than than guys scrapping from ground balls and getting them up. Seriously, it's one of my favorite things. I mean, I love good shots and everything, and my my son played offense, but I'd rather see him get a ground ball sometimes when he was playing and contribute that way to keeping on the offensive side of the ball than you know, uh, than anything. But Vince, I have to ask you, because I I found out about this when you got interviewed uh after you played Chestnut Hill, you hadn't played because of injuries for like two years. And then to watch you in that game, and you basically sealed the deal on that game, right? You had two goals at the end. They they were trying to press and come back, but you made two goals that just you know sealed that game. And if you look at this year's stats, you've racked up 30 goals and 20 assists. So, what's your journey been like? And how has this year felt to you being able to come back the way you have?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, it's been great. Um, it was a long journey, like COVID year hit, and even that whole COVID season, I was injured. It was I was playing, but I wasn't 100% at all. So I got that surgery, and the offseason coach told me, look, you've gotten four surgeries since you've been here. Like, if you don't want to play, just take some time off, whatever. So then this summer I played in uh war at the shore, and I was like, wow, like I've missed this. Like I haven't played since 2019, and I just felt good again, felt like all the PT and rehab I put in like made me to like believe that I would be able to play again. And so I reached out to coach and he gave me a spot, another shot, which was really nice of him. But um, yeah, and it felt good beating chestnut was cool. But if Burkhart doesn't make that one-on-one save when it's 7-5, so gives him some credit for that.

SPEAKER_01

That was a crazy save. That was really, really good man.

SPEAKER_02

Good man for shouting out your teammate there, man. That's a good man right there. That's a good job.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so uh, how excited are you guys about uh the conference tournament coming up? You've got a few uh regular season games left. Are you just more uh focused in on those before you get to the conference tournament?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I think that so far we focused on every game in front of us and you know, not worrying about who comes after. And I think that's helped us, you know, get that uh undefeated record so far. So I think we're just focusing on the next one, and then after that, you know, we can look forward.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think Coach will be happy with that answer that you just gave, without a doubt, Mike. Um, so what's let me ask each one of you, uh, what's next for each of you? Are you are you have you finished your eligibility? Do you have any time left? Are you going on and if going on, what are you looking to do after you get out and graduate? So uh you want Danny first? Yeah, yeah, go ahead, Danny. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Uh I mean, I'm done with my eligibility after this year. I'm looking, you know, I'm a Long Island guy, so I'm looking to work in Manhattan and finance.

SPEAKER_01

Awesome, awesome, Vince.

SPEAKER_04

So this is actually my first year of eligibility I'm using. So I have three more years left, but it's it's pretty doubtful that I'll keep playing. Um I think after this I'm gonna go work. I got a family business I'll work at and work my way up and hopefully uh take it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's awesome. That's awesome. But I'll tell you what, what a season to end end your career with, right? Coming back like that. That's awesome, Mike. How about you?

SPEAKER_06

Um, after I finish up, probably just going home, uh finding a job and uh teaching. I want to be a history teacher, so all right.

SPEAKER_01

He's already he's already smarter than us, Danny. We can't have him ask us any questions. Well, luckily we get to ask the questions.

SPEAKER_02

History was my favorite subject. I loved history, that's a good subject.

SPEAKER_01

But talk, we get to test uh the history teacher's uh prowess with the other two in the firing round, Danny.

SPEAKER_02

Hold on. Well, we've got some gun battle going on. All right, tonight on In the Crease podcast, we have the three studs from Georgian Court. We got Danny Burnham, Vincent Junta, and my friend Tresca. These guys have just been balling out for the Lions at Georgian Court this year. They're still at top of the SA uh C A C C and they're getting ready to kick some butt this week. Uh while they got one more game, and then they start their tournament. So here they are on the firing round. We'll start with you, Dan. Mom's best meal.

SPEAKER_05

Ah, mom's best meal. It's definitely chicken parm. Chicken parm. What about you, Vince?

SPEAKER_04

I was gonna go chicken parm, but since he said it, I'm gonna say her mac and cheese.

SPEAKER_02

Mom makes some good mac and cheese, huh? What what about you, Mike?

SPEAKER_06

Lasagna.

SPEAKER_02

She's got the yeah, but Ventresco, you have to make a lasagna for sure, for sure. Okay, Danny, PlayStation or Xbox?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, Xbox all day.

SPEAKER_02

Vincent. I'm Xbox also. And Mike?

SPEAKER_01

Xbox across the board. That's a team. That's a team game right there.

