As well you should, my friend. As well as you should. And now you know, Danny, we are going old school with this episode this week. It's just you and me talking the final four games. We don't have a coach's spotlight, and we don't have a player spotlight because we're trying to get the two teams in the finals on for next episode as part of that last episode going before the game, talk about the game, and then try to get the winning team afterwards on. We're still working that right now, so everyone needs to stay tuned. And who knows, maybe if you're there at the game, you'll see Danny and us on Sunday.

Yeah. And first of all, I like going old school every once in a while. I like it like that when you and I get to banter back and forth. But you know what? I love I love when the coaches and I love the player spotlights. But you know what? It's been a great season. We've had a lot of coaches come on, we've had some great players come on. But you know what? There's some important stuff coming up. So you know what?

We'll we'll we'll get them hopefully this weekend if we can. Hopefully, they've got tight schedules. We just got to try to work it out. That's what we're trying to do. So, you ready to talk about the final four games? Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Let's just start off and just say these were two totally different games. 100%. Yep. But let's get into it. Let's start in the south with Tampa versus Limestone. I've got this game, I route down one word for this game. Domination. It's a good word. My my word was wow. Yeah, I did not see that coming at all. We talked about this. I thought this was a pick'em game. I thought it was going to be close.

I did not expect that, Kevin. It was complete domination.

It was. And what's funny is so Tampa wins 19-8. But the limestone goalie, William Baxter, in the first quarter, I really didn't think he was playing that bad. Despite going down 6-0. I mean, I really thought he made some good saves, but Tampa controlled the possession so much by causing turnovers and defending their goal. And always Blake Ulmer is a difference maker in Cage. It was 4-0 before Limestone had a shot.

They had two goals in eight seconds. Yeah, two goals in eight seconds, Tampa. Limestone only had ready for this three shots in the entire first half. Three shots.

First quarter. First quarter. First quarter, right? They they even it out in the second, but three shots. I I saw that stat and I was watching it. I didn't notice it from the stat. I noticed it from Tampa's defense shutting them down so much and and then controlling possession. But they also dominated the face-offs. It was seven zip at the end of the day. Before they scored before Limestone scored, which is seven minutes left in the first in the first half.

Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Because Limestone's the second most prolific scoring offense in the country have averaging like 18-19 goals a game. Right. They've been smoking everybody.

Yeah, and even funnier was that the Saints score, seven minutes left to go in the second quarter, and you think, okay, all right, it's 6-1. Spartans come right back off a face-off win, and they score. That is how the game went.

Yeah. Domination. They just dominated them. How about Matt Bidell on defense, huh?

Yeah, so his stats four ground balls, three cost turnovers, one assist, and one goal. Remarkable. What a game. Unbelievable. It's 11 to 1 at half. And I'm thinking, all right, well, can Limestone come back in the second? Can they come back in the second half? No. Tampa goes on another 6-1 run.

It was amazing. It was remarkable. I was in shock. Limestone looked lost at one point.

They kind of got it together a little bit in the fourth quarter. They did. They outscored them six to two in that quarter and they played better. I'll tell you, it looked to me, Danny, that Tampa was just slicing through the Saints D. Either A weren't going to slide or B, their slides were late. And they they would dodge and get open shots.

Yeah, they were just they were just better, a better team. Tampa's a very good team, Kevin. They're very good.

I'll tell you what, and once again, we've talked about this with Tampa before. When they get multiple scores going, they had nine different scores again. This game nine different ones. When they do that, they roll, and they roll by a big margin, usually. If you go back to those other games where they had seven, eight, nine different scores.

They're so deep. They're so deep. And you know, even their twos and and their threes come in, and there's no letdown, there's no let up, there's no difference in quality of play. Right. Exactly. Between the ones and the threes, it's amazing. They just a little bit like a Delphi. They got the Chinese army there. They just keep coming and coming and coming and coming and coming. And they've just got fresh legs for days, too, Tampa. But that defense, man, that Tampa defense was legit, Kev, legit.

I'll tell you what, that made all the difference in the first half. And they didn't slow down in the second half. I'm just saying, if you look at what the score was and and the shots and possession, limestone had a little more possession in the in the second half, obviously in the fourth quarter when they they got most of their goals. But you know, Blake Homer again, 14 saves. And he had some saves that were critical at critical times.

Kids are ridiculous. Kid kids amazing. And he only saw 21 shots. He only saw 21 shots, and then he saved 14 of them. And he saves all the big shots, the big ones, you know. Blake is really, really good, Kevin. Yeah. He might be he might be the best in the country. I I think he is. I think he's the best goalie in the country right now.

I watched Tampa play a lot this year, you know, and and and he's he stood out. He stood out. Yeah. You know, he's on a great team, he stood out. That's that's that's pretty special.

Yeah, exactly. So let's move on to the other game. Mercy versus Lemoyne. This Danny was an instant classic. 12-11 double overtime.

I attended the game, Kevin. I went up to the game. Yeah, took a ride up to took a ride up to SUNY purchase Sunday.

So you were in the standing room only crowd.

Yeah, it was packed. It was packed. And a lot of mercy people, a lot of lums, a lot of college kids there. Um, there was professors there. They were watching the game, and I had two professors right next to me, and they were asking me questions all game about the game and the rules and why did they get the ball back? And I was like explaining to them. But I really that's great. I had a great afternoon, Kevin. It was a beautiful day, a little hot though. It was up in the 90s, and we were not used to that. It was like yeah, 60 a week ago, yeah, and it went to like 90. So that turf was a little hot, it was a little sticky out there, but that was one of the better games I've seen with my own eyes in a long, long time. It had everything a championship game should have. Really, really both teams, Kevin. Both teams played very well.

Yeah, oh yeah. And it wasn't a slow pace, no, not at all. They were passing the ball, both teams. It was just great passing, such great passing that all of a sudden the guy would be open on the backside and free and score. But it wasn't just Lemoyne doing it, it was Mercy doing it, and it was at different times. This is how crazy tight this was. If you look at the scoring, even going to double overtime, 3-3 after one, five, four at half, mercy's up by one, nine-eight, Lemoyne is up after three. I mean, that's a tie 11-11 at the end of the game. No one had more than a one goal lead the whole damn game. It was goal mercy, goal moine, goal mercy, goal moine.

Goal Moyne, goal mercy. Yep, goal mercy, goal. I know, goal moine, goal mercy. There must have been 18 different lead changes in 90 different ties. I swear to God, it was a great game. It was crazy. But one thing that really was cool that I was kind of digging about the game, there were two different styles of contrast of play. Okay. Mercy is very fast, and they did really well on face-offs, and they're really fast. And there were times that they were beating their one-on-one matchups, they were beating some of them short sticky D Mittis up top. They were able to get shots off and beat their man. They played on a faster pace, a little bit faster than Lemoyne. Lemoyne is Lemoine, methodical bang, pass, pass. Right. Everybody gets a touch. Everybody gets a touch. They just constantly move. They're moving without the ball. It's a thing of beauty to watch LeMont. Yeah, it really, really is because they're so well coached. And the things that they do on the field, they don't make many mistakes. And that's another thing about this game. There wasn't a lot of mistakes. I mean, each team had about what, 13, 14 turnovers. But you know, you got right around that.

Mercy had 16 and Lemoyne had 14.

You're gonna expect, you know, there's great defensive players. You got Gerdville on one side, you got Arnold on the other side. You know, you got all American defenders on both on both squads. Right. So you they're they're gonna make plays. They're going to make plays, and they did. But the contrast in styles was very interesting to me. Lemoyne's methodical, everybody gets a touch, where Mercy was like, bang, let's get, you know, they were getting shots in every different type of direction. It was a really, really, really well-played game by both teams.

It it was, and there was great goalie play by both 100.

Omano made some saves at the end. Oh my god. Saipic hit a pipe in the first overtime for Lemoyne, and then Amano made two great saves.

Both Delia and Omano made two saves in that first overtime. It was just Umano did it in like the last minute of that overtime.

And you know, it was it was it was unbelievable. They went it went back and forth and back and forth, and you know, again, nine-eight at half, and then went back and forth, and then with 16 seconds left, you know, with 16 seconds left, Gibbons scored on an assisted play by Brady Kearnan and tied it up. You should the place erupted, Kevin. The place erupted.

I couldn't hear it, Danny, because I was actually in the San Diego airport. I land in San Diego, the third quarter had just started. I plop myself in a seat, open up my my tablet, and I start watching the game. And I'm watching it, and I'm watching it with 16 seconds left when Gibbon scores. I go nuts. And there's people in the airport being like, Who is this dude? What is this going, bro?