SPEAKER_02

Now, what game, what games do you play? Like, what do you play, Dan? What's your favorite game?

SPEAKER_05

I mostly play like sports games. So, you know, you got Madden, Chell, 2K.

SPEAKER_02

All right, all right. What about you, Vin?

SPEAKER_04

I play pretty I only play like PGA tour, um Dell, and 2K.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, what about you, Mike?

SPEAKER_06

I'm I'm all over the place. I'll play anything. Uh I like Call of Duty though, that's probably my favorite.

SPEAKER_02

All right, all right, good next tour, man. Yeah, next question, Dan. Runs or lifts?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, runs definitely. I'm a conditioning guy.

SPEAKER_02

What about you, Vince?

SPEAKER_05

I'd definitely say lifts.

SPEAKER_02

He runs enough at practice. Why do you what about you, Mike?

SPEAKER_06

I enjoy the gym. Yeah, lifts.

SPEAKER_02

All right, cool. Next one, Danny Boyd, favorite TV show.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, right now I've been watching a lot of Survivor.

SPEAKER_02

All right, that's a new one. That's a lot of young guys.

SPEAKER_01

It's a new one, but it's a it's a classic show now. I can't believe I'm saying that about that show, but it's been around for a long time.

SPEAKER_02

What about you, Vince? What's your favorite TV show? Um, that was a tough one.

SPEAKER_04

All time. I'd probably maybe like breaking bad's a good one.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, and Mike, Game of Thrones. Oh, there's a good one. Okay, Dan. Favorite cartoon when you were a kid.

SPEAKER_05

There's a lot. I mean, I'm gonna have to go Vinny some furb.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, there's a lot of Vinny some furb. Good one, good one.

SPEAKER_04

What about you, Vince? You guys are gonna hate it, but I'd be lying if I said anything else. It's SpongeBob. There we go.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, of course, and Mike?

SPEAKER_06

Uh, codename Kid Next Door.

SPEAKER_02

Kid Next Door. All right, I don't know that one. I don't know that one.

SPEAKER_06

I'm not the one in the tree house.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, the Long Island kid, Dan. What's your favorite professional football team?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, Giants.

SPEAKER_02

The Giants. Who's your favorite player?

SPEAKER_05

My favorite player is actually Jalen Ramsey.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, good. Okay. What about you, Vince? Who's your favorite football team? I'm Eagles.

SPEAKER_04

Go bird.

SPEAKER_02

Eagles, the Jersey boy, right? Yeah. And who's your favorite player?

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go with uh Jason Kelsey.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, good one. That's a good pick. He's a really good player. What about you, Mike? What's your favorite football team?

SPEAKER_06

Bill's fan.

SPEAKER_02

Bill's fan. I love it. Since you were since you were a little kid, right? Not like in the last two years.

SPEAKER_06

No, no, no.

SPEAKER_02

And who's your favorite player?

SPEAKER_06

Josh Allen.

SPEAKER_02

Josh Allen, all right. Okay. Dan, what's the favorite kind of music that you like to listen to?

SPEAKER_05

Favorite kind of music? I'm gonna have to go hip hop.

SPEAKER_02

Hip hop. What was the last song you listened to?

SPEAKER_05

Just on my way here, I was listening to uh congratulations by Post Malone.

SPEAKER_02

All right. What about you, Vince? What's your favorite kind of music? You look like a rock and roll kid to me, man.

SPEAKER_04

I do like rock, I listen to everything.

SPEAKER_02

Um look like a bass player, like you play baby.

SPEAKER_04

But yeah, uh we could go with we could go with some rock for my favorite. I don't I don't discriminate. Okay, and what was the what was the last song you listened to? I'm not even sure. I would probably say it was a Morgan Wallen song.

SPEAKER_02

All right, and Mike, same question for you. What's your favorite kind of music?

SPEAKER_06

Um, I've been on a country scent recently, so I'd have to say country right now.

SPEAKER_02

All right, and what was the last song you listened to?

SPEAKER_06

Uh everything I love by Morgan Wallen.

SPEAKER_02

All right, here you go. All right, Dan. If you could play a musical instrument, what would it be and why?

SPEAKER_05

Well, I did do band in high school, and I I played the saxophone actually.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's a cool instrument. Yeah. What about you, Vince?

SPEAKER_04

If I could learn a new, I'd say the drums.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, man. I dig that. What about you, Mike?

SPEAKER_06

Uh, it'd probably be the flute. The flute? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. I love it. Now, the second quite part of that question is why?