But it was an exciting game. Oh, yeah. It was just, and there was like a again in the first in the first overtime, Sypic hit a pipe. I was like, Oh, oh my god, this is just amazing, amazing. And and and uh Mercy had a chance to come down. They had a and Omano made a doorstep stop. Doorstep. I mean, he just stopped them. I I mean the sticks, the two sticks between the player and the and the goalie was maybe three feet apart. Yeah, yeah, it was a doorstep stop, and and Amano was great in goal. Frank Delia is a great goalie, too. And he made some really big saves in overtime because of both overtimes, Mercy won the face-offs and got to call a timeout and get that play.

And Mercy had it for three minutes straight, practically, yeah, in that first overtime. So you think about that defense getting tired, Delia having to be locked in for three minutes stopping shots. Yeah, it was just amazing to watch. I thought I thought that's though they actually bring it down to like one second. Mercy does, shoots Frank Delia, it goes off his stick or whatever, and so the clock resets.

And now you're thinking, okay, this is it.

That's right. That's right. It actually bounced, it bounced in front of him, hit his stick and the pipe. You heard ding, you could hear a little dink, and and they got the 60. I got and you're like you said, I thought, okay, that's it. Yeah, you know, McCreary, someone's gonna step up and and bang one in. But you know, Mr. Omano in goal, he really he was stellar in the overtime.

And then the the winning score by Dominic Scorcha with a feed by Andrew Calabria. Just it was a great feed. He just saw him. He was open right on right on that net.

I don't know how he saw him, and I don't know how he got that pass in there.

Traffic. I uh it was a sick pass. I don't know how we saw it. I think if that were me, I don't know if I'd make that pass. You know what I'm saying? But he saw it, he made it, and and and Scorsha was able to put the biscuit in the basket and and and and give Mercy the win.

It was one hell of a game. And and I don't know if you knew this, but they they said this on during the broadcast that no mercy team, not just the lacrosse team, no mercy team has ever gone to a national championship. Wow. Well, that's changed now. It has Coach Levine, and that's that's what's cool about that. Yeah. I heard that, I thought that is really cool.

And you know what? Mercy's a small, tiny college, Kevin. It's tiny, but it felt like half half the people were there. I mean, and like I said, professors and teachers and everybody was keen to watch that game. And it was just it was an exciting atmosphere, it was just electric. And and man, and you know, when when Scorship put that put the game winner in, it was it was really cool to see. Yeah, it was really cool to see to watch to watch Mercy just just elate, just elated, and just uh, you have to see the smiles. I tried to get Coach Levine's attention, but he was he had a smile from here to Kansas, Kevin. He was really happy guy. He he was alumni with you know, giving him high fives and stuff, and it was a really cool game to be at. And I'm really happy I took the time to go up there and just spend the afternoon. Like I said, it was a little sticky, it was a little hot, but well worth it. Yeah, you know, both teams are so good. And we said last week in the podcast, I said I gave the edge to Lemoyne because they had beaten him once. Yeah, but I also said that Mercy's been on a mission, they've been on a mission all year, and they've been finding ways to close out games, even in the games that they probably sh should have won by more. You know, they kind of let teams in, you know, they let teams hang around a little bit, but at the end of the game, they always won. They found a way to win. And and this game, I'm telling you, too, it was a really sharp game. Like there wasn't a lot of mistakes, it wasn't a lot of sloppy play, there wasn't very much at all.

It was a really well played game by both teams, both teams, and mercy saves their biggest and best closeout. Yeah, but by far, that's the best closeout of the program's history.

Yeah, yeah, you know. So how cool is it that Tampa's going to, even though Tampa's been, you know, amazingly great, never been to the finals, never been to the championship game, and neither has Mercy.

Mercy. So we are let's talk about that that final matchup. That is great, just because both whoever wins, we have a new champion, two new teams there. That is really cool to see. I think it's great for D2 as well.

So it's phenomenal for D2, it's phenomenal for D2. How many years have we seen Adelphi? How many teams, how many years have we seen Lemoyne?

You know, and limestone and limestone and Merrimack the last few years before they got D1.

Right, right. It was it's been the same four or five teams, really, past 10 years or so. So now I just think it's great that both teams got in. You know, I I just like Tampa's been a great team to watch all year, and Mercy's been a really fun team to watch all year. They both have all Americans on both sides of the field, they're both stacked, you know.

But Tampa So it's funny, Danny. You said that Mercy has been on a mission. You've said this throughout this season. It seemed to me that they said, we are on a mission.