SPEAKER_06

Oh, flute solos, like a couple of songs I've heard have good flute solos in them.

SPEAKER_01

So you know you know, he's going back to the Jethro Tull days. I was just gonna ask, have you ever heard of Jethro Tull?

SPEAKER_06

Yes, I actually listened to my god earlier in that flute.

SPEAKER_01

Oh wow, that is that is I love listening to Jethro Tull in the flute solos, without a doubt. I'm impressed right now.

SPEAKER_02

That's that's pretty impressive, young fella. Okay, Dan. What's your favorite? What's been your favorite class at Georgian Court?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, my favorite class. Actually, I just took it. Uh, strategic management. It's the capstone class in the MBA course. Uh, it gives real life scenarios where you're in like a management role and you gotta figure out either what's wrong with the organization or you know how you can improve it.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting. Interesting. And who's been your favorite professor there so far?

SPEAKER_05

My favorite professor, probably Dr. Elmoir.

SPEAKER_02

And why? Why?

SPEAKER_05

Uh, she's I mean, she's always there if you need any help. You know, she's she's the professor that you go to outside of class that you can ask anything, and she's there for you.

SPEAKER_02

That's cool. That's good. And Vince, what's been your favorite class since you've been at Georgia Court?

SPEAKER_04

I'd probably say like my exercise physiology lab, just because we do a lot of cool like body tests and like you measure body fat and VO2 max and like a bunch of different stuff that was pretty interesting to me.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, pretty cool. And who's been your favorite professor there?

SPEAKER_04

I'd say Dr. Chen.

SPEAKER_02

And what and why?

SPEAKER_04

Um, I mean, because we've had a pretty close relationship. Like uh, while I was off the team, we traveled to San Diego to compete in like an exercise science bowl. And so he took us all around San Diego, and he's just a really, really cool guy.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting. And what about you, Mike? What's your been your favorite class since you've been there?

SPEAKER_06

I took a class about uh the Vietnam War in America, and I thought that was really cool because uh just gave me a lot more information about things that like happened and like how things actually went down and how long we were really there for. So it was really yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And who's been your favorite professor at Georgian court?

SPEAKER_06

Um, Dr. Capucci. He uh the um flexible due dates that uh he moves forward very often, so helps me out a lot.

SPEAKER_01

All right, we won't let mom hear that part. We gotta let mom hear, you know. He's he's just an honest man, that's all we're gonna say.

SPEAKER_02

That's it, that's it. Hey Dan, who's the funniest guy on the team?

SPEAKER_05

Funniest guy on the team. Uh, I'm gonna have to go this guy right here, Vince.

SPEAKER_02

Oh would you agree with that, Mike? Who do you think's the funniest guy on the team?

SPEAKER_06

Vince is pretty funny, but uh, we have a couple guys that that I think are are up there when it comes to that. Um one guy, he's not eligible right now, but on Logan Lupo, he likes to get loud for us, and uh it's always it always gets the team laughing and fired up.

SPEAKER_02

So uh that's great. That's great. The boys getting some shout-outs. Okay, Mike, let me ask you this who's the most athletic guy on the team?

SPEAKER_06

Um, I'd have to say Kyle Harms because when we race, he's always ahead of me.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, hey Vince, who's the one guy on the team you'd never let date your sister?

SPEAKER_04

Uh Nick Mann.

SPEAKER_02

All right, the other guys are laughing, so that's gotta be there's gotta be something good behind there. That's a good one. Nick gets a shout out, and Dan, let me ask you this: what's been your best lacrosse memory since you've been at Georgian Corps?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, my best lacrosse memory's gotta be freshman year. We went down to Florida. Um, we had a nice beach trip there. I mean, it was just a great time hanging with the guys. I mean, we got a house too, so you know, you were up late, you know, going in the pool, and it was just getting away from this cold weather altogether.

SPEAKER_02

That sounds that sounds phenomenal. And uh, Vince, what's been your best memory, lacrosse memory at Georgian Court?

SPEAKER_04

I would definitely say coming back this year and just being able to stay healthy so far and like bond with the team again because I haven't been able to get through a full season yet. So it's felt good to even play more than like five or six games. So just being back out there.

SPEAKER_02

Good man, good man. I like that answer. And Mike, what's been your best lacrosse memory at Georgian Court?