That was a statement game. If I ever saw one, I mean, I again, I I watched that game and I was in total shock. I was in shock. I was like, this is unbelievable. This is unbelievable. Limestone can't, they can't, they can't get anything together, right? This defense is smothering them, smothering. Yep. I mean, just pick a player, pick one. They all had great games, they've all all played on on Tampa balls out, like really fast and aggressive.

And if they play like that in the final, they're gonna be tough, man. I I think they can shut down Mercy too. I'm not sure it's gonna be that big of a deficit, but God, if they play that strong on defense, Mercy's got the offensive weapons, without a doubt, but so does Limestone.

Yeah, it's I'm not so sure that Mercy has the depth that they might need for this game, for this type of game, for this team, for this team. But you know what? Wouldn't surprise me to see Mercy play well and give Tampa a game. But the way I saw Tampa play limestone, limestone's the second highest scoring offense in the country, Kevin. They've been smoking everybody. Their only loss came to a one-goal overtime loss to Wingate and in the Crown Classic, which was a phenomenal game in itself. Yeah, and so you know what? I knew Limestone was going to be tough to beat in the South region. Uh just watching them play the IKEA. Coach Storier really did a phenomenal job this year as his first year uh as head coach of the Saints. He did he did a great job. You can't nothing less than really, really well done. And he he got it, he had his team ready every week. They performed at a high level every week, and they played some really, really good teams on their schedule and handled their business. Tampa made them look like a middle school team.

Yeah, so Mercy's gonna have to watch out. Now, who knows? Who knows what Mercy can. Can scheme up themselves to try to try to beat that.

You know what though? I think Mercy will relish being the underdog. Because they're gonna be the underdog here. Yeah. You know, they're gonna be the underdogs, but I think mercy relishes you know the fact that they're the underdog. Then there's not so it's just gotta go out and play. That's right. Don't you know, not they're not going out there not to lose. You understand? Different philosophy, different mentality, right? You know, so but Tampa, the way they're playing, the way Coach Clark has those boys playing, and you know, Andrew Q, the former Tampa player and PLL guy, you know, running the offense there. They're running like a pro offense. They look remarkable. They just was that was a dominating wire-to-wire win for Tampa over limestone.

He's a really good player, too. And uh from Limestone, really, really, really good player in Gavin Kesselring. He's a really, really good player. I like watching him play. Third team attack, Austin Assen from Belmont Abbey. Bailey Pringle from Rollins, Sam Lindahl from Rockhurst, and Harry Kukowski from Tampa, who had a really good game last week. Right. Um, honorable mention, Colin White from Tampa, Thomas Vason from Montevala, Zach Rosangoni from Florida Tech, Adam Vadovnik from Wingate University, Sean Nolan from Florida Southern, another really good player. Honorable mention, Luke McEnaney? What? Honorable mention. What? I don't know about that one, Kev. He's a much better player than honorable mention. So that's your South all regional teams. But we have two players at the top of that list. We have an offensive player of the year and a defensive player of the year. If you ask me, they both deserve this award. Offensive player of the year in the South Coastal, Willie Greco from Wingate University. He's unguardable, Kevin. He's unguardable. He's like Gretzky. Nobody gives a crap. But you know what? I love being the only boat in the bay and with us talking about D2. That's right. There's amazing lacrosse players in division two. And you just saw what you what I read and you read are some of the greatest lacrosse players that walk on the face of the earth. That's right. That's that's how good these kids are. Just because they're not in division one doesn't mean they don't belong there. Are you telling me that no coach would take a Justin Gurdville or a Matt Bidot? Come on. You know, what do you do? Fall through the cracks. Maybe they fell through the cracks, you know. Sometimes that happens, but they get to this school and they get their opportunity and they shine and they play at an elite level at the collegiate level.

Exactly. And and it's growing. It's growing. And just this week, a coach, Ryan Burke, was tapped as the head men's lacrosse coach at William Jewell College, which we which we talked about in our news during the season, that they're starting in 23-20 in the 23-24 season, and they're going to be in the GLBC. Now, Coach Burke, he played at St. Leo. He can then coach there for five years. He was a head coach at Spaulding University, followed by one year as a volunteer assistant at Bellerman. And the last two years, he's been assistant at Montevallo. Okay, good for him, man. So he's got a lot of good credentials to start a team at William Jewell College and bring it in the GLVC to D2.