SPEAKER_06

Uh, there's a lot of good ones, but I think I'd have to go with Dan of the trip down to Florida because uh we got to play St. Leo after their national champion runner up, and I thought that was really cool.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, sounds awesome! All right, so I'm gonna let one of you three pick this next one to do for me. Give us your best impression of Coach Hover. Who can give me who can give me a good impression of Coach Hover?

SPEAKER_04

I think Dan has a really good impression.

SPEAKER_02

That's good. Dan, you've been put on the spot, daily boy.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, right. Um, I'd say for Coach Hover, I mean something I think he says a lot is you know, you do little things right, you'll like them, and you'll be successful. So it's some you know, the little things.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. I love it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, let's get a warn. Guys, you've been great on the firing round tonight. We really appreciate it. What a great job you guys have been. What a bunch of good teammates you guys are. You look like you like, you look like you like each other just by hanging out. And uh, you guys have had a great season at 10 and 5. Got one more, then you're gonna start uh tournament play. Uh, give Coach Hober our best. We love that guy, he's a madman. I love it. And um, we wish you the best of luck coming up, and thank you so much for coming on the show.

SPEAKER_05

Uh yeah, yeah.

Shout Outs

SPEAKER_01

What a trio of players for Georgian Court, huh?

SPEAKER_02

What a bunch of good guys they were. They were funny guys, you could tell they liked each other, they were just cool and chill. I think they had a good time being on the show. I think they were a little surprised that they were ass, to be honest with you. Like, hey, why they want us?

SPEAKER_01

I also like, yeah, well, what no, so why, Danny? I don't mean to cut you off.

SPEAKER_02

Because they're balling out on a good team, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. I also like the fact that they politely corrected me when I said, you know, they were kind of uh the founding fathers. They're like, wait a minute, there's guys that were there for two or three years before us, and they gave them they gave them props. Yeah, they gave them props. I thought that was really cool. They gave other players props, they're goalie other times. It's great to see that we've seen that time and time again with the players that come on. Really good players that could just say how great they are, they always defer to their team, yeah. And that's what makes them great players because they're great teammates at the same time.

SPEAKER_02

I agree. They were a bunch of good kids, and I wish them good luck, man. They're gonna do good in the conference tournament. And these guys, this is their swan song. Yeah. So last couple of games of the career. So go out and go get them, boys. Go get them.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. Okay, now to end the show. I've got a few shout-outs. I hear you, I know you have one, so let me start off. And once again, we have a few career milestones that hit out there this past week. First of all, shout out to Chris Valentine of Southern New Hampshire University, the penman. 100 career goals for Chris. And a shout out to Mason Cheney of the Barton Bulldogs. He reached 200 career points this past week.

SPEAKER_02

That's amazing. 200 career points, good for him.

SPEAKER_01

How about you, Danny? You got any shout-outs?

SPEAKER_02

I got one shout-out, Kev. Usually I have about a list myself, but again, it's been a long week, a long weekend, and I can see the inside of my eyelids right now. But hey, I have to give a shout-out. I I don't talk about this kid very much, but he's one of the best players in all of Division II. Um, he just continues to do amazing things on the field. He can almost be unstoppable. And that's uh All-American attackman Danny Riley from the Wingate Bulldogs with six goals and one assist against one of the best teams in the country. So congrats, Danny.

SPEAKER_01

You great, great week and great game. I agree with that. We do talk about him a lot. We haven't gone into depth on him this year at all. We've just talked about his accolades because he's always there and he he deserves it. Yes, he does. He deserves it. I've got two more shout-outs. One I should have hit last week. Shout out to Grant Hansen with Rollins. He had the single goal record for their team in one game against St. Leo. Eight goals, Danny. Eight goals.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and his brother's the announce, one of the announcers, the chilling announcers. So hey, good job, Grant. Way to way to put the biscuit in the basket, son. Good job. Good for you.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, my last one goes really to that baseball score. So shout out to the Meryville goalie, Steven DeSantis. He had an 81 point. There's the bell. Is that for the quality of the cross we were talking about before?

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well, so shout out to Maryville goalie, Steven DeSantis. He had an 81.8% save percentage against Lewis. Nine saves, two goals allowed. Now his defense helped him out a lot, obviously, when you've got only that many shots coming your way. Right. But he also made all the saves, too. So big shout out to Steven DeSantis.

SPEAKER_02

Good job, Steven. Way to go, kid.

SPEAKER_01

Good job. And with that, Danny, that's all the shout outs I had. I think you're done. So I think with that. Let me get a horn. That's a wrap.

SPEAKER_03

That's about good.
